I'm a Mike Mayock fan and believe he is the very best draft guy out there. He seems to have the inside information on prospects and the trust of NFL guys because he is an NFL Network employee. For months Mayock has been giving his top 5 at each position and Terrence Cody has never been in the top 5 of his defensive tackles. Just yesterday the new top 5 at each position came out and Mayock has Cody as the 4th best DT behind McCoy, Suh, and Williams.

That is a huge jump this late in the draft process. If we want Cody, we better not be hoping that he is there with a late 2nd round pick because he is going to be long gone.

I wasn't expecting him to be there in the 2nd for us before this. A lot of new 34 teams need an anchor on their line.

I think he will be at #26 when we pick but not in the 2nd round. If we want him we will have to take him on the first round. It is a risky pick but then again aren't they all.

The real question is... Do you want the Cards to possess a Vince Wilfork or Shaun Rogers type athlete anchoring our 34 which frees up both DD&CC to rush the passer. If your answer to that is no, then you need your head examined. Mount Cody is the REAL deal and will prove it next season and beyond. Special player in our package regardless of how much other teams like to pass. We will regret it for a long time if we don't get a huge / talented anchor NT.

I stopped paying attention to Shaun Rogers after he was traded.
How has he done as a 3-4 anchor?

I have a lot of respect for Mayock.

I also have a lot of respect for my own eye-balls.

I realize he's shed 40 - 50 pounds, but the footage of the kid's Pro Day still showed him to be carrying too much flab. No muscle tone and too much soft fatty tissue flopping around out there.

I realize that NT's can be bigger, fatter and sloppier than other linemen and can still be effective (i.e. the Shaun Rodgers prototype) and that he may be one of those superhuman (late George Young) "Planet People"; but Cody still looked enough out-of-shape to represent a serious medical concern.

If not diabetes, the stress on his knees. If not his knees, his endurance and cardio stress. He may have impressed Mayock and others in drills, but how will a guy like that stand up over the long haul.

Certainly, Cody is moving in the right direction weight-wise to make scouts take notice, but -unless he can shed another 35- 40 pounds, display any hint of muscle tone and then prove he can keep the weight off - I'd be nervous & still would consider him a boom or bust risk until after the 4th round.

Sloppier than this guy? He looked pretty good in the NFL for a very long time:

Honestly I can see the interview process making or breaking his draft stock.

If he seems serious about willing to go on a stricter training regiment, then he'll go pretty high. John Lott could do wonders for the kid

If he acts aloof to training matters or pulls a Gerrard Warren (he showed up here wearing a bunch of bling and spent his time on a cell phone instead of paying attention to what was going on) then his stock will crash.

Most people already know that he's a damned good prospect but his attitude (in general and about specific training matters) will be a huge determining factor

Top 5 list at each position -

Interesting that he doesnt have Odrick or Price in his top 5 DT list.
RE: Odrick - That's because Mayock lists him as a DE.

From Mayock's Top 5 lists:

If thats the case then you should stop looking at that picture and start focusing on the game tape.

That will tell you all you need to know right there.

Yup. Sloppier (At least Wilfork and Rodgers don't look like they need a training bra).

I'm sorry, but when did you EVER see Ted Washington (which is who that was) with his shirt off? Washington weighed hear 400 lbs at times during his playing career. He played for two decades.

When did you see Shawn Rogers with his shirt off? Part of this is that we know more now than we did in the past. I'm sure that Deuce Lutui wasn't looking very slim when he was at the Combine, either. Wasn't he tipping the scales at 360 before he entered Lott's program?

I saw a documentary on Sumo Wrestlers recently. It was very interesting to see how these guys train and eat. Obviously these guys are intentionally trying to put on pounds. However they do it in a way that while they look fat... they are actually finely tuned athletes.

I believe that can be the case with some of these massive NTs we've seen in the NFL. If they follow a proper regime, they may look fat but they are indeed rare athletes.

I think Cody could become one of those rare big guys.

Which regime would that be? Kim Jong Il's? ;)

I don't care what a guy looks like under his jersey, only how he looks in it (game film). The one thing that concerns me though, is that for a guy that's supposed to very strong he only put up 22 on the bench.

The problem with this is that you don't even use your own eyeballs. Yesterday you put out one of the worst mocks I've ever seen because obviously knowing nothing about the players in this draft you treated the worst draft guide on Earth as scripture.

Gentlemen please keep in mind this is a guy who until this morning thought that Sean Weatherspoon would play OLB for us.

Wasnt Herman Johnson also pushing 400 before Lott. I think there has only been one player to not loss weight and keep it off under Lott and oddly enough that was a LB, Buster Davis who thought he didn't need to loss weight and workout with Lott.
