OK now that we have filled some holes I can see us using our first three picks to grab the best LB,NT & CB if there is one, if not substitute OL. Would you trade our second R3 pick for Olsen? I cant help to think the 6'5/255lb TE who runs a 40 would help a guy like Lienart and keep the LB honest to help our run game. Or do you look for a guy like Aaron Hernandez from Florida to be there later?

Olsen is a very good receiver... blocking... not so much

A lot of great talent and depth at TE in the draft so yeah draft one instead of trading for Olson.

I would do a 3rd for Olsen. I think the Cards will add another TE one way or the other.If Gresham or Gronkowski are gone by the time we pick in rounds 1 and 2, i would look real hard at Olsen if he could be had for a 3rd.

From what I've read, there have been conversations with New England for more than a third...

We should add that, if Leinart is comfortable with his USC buddy, Byrd... there may be no need for a pass catching TE.

Early Doucet is our middle checkdown option. That's all you need to know. Whiz is never going to have a receiving TE who can't block on this team.

I would trade Ben Patrick and a third and have Olsen slide into Patricks role as "recieving" TE and combo him with Spach and Becht to have a well rounded crew at the position.

... and I doubt they'd have any interest. They've just signed a great blocking, so-so catching TE to a five year deal. If they let Olsen go, it's for the highest pick they can get, and, as said - the team that is showing interest (N.E.) has several 2nd round picks.

We need to all realize that he values rugged blockers with a smidge of pass catching skills.

Gresham, Hernandez, Olsen, these types of guys may be dynamic, however they are not high in the thoughts of our head coach. Now Gronkowski..That's a Wiz type TE.

This year may be different because of the way we have to build the offense around Leinart and being run first. We saw what good TE's can do in the playoffs. They ran all over our defense. I think if we have a chance to get a real talented TE that won't cost too much it has to be something to consider.

I don't see why Wiz would change this year.... Especially with all of the evidence to the contrary. He had to integrate Big Ben.... Charlie Batch..... Tommy Maddox..... etc.

He just doesn't have that type of structure. I really don't think he ever featured Heath Miller in Pittsburgh. Maybe in the redzone.....

I guess my opinion revolves around use. Why draft or trade for a TE who won't be considered successful unless he catches 70 or more passes. That will never happen in Wiz's offense. We still have Breaston, Fitz, and Doucet in the slot.

Wiz has shown that he adapts to what he has. He did it with Warner. A TE for Lienart doesn't need 70 catches he needs them at the right time to gain first downs to keep drives alive and to keep the LBs honest which will sometimes give some cushion in the run game.

We don't know how much input Whis had in the drafting process, but FWIW, Miller was a first round pick.

Moeaki does it all, won't require an investment outside a 2nd at most.
Iowa knows how to coach zone-blocking lineman and TEs very well.

No, he's not a great blocker, but that's not where his value is. He's one of the best receiving TEs in the game today.

What, exactly,was his back problem? That's all i have heard is that he injured his back but never what he injured. I did read that he is still not cleared to workout for NFL teams and ,if he can't, that he will drop ,maybe into round 4, in the draft.

Olsen CAN NOT BLOCK!!! He is a HUGE LIABILITY in the run game. He's got good hands and runs good routes. If he's in there...the D knows it's a pass play...
He's too bad at blocking to offer any deal for. Ben Patrick is fine for now.

From what I know it went from "back strain" to Gronk seeing some out of state specialist for the surgery. There were rumors it was the same guy who worked on Urlacher's neck. This stuff has all been pretty secretive, but I would say his pro do will be more telling. If he has disclosed what the surgery was somewhere, it would be news to me. But, his physical abilities and hand skills are a rare combo at TE, and I would say it is definitely a better risk to take than thinking Olsen will suddenly learn how to block.
