I sound like a broken record but Carlos Rogers is out there.

I gotta believe this guy is injured. There are too many teams desperate at CB right now for him to just be sitting there. If he isn't, I say we kick the tires on this dude. BHICH
Then again, I thought the same thing about Kerry Rhodes at S and he never came back at all. The NFL is weird sometimes.

He may be taking the year off like Davis from SF to let his body recuperate.

This kid HB can't be replaced exactly. He played with smiles, heart and passion. No team has another like him IMO! However, from what I've seen of Swearingen it looks like he will fit. And if the FO likes how with Bruce he will be good or gone.

I was watching DJ in the first half of the Eagles game and he was close or in alot of the plays. He hits hard and with his shoulder alot. The hit on Ertz was close to a head to head but not sure it if counts if they hit the side of helmets. I look forward to seeing him more on the field. I know he won't replace HB, but I think he will be someone they can count on in being in on alot of plays.

maybe the best part about him is the teams we face will not know much more about him than we do...how we will use him, etc.

Said this before and will say it again but nobody we get can replace the range of TM. He wasn't perfect, obviously. But TM covered so much field. Can't replace that. We can get guys to cover or lay hits, sure, but who can we get to cover the middle of the field, blitz, play man, and Cover a TE all at once? Nobody.

Our hopes aren't dashed, not saying that. But to think he's rapidly replaced is ridic.

I really don't think people comprehend defenses at all. It's not as simple as plugging in another dude. When TM was in there, offenses had no clue whether he was playing as a safety, slot corner, corner, blitzing, roaming, LB, or any other position. He's impossible to scheme against. Sure, you can plug another dude in who can do one thing, but when you do that the offense knows his role and where he's going. With TM they had no clue.

And nobody on defense had the range TM did.

People pretending like we can just plug a player in don't know football.

Hopefully the secondary unit can pick up the slack---Peterson remains glued to the best WR---Powers returns to the slot where his skills are best utilized---Bethel and Jefferson are very good blitzers---Swearinger is a forceful tackler---and Clemons is solid in coverage.

This is kind of a bold statement. I dont doubt that DJ has some similar playmaking ability, but he is replacing a legit DPOY candidate and has been in the system for only three weeks.

I'm hoping that the former 2nd round pick was cut only because of conflicts within the Texans's organization and not because he is a bust.

It is bold however I am stating it more in the context of DJ laying a big hit like HB could or blitzing like HB could. I think in those respects DJ can bring it pretty much like HB. In coverage I am not so sure. When I say there would not be much of a difference I mean in the areas that DJ plays very much the same as HB. I suspect we will see a much different package in the secondary especially if Johnson can't go again. I could make for a very interesting chess match between our DC and Green Bay's OC.

Exactly. I expect Powers to do a pretty good job replacing Mathieu's slot coverage role. And hopefully Swearinger can hold his own when it comes to a run stopping / blitzing role. But the problem is, the Cardinals now have to choose one package or the other, rather than having someone who can do everything well on the field all the time. And neither of them can tackle as well as the Honey Badger (though Swearinger's hard hits might have a different kind of value).

It's a team game and I have little doubt the boys will pull through... That said, HB's ballhawking abilities and 6th sense on the football field will surely be missed.

That's a heck of a statement! That's what you want to hear
I laughed at his comment
Steal his own truck....lol

Words are cheap...lets see him on the field playing INSIDE the defense and doing his job

Chuck Cecil...a blast from the past as big as one of his hits!

Imagine the highlight reel you could put together of Chuck Cecil, Adrian Wilson, and DJ Swearinger if he pans out. Eep.

If you pull out draft threads from the year Swearinger came out, I really want the Cardinals to draft him. I watched quite a few of his game at South Carolina that year and he was a force to be reckoned. He was/is a big time hitter who has coverage ability. On a defense with Clowney and a numbef of other NFL players, he looked like the best player at times. If I remember correctly he lined up at CB at times as well and held his own.

I'm excited about his future with the team.

As to personality issues, he's had a controversial history. He was fine when SCar was winning but made some unfortunate tweets when they declined. As a team captain you'd expect more. There was an issue in the NFL with being expected to play special teams. After his 2 releases he was subsequently vetted by several teams who decided he hadn't matured beyond these problems, including the Packers. Still being worked out and not signed may have widened his outlook. He may realize this might be his last NFL chance.

As a player if properly used he can be an impact player. When the Cards were trying to grab someone off the street, they fully know there are no optimum choices. He is not fast enough to cover wide receivers except maybe in a two deep zone. He is decent at covering typical tight ends, but not the fastest ones. He has good ball skills and can pick one off if given the chance. He's a big hitter who can cause fumbles, but he can pick up penalties by being out of control. He is a willing tackler and can blitz a little. He has the power to run through backs left in to protect the QB. His best asset is his non-stop motor. He doesn't take off plays.

If guys like PP & HB can keep him in line then Keim may have made another great pickup in a long list of successes. I like the gamble.
