Hopefully, if Payton fulfills his role of stepping in as lead Point Guard, tall as well, and becomes the facilitator and defender we need, his friendship with Warren will be motivation for him to want to stay with the Suns.
We'll pretty well be set at the 1 - 2 - 3 and, above all, let DBook return to his natural position (and calling as lead scorer) and, hopefully, be less prone to injury. Now we just need a solid Power Forward and a solid Center, each at least a few years into their careers and having shown progress. And a serviceable bench not made up of disappointments or past their prime.
Getting Payton was a key move for many reasons. Let's hope that McDonough has developed some above average GM skills to take us to the next step.
And that we have a management team more interested in letting it develop than relying on gimmicks, all of which have not worked.
