I would be more willing to trade out of this year's draft if we do not get the player we want at 4, or maybe or lower picks for better picks next year.

No thanks. Last time we did that we gave up the chance to draft Andre Iguodala or Luol Deng and ended up getting Jackson Vroman and the future pick ended up being in the 20s the following year which we promptly traded. I'd never give up a top pick in hopes of getting a better one in the future.

Someone said trade out of this year for better picks next year. There's no way to guarantee better picks than 4 next year. The nets don't have their pick.

The 4 to magic for 6 and 25 doesn't interest me either. We are going to have a glut of young players after this draft. We don't necessarily need more draft picks we need impact ones. 25 likely doesn't offer that.

That was probably me but I'm not really on that bandwagon, too many risks. But I would have been thrilled to trade down to 8 or 9 for Markkanen with a lottery pick in the next 2 years as compensation. I'd love to increase our chances of getting one of the bigs in next year's draft or even Bagley the year after.

When I made the trade out completely for next year comment I had it in mind that we could get back into this draft with a Bledsoe trade (and still grab Lauri that way). And if that happened I'd probably offer both of our 2nds this season to get a pick in the late 20's to draft Jawun Evans. Of course, Evans might still be there for us in the 2nd round but I suspect he's going to kill it in workouts and someone might take a chance on him earlier.

Agreed. However, it would be nice if the Suns did the reverse of this, offer #32 and a first round pick in a future draft for a top ten pick in this draft. However, this is unlikely to happen because rookies are a cheap way to stock a team with talent.

I'm not in favor of trading out of the pool of talent in this draft.

I would not trade out of this draft unless I was getting a young all-star caliber player now (and he has to fit our system). There is no guarantee that we would get anything good in a later draft. The Suns did this before and it turned out horribly.

They traded out of the 7th pick and ended up with a late first rounder. They could have had Iggy.

When you have the 4th pick in the draft, you take the best player you can get and be thankful.

Edit: Ah.. Should have read on. Others made the exact same connection. This is a deep draft. I would rather combine picks to move up. We do not need more players, we need better players.

here's my order with Fultz and Ball off the board:

Jackson
Fox
Tatum
Isaac

everyone else

It sounds about right. I wouldn't leave Markkanen out. Somehow I'd like to get an extra pick for Zach Collins.

Markannen? Yuck.

Suns NEED Jackson. When's the last time the Suns had a skilled high motor guy with decent size who could hold his own defending 1-4?

I would be happy with Jackson. He fills a spot we need at SF and if his defense translates to the NBA he fills a need on that spot. If he turns out to be franchise=ISH, the future could be Booker/Jackson combo that you mix in match pieces around for the next decade.

Outside of trading for unprotected Top 3 pick (which is a gamble now knowing who will finish last or close to it) I say just take your chances that Jackson is still there or draft Tatum.

Plus, if you really want to make a trade, I guarantee after drafting "best player available", there are going to be teams below you desperate for a trade.

Tatum, I think he also might be a good pick as well. Honestly, either of these guys might end up being "franchise-ish" front court guys which are hard to find.

I'd still like to get an extra pick for a center like Bam. He might not last to #32. A player like Jordon Bell is also intriguing.

I would trade next years picks for this year, but not vice versa. Trade three seconds to get up into the late first round? Sure.

I really like your last sentence. This is where the Suns will look at trade downs, e,g., drafting Fox.

I don't know if second round picks get you far, but I like the thought. Maybe #32, #54 plus and next years 2nd round pick (preferably the Raptors) might move the Suns up a few slots.

I think FOX is gone in the top 5. I am not sure what trading down one spot will net you. The Kings have nothing.

I just don't see us trading up to take Jackson. If he's really the player so many here believe him to be that will come out in the workouts. And if that happens, I think it's far more likely that Boston will trade Fultz to Philly for Jackson and I don't see us beating that offer. And if it turns out that the hype has been over the top, we've just used the 4 pick to draft the next PJ Tucker. Except that PJ didn't shoot 57% from the free throw line so maybe Andre Roberson is the better comp.

I really hope the buzz for Jackson continues, it makes drafting Fox a lot easier. I'd be thrilled if we traded Eric and managed to add De'Aaron and Lauri to our roster. I've said several times that if Fox can find his outside shot he's probably the best player in this class and the more I watch videos the more convinced I am that he can be a solid shooter from distance. Not that I'll be devastated if we decide Josh is the best player, I just think making him a consistent weapon from the field is more of a challenge.

You 'find your shot' in high school, not in the NBA.

If I had no idea what their numbers were I'd think Fox was the better shooter based on mechanics. Jackson has the exact same hitch in his shot that Matt Barnes and he can't hit a 3 unless it's completely uncontested. JJ shot a decent clip at Kansas 34/90 (38%) but Derrick Williams hit 46/90 three's at Arizona (51%) and well...

Why are people so anxious to throw in a Miami pick to move up 1 spot? Didn't we learn anything from losing the Lakers pick. Their pick is only top 7 protected in 2018 and we also have their 2021 pick. If it doesn't convey next year then we'll get it in 2019 with no protection. Assets like those should only be moved unless they help acquire a sure things and moving up 1 spot to draft someone like Jackson isn't that.

If Miami misses the playoffs next year, we get their pick provided it's not in the top 7 or 8, it's protected there. Next year's draft is supposed to be deep and that is more valuable than whatever the difference is between who is the #3 and #4 this year. If we could find someone to take that pick for an extra pick this year, then I'd do it but not just to move 1 spot for a player who could very well be available at #4 anyways.

The more I watch him the more convinced I am that Fox just needs to mature and add a little strength. I read somewhere earlier today that the guy hit 10 3's in a game in high school so I see no reason to believe he can't turn that weakness into a strength in the NBA. JJ's free throws worry me, how hard would it be to take him out of the game completely like OKC did Roberson if he can't fix that 57%?

I certainly don't think we know anything right now that would warrant paying such a premium to move up one spot. However, stars still matter in this game so if we become convinced through workouts and interviews that Jackson truly is a star in the making, I'd have no problem sacrificing a future pick to make it happen.

I think as long as a future pick has protections on it (top 7?) then it's a little more balanced approach. It's like one of those things too that we can afford to overpay because of our stockpile of assets. It might come down to either overpay for Jackson or settle on Fox and have to undersell Bledsoe in a trade.

Pick your poison.

Kingdad I hear your logic and I can't fault it. As a matter of fact even though I kind of support trading up for Jackson it very well may be stupid to do so if there is a decent chance he falls in our laps by doing nothing. But ya know... Jackson just feels like a perfect fit for this team. It's not only the value of the player we're discussing but how much this team needs what Jackson offers. If we don't trade up for him some other team might so it really doesn't matter that much if Philly is only one spot higher. If we don't trade for Jackson there probably is like a 50/50 chance of getting him. That's still too chancy for my tastes. I think he's too valuable to leave up to a coin flip situation. I'd be willing to overpay to lock him in. Heck we have two Miami picks...we could give them the one that's further out. We'd still have our own pick next season. Plus it's like jeesh we just drafted two players in the top 10 just last season...now we are getting fourth pick again. Next season could still be another top 10 for us.

I'm not thrilled with giving up a first rounder to move up one spot but do we want another PG right now? Plus if there is a way without giving up a first rounder for Jackson then I'm ready to listen.

I'm okay with Jackson, Fox, Isaac. Tatum feels kind of redundant with Warren. Best to stay cool and not risk anything next year with our luck.

This year play to win and grow the core. Don't tank. Booker, Chriss, Bender, Ulis and rookie need time and experience. Chase the playoffs and see what happens.

I was listening to simmons podcast, he said celtics are very high on tatum, possibly have him ahead of jackson (he was speculating who they would take if philly made them a big offer to swap).

I'm more than fine with him at 4 if philly takes jackson. Jackson has the explosion which is why i still have him ahead, but tatum has the body and seems like he could develop a dominant sf post game.
