How much further into talks does Minnesota-Miami need to go.

Gambo says the Suns have not had any talks about Teague.

I'm thinking the Suns want Tyus Jones or as an outlier, Dragic.

Tyus Jones could start for the Suns and if he shows well, he could be their PGOTF. Also he would be a RFA next summer and the Suns would have the rights to match.

Dragic would be an immediate starter and if the Suns mend fences, into the future.

I'd be pretty surprised if Dragic's name has gone beyond "Absolutely not" in the Suns war room. All the Dragic to Suns chatter has been from people saying "wouldn't this be interesting", none of it has been whispers that the Suns actually were looking into it.

I don't think the Suns are going after Dragic but the wildcard that could get him a mention is Kokoskov.

I can't wait for the games to start - it is going to be such a treat to see good D from the Suns - for the first time ever. By Thanksgiving all the whining about our PG situation will be a distant memory. If Melton is as good at on ball D. as Harrison we are going to win the PG battle almost every night. He may well be better off ball from all the plaudits he gets but I wonder if he can pressure as well. When a guy gets by him, he's still not out of the play from what we saw in the video - the same is true of Harrison, probably to a lesser degree as Melton has greater reach.

It doesn't stop there, Bridges is noted for his defense and Ariza has earned a solid rep. Reed looked good in SL - as he did the first year. If he stays healthy we can at least hope it carries over to real games. Jackson is a willing defender even though he hasn't lived up to his rep, IMO. Perhaps Bender will more than flash some D - he made a nice block in SL. Good D is contagious so Book and TJ might try harder. Even Anderson, who knows. Ayton will probably be the key and he does seem to buying into it from what he's said of late.

Bruce Cooper reported that was the rumor but it fell apart. Don't really trust Gambo but McD interview yesterday made it sound that the roster now is the roster Opening Night but will look at options throughout the year.

Bruce Cooper is a TV sports guy right? I can't remember what channel he's on, either 12/NBC or 15/ABC, I think. Has a TV sports reporter broken any news before? I can't recall hearing any that knew their stuff that well.

I would be a little surprised if we pull off a deal for a Jeff Teague type of player. Tyus Jones seems reasonable and realistic. Making a trade that requires as much moving salary as Teague, Dragic, or Kemba would be difficult and I believe would have happened before training camp. Jones is a good prospect but still a prospect that is on a rookie deal.

the problem is we probably don't even have a valid backup pg.

if you rate the average starting pg B, and the average backup C, we've got a couple at C-
and that's not a good deal for the other 4 players on the floor at any given time

I'd prefer a cheap B- or C to hold us over for the year and to make a real pg move next year

Then get ready for yet another year of tanking. Why bother spending $15 million on a Trevor Ariza when the point guard rotation is so bad this team has no hope of being any better than last year?

So, as is, you are predicting 21 wins or fewer this season?

If the point guard rotation remains as is, yes.

Burns and Gambo had an interesting analogy in this afternoon's show. They compared what the Suns are doing at point guard with what the Cardinals did at wide receiver in the offseason, concluding that the Suns could not afford to make the same mistake the Cardinals did by assuming they are set at a key position just because they brought in a couple of young guys as new faces.

We all see what a disaster resulted from the Cardinals' approach...

Cardinals have a lot more problems than just their receiving corps.

And the Suns PG problem is an issue but if the Suns paid Booker the max to be a Harden type facilitator too then this will be his opportunity to do just that.

It's safe to say that we probably have improved at every position so putting last year's record as our ceiling makes no sense to me. And there is no real similarity between what the Cards have done and what the Suns are doing. Just because two entertainers suggest there's a reasonable comparison, that doesn't mean there actually is one. AFAIC, many of us know a hell of a lot more about the Cards and the Suns than either one of those guys do. Unlike them, some of us here actually watch every game these teams play.

I applaud your optimism, but I don't share it. I hope you are right and I am wrong.

I don't follow football, so I have no idea what's going on with the Cardinals, but your first sentence is spot on. Last season, the Suns were outmatched on every position except for SG and on some night SF. They are no worse on PG than last year, and if they are, it's marginal. With Bridges and Ariza, along with an older JJ, they are better at 2 and 3 than they were last year, and with Ariza and Anderson, they are stronger at 4 as well. While I am not buying into the Ayton hype, he cannot possibly be worse than Alex Len, so I am confident they are better at 5 too. Do I wish they manage to trade for a legitimate point guard? Absolutely! However, even with the current roster, the Suns should be far better than last year.

In addition, I'd say that the point guard rotation is also NO WORSE than last year. If the PG rotation is on par with last year, but EVERY other position is improved, the math simply doesn't work when predicting no change in final record.

I share his optimism although maybe not his confidence level. Still, I see far more reasons for hope this season than despair. Right now, anyway.
