If the Suns trade Dudley and a 1st for Shumpert I will go on a rampage.

And I like Shumpert.

As I said earlier in the thread, obtaining Shumpert would be a part of the Suns future star program. Of course the Suns have Lance Blanks evaluating the talent. I do not trust Blanks to make the right decisions as evidenced by the cast below.

I'm sure that Shumpert represents the Suns future star program, e.g., Beasley, Johnson, Morris and Marshall. This cast is scary.

Please no to Shumpert. He's one of four knick players that plays defense, but that ain't saying much...

You can also see he gets away with a lot of contact being a Knick player. Also his fouls per game are up there and if we went to any other team than the Heat or Spurs he will get called for a lot more fouls.

Instead of throwing a 1st rd pick to the deal, I would rather just trade Morris or Marshall + Duds instead.

Per an article from Paul Coro (who covers the Suns) at azcentral dated 2-10-13 the Suns interest in Shumpert is real. The Suns concerns seem to center on Shumpert's left knee being healthy and their reluctance to part with a first round draft pick. See link below.

* Yahoo! first reported Saturday that the Suns have engaged in talks about acquiring Knicks guard Iman Shumpert, who they considered taking in the 2011 draft when they picked Markieff Morris at No. 13 and Shumpert went to the Knicks at No. 17.

That interest is real and so is the consideration of trading Jared Dudley in such a deal before the Feb. 21 deadline.

The Suns will be reluctant to part with any of their first-round picks and would need to know more about the health of Shumpert’s left knee, which put him from late April until mid-January due to an ACL tear. Shumpert also suffered from left knee tendinitis and a right knee sprain earlier last season, when he fulfilled the Suns’ projections of being a terrific perimeter defender. The Suns have invested greatly at point guard with the signing of Goran Dragic, arguably their best player, and drafting Kendall Marshall but could see Shumpert as an off-guard with his 6-foot-5, 220-pound size. Plus, Dragic has shown he also can play off the ball.

Shumpert, 22, has been a 39 percent career shooter but has made 12 of 28 3-pointers since returning this season in a reserve role.

Knicks fan here, trust me Shumpert is much better than Dudley. He would easily be a top scorer on your team. He's a playmaker

Knick fans have the most overinflated sense of value in their own players. Every young player that shows the even the slightest ability is then elevated to a potential star. Here are a few recent examples: Landry Fields, Timofey Mozgov, Jeremy Lin, Toney Douglas, Danilo Gallinari, and Wilson Chandler. As soon as they leave the Knicks, they're bums.

Thats pretty comical. He cant beat out JR Smith for playing time and Dudley is a lot better than JR Smith.

My personal favorite was Knicks fans who didn't want to trade Frye for KG.

Seriously.

I remember when Knick fans were debating if the Marbury/Crawford back court combo was not only the best in the league, but if it potentially was among the greatest of all time.

Giving ANY first rounders for Shump is unacceptable, however I would do this deal:

Dudley
J ONeal
PJ Tucker

For

Shumpert
KT
Copeland

That upgrades NYs bench big time which they need. It saves the Suns $2m and gives them a young bench guy who has a ceiling as a solid 6th man.

I know some here are in love with Tucker but he doesn't really have a place here, plus Copeland is a similar hustle player.

I'd say if any picks were involve in the deal I outlined they should be coming PHXs way but I doubt the Knicks have any to give, maybe a 2nd but those are nearly worthless unless you get 1 way in the future when the Knicks are bad again.

I never liked Fields Mozgov Lin or Douglas. Gallinari was good and still is good. But Chandler's a beast, easily the best defensive player in the league

I wouldn't trade Tucker straight up for Shumpert, I certainly wouldn't throw him into a trade like that. I'd consider Telfair and Dudley on our side but no picks and no Tucker. I just don't think you realize how valuable Tucker is. He is, IMO, right there with the best non-stars in the league. If we have an untradeable piece, it should be Tucker. If we trade him, it should be for an unprotected lottery pick and nothing less. He should make the all NBA defensive team this season if anyone is actually paying attention to us.

^^^^That's some BS right there if I've ever seen some, but then again this is a Suns forum so I should expect some Homerism

Lol, right, "homerism". JR "Brickhouse" Smith is better than Dudley, and so is Shumpert... but I am the homer.

Dig it.

1. Salaries have to match, Tucker's does, not sure other permutations would.

2 Well have to agree to disagree on Tucker. His only value to a tanking/rebuilding team is as a trade chip. I would've loved a guy like him on the 04 team but holding onto energy bench players because they hustle is no way to rebuild or get good.

Well said. After Grant Hill, Suns fans should realize the necessity of a player like him. He's not here because of age. Tucker is here and shouldn't be thought of lightly.

Thats fine, but then actually use him as a trade chip. The trade you put him in chucked in needlessly. I'd much rather have him either as a trade piece or for future seasons than a bum like Copeland (but I am sure our visiting Knick fan will inform us that Copeland is better than anyone on our roster and would average 20 a game on our team).

He is not, NOT, an energy bench guy. He is so much more than that. This guy is the only reason to watch the Suns right now. Find me a better defensive player than Tucker. I'm not sure there is one. I seriously believe he could take any of the top 5 teams and make them the best team in the league. You just don't give away a player like that. He's a better defender than Grant Hill was for us the past few years and that's saying something. Trade him if you must but only trade him for real value. Anything else is a crime.

No way in H. do I throw in PJ. I hate to give up Dudley but Shumpert is a better age for us and we can use the athleticism. Pending the doctor's and trainers assessment of the health issues, I'd make the trade.

You are not over the top - when PJ is motivated he's first rate. He's not always motivated but its hard to keep the motor revving when the team is going no place.
