BTW, if you look at the JJ trade. Its now,

Joe Johnson for

Diaw
Atlanta's pick in the best draft in two decades
Cleveland's pick in the best draft in two decades

in the heat of the moment many were upset because we didn't do anything. But if you would have taken a poll two months ago on this board and asked the question "Which would you rather have"

Lakers pick in the 2006 draft
Cleveland's pick in the 2007 draft

the Cleveland pick would have won, overwhelmingly.

Selling the #27 is another matter.

and don't forget that they were able to get out from under Brian Grant's contract for this summer which will help them re-signed/sign free agents.

I really do think that Grant trade was justified, but trading #27 (Rodriguez for cash?) I think it's a mistake. Everybody is talking about, how #27 won't help Suns win the title next year, but the question is - how taking that pick would hurt those chanses ?! i think i wouldn't. In stead of trading it, suns were able to get a young point guard with a great passing skills and court vision. And in couple of years he could really help and eventually maybe even replaic Steve Nash. Nash is not getting younger and wothout him - this team is nothing more but a first round team.
This 27. pick isn't saving a lot of money - but it would have been a really nice investment in the future of the team !

I wanted them to keep Sergio also. The 27th pick makes a minimum of $800,000 so he'd be making a little more than the cheapest guys we could find to fill out the roster, but he also had potential to become pretty good in probably 2-3 yrs. There are only 2 guaranteed yrs for rookies now with yrs 3 & 4 being team options. If they were worried he wouldn't be able to get playing time then they could've sent him to the NBDL.

I guess the other side of the coin is how many PGs drafted at the end of the 1st rd or even in the 2nd round can come in and get minutes on a team that's been in the WCF the last 2 yrs. Most rookie PGs picked outside of the top 10 don't contribute at all or very much in their first 2 yrs. Look at all the PGs we've wanted the Suns to go after over the last couple of years and see how many of them are playing major roles in the league. Gilbert Arenas may be the only recent exception to this and he was picked #31 as a SG.

2005:
#21 Nate Robinson - had some decent games for NY
#22 Jarrett Jack
#32 Daniel Ewing
#38 Travis Denier
#41 Roko Ukic

2004: Some of these guys have at least had some impact, but nothing great yet
#24 Delonte West
#27 Sasha Vujacic
#28 Beno Udrih
#34 Lionel Chalmers
#37 Antonio Burks
#38 Royal Ivey
#39 Chris Duhon

2003:
#22 Zoran Plannic
#28 Leandro Barbosa
#38 Steve Blake
#40 Derek Zimmerman
#46 Sani Becerovic
#47 Mo Williams

2002:
#25 Frank Williams
#28 Dan Dickau
#30 Steve Logan
#31 Roger Mason
#36 Milos Vujanic
#38 Tito Maddux
#40 juan Carlos Navarro

There were more PGs in each of those years that were names I don't recognize at all that never made it into the league.

I think that D'antoni just didnt like Sergio. If you were able to catch the interview with Gambo and Ash he was pretty adament about the fact that Sergio can't shoot, and he had no interest in drafting him.

They must think that they can find someone better for the same money. I guess we'll see.

I also heard him say that Sergio couldn't play any defense. Really though, do you expect the guy to be Steve Nash when he's drafted? Steve Nash sure wasn't at a high level when he was drafted and it took years in the league before he became great and Nash still can't play much defense. Sergio has great ball handling, passing, court vision and unselfishness. He didn't have an NBA body, defense or shooting. His weaknesses were easier to improve qualities than trying to teach his strengths to others that lack them. It's hard to teach court vision.

I'm fine with what we did with the 21, but to give away the 27 for cash seemed desperate. We could have at least got a second rounder to take a flyer on someone, or at least stash a Euro in Europe.

Jarrett Jack, Chris Duhon, Steve Blake, and Mo Williams would all look pretty good in a Suns uniform right about now.

I could agree on Mo Williams and even Duhon, but Jack & Blake haven't done anything to impress me.

Blake shot 41% from three-point range last year--for Portland.

Jack, you'd have to see him in action to be impressed, I think. His numbers definitely don't stand out.

I'm with you on Duhon and Blake plus I'd add Dickau.
