Other than his age, Jeff Teague is an interesting option.

EDIT: He’s actually 2 years younger than Dragic.

He has a 19 mil player option for next year. Warren would have to go in a trade for Teague in order for the Suns to be a player in free agency next summer. Chandler could be part if they do not want to be a player. Ryno could be traded I guess.

Teague isn't a bad option. I could see a number of trade possibilities that would work, and still leave some cap flexibility next season. Let's hope this has legs and isn't just random speculation.

So will Dragic. Their contracts are nearly identical.
I didn't know Dragic had a player option.

In that case, then there is no reason for Minnesota to acquire Dragic unless they think he's a better fit with Towns.

You think Dragic will turn down $20 million to be a free agent next offseason? He won't get paid that much by anyone else.

The one reason I can see Minny favoring Dragic is that he is more of a shooter/scorer than Teague, and so would somewhat replace the loss of offense in trading Butler. There aren't a lot of good compensatory options for them in sending Butler to Miami, so getting Dragic and then moving Teague for something worthwhile is about as good as it gets... if Miami is who they are going to deal with.

Huh? Player options are pretty much extra years. Where did you get that I thought he would turn down his option??

I'm not sure he is, and if he is, it's only a marginal difference.

Over their entire careers, I'd say Teague has a slight edge. He's certainly a better playmaker than Dragic, which is one of the crucial things the Suns need.

I thought you meant that Minnesota wouldn't be interested because he could opt out, meaning they wanted to keep him for longer than a year rather than as a rental. That's why I mentioned Dragic not opting out.

Dragic is a better pick and roll PG to pair with Towns also. Towns shot 42% from 3 last year and that would probably be about the same with Dragic, running the pick and roll and pick and pop. He had one of his best seasons with Frye and most thought he would shine with Bosh but since he was forced into retirement we never saw that combo. Dragic's defense is bad though, worse than Teague, and would drive Thibs nuts.

The defense is the main reason I can't see that deal happening. I read somewhere else that Minnesota wanted James Johnson in a deal but Miami didn't want to trade him. Miami is not in a position to hold back with players since their 2021 pick is owed to someone else. They can deal their pick this year but without protection since their pick 3 years out needs to convey.

Jeff Teague is not a good player at all. I hope we don’t trade for him, it would be like going on the Brandon Knight ride all over again.

I’d rather we go into the season with Shaq, Melton and Okobo than him.

Maybe Thibbs is sick of too much defense on his squad?
All joking aside, I don't see why they would rather have Dragic than Teague.
Thibs has been rumored to like Dragic for a while including his first year with Minny

Dragic for Butler straight up works. That is lopsided big time in Miami's favor.

Warren and Daniels for Teague works. I am not sure Teague is worth that but we need a point guard I guess.

That's just silly. Teague was an all star a couple of years ago. He can score, he can defend, and he can pass/ distribute. He is head and shoulders above anything the Suns have on their roster.

Teague for Warren works straight up according to RealGM.

He’s a really mediocre at best PG. Saying he made the All Star few years to me is the equivalent of the season that Knight had when he almost made the All Star team with the Bucks.

I’d rather have a guy like Shaq who knows his role and will go out and defend well while playing within instead of a guy like Teague who will take shots away from Booker, Ayton, Jackson etc. And he is an inferior defender to Shaq as well plus overpaid.

His numbers look good in the same sense that Knight’s numbers with the Bucks looked good before we acquired him.

He’s a mediocre at best PG at the age of 30 who isn’t going to improve at all.

This video sums up Jeff Teague’s game very well and if you think it looks familiar, it’s because Knight has many like these as well

I was wondering if you were evaluating based upon that video. That is one game. I cannot see the comparison to Knight. Knight had one good season of stats in Milwaukee. Teague has 9 years in the league.

Lifetime 3 point shooting at 36%
Averaging 7 assists the last few years
2.5 turnovers pg.
85% free throw shooter
And I guess he is a decent defender.

I have no skin in the game with Teague. If he is not substantially better than Shaq etc. I don't want him, but the numbers say he is.

A Minny fan had us trading Tyson for Teague and Dieng.

Just so we all know. That is basically trading a max free agent for Teague. No thanks.
