That would be God. And yes, I do pray to Him during games. Not only do I pray that no one is injured, but I pray that we win. Because I know darn well the other side has people playing for them to win and I don't believe in giving anyone an unfair advantage. ;)

That said, Whiz is one smart guy. And i think maybe, just maybe, we should start getting used to him winning these little chess games.

(BTW: I thanked Him after the game as everyone who was in my living room and saw me jumping around yelling, "Thank you Jesus!" can attest.)

you are one funny lady Dems!

I myself said really God?

Really?

There must be some larger point I am missing in my life that I have to love a team that pulls this stuff.

What leason is it that I need to learn here, why would we fumble there? I am truly and completely mystified as to what that answer would be that a bunch of chuckle heads like the Patriots would be deemed worthy and allowed to salvage a game like that.

What could be the point and then God had him shank the field goal and all was again right with the world.

The DA fiasco forever inserted doubt into my fantasy that Whiz was some kind of genius, he's obviously not, not after that one but I guess he can learn.

In reply to my post you said "whatever power you believe in".

I answered with my power: God. Though yesterday it was, specifically, Baby Jesus several times.

Edit: Sorry. My brain kicked in. I misunderstood your post. You said, "Really, God?" I can understand that. But that just made me pray harder. 'Tis a very childlike faith I have. Any further discussion probably needs to go in P&R since I have yet to earn an evil look from the mods and I'd like to keep it that way.

And I'm not blaming Whiz for the DA fiasco until I read the book on what really went on in the FO with all of that. Specifically Leinart's long good-bye. Which should be Chapter 14 in "The AZ Cardinals: Road from Ruin to Rocking the Super Bowl".

Yeah no one wants the wrath of the mods but then again it's just us two and I don't think we're beating the issue to death and it is Cardinal related.

I was never paniced once, I mentioned in another thread I didn't think even when that happened we'd lose, and then they scored and it was called back, then they missed.

I wasn't angry I was just mystified like I said, you could picture that as an angry question but instead it wasn't it was just wow, I must be missing something, wasn't worried and did openly question as to how this was going to fix itself then it played out like it did.

I don't care if they move it or not but to me I was just smiling there's really no other explanation for what's going on.

It's kinda funny, at least I think so.

And to carry the theme on without any religious overtones at all I can definitely say that the team needs to start expecting to win, as do the fans and we all need to start expecting success.

When you expect to lose you usually do.

Cardinal fans have always been very religious. Every Sunday for years thousands of Cards fans would gather at the stadium and yell

"GOOD LORD! :bang:" "MY GOD! :pullhair:"

You are constantly trashed by the Cardinal fandom.

I just want to give you a shout out! You have the franchise in a place many of us long time fans only dreamed. I have faith now that any Sunday we can go out and compete with anyone.

Even with this OL arguably one of the worst ever assembled and mediocre QBs you managed to have this team ready to fight and compete and with a no lose attitude. IMO thats all anyone can ask. The players very much like you and they leave it ALL on the field for you every stinking Sunday.

You are not without fault! But you are by far the best coach this franchise has EVER seen. I for one am happy to have you!

Maybe this offensive line is not as bad as you say? Kolb had good pockets yesterday and even ran the ball. Our only big weakenss was on the left side where our defender just could not stop the fast rookie from running by him play after play. We needed to double team that young man. We sure could have used Levin Brown over there. I would suggest we look over the waiver wires or any guy cut loose that may surprise us as no one could have done worse in stopping the rusher who created havoc on our backfield. Fortunate tha Kolb had good feet as the rusher just missed him as he ran to the left and got the ball off. Perhaps a FB next to Kolb would have helped. For a while NE took him out for reasons unknown to me as he was not stopped once that I recall.

I missed those years. (I count myself as a Cards fan since 2007.)

Which, I am well aware, accounts for my annoyingly sunny optimism.

Hey if God can send Reggie White to the Packers why couldn't He have sent Kurt Warner to the Cardinals? ;)

Ah, I see.

That makes sense now.

I've been a fan since the 70's which accounts for my normally crappy attitude.

I will say that Whiz has changed that slowly, with a real DA detour and all, in general he's been a refreshing change at coach.

Ha, funny.

That has to be the most NEARLY magical thing I've ever seen, all the way right up until we lost the SB.

I can't believe the epic nature of all that and then we lost, it's almost like Cinderella was kindnapped out of the arms of prince charming and sold into slavery.

Sadly, ESPN, CBS, and Fox have shown the 'Stealers' winning TD catch a million times and Fitz' catch to put us ahead almost never. :(

IF I never see that catch and Harrison's pick 6 replayed again I'll be very happy.

In response to the original point of this thread, a little perspective:

Whiz is 42-40 as the Cardinal's head coach.

Awesome winning percentage? No.
Awesome play calling game after game, drive after drive? No.
Awesome individual player evaluation skills? No.
Awesome evaluator of coaching talent? No.
Awesome delegator of responsibility? No.

Awesome head coach? You better believe it!

This coach has taken a team that was 112-207 in the 20 seasons prior to his arrival and actually has a winning record. It's easy to look at last season and say "8-8 isn't good enough". I agree! But try and get your collective minds around this: 8-8 happened exactly twice in the twenty years preceding Whis' arrival (1994 8-8 under Buddy <spitsonthegroundatthementionofhisname> Ryan and 1997 9-7 under Tobin). That's roughly the equivalent of 42-40 (Whiz) vs 29-53 (others before Whiz).

As others have pointed out, mastery of every facet of the game is what you want and expect out of a head coach. But getting a team to not give up in the face of adversity, to buy into what you are selling speaks volumes. Whiz isn't a rah-rah guy (McGinnis). He's not a blowhard (Buddy <spitsonthegroundatthmentionofhisname>). He's got the team believing in the system. And that's the most important thing.
IMHO :)

Here's some more perspective. The Cards went from 2 time NFC West Champions to one of the worst teams in the NFL in one season. They lost 15 of 18 games at one point. Now they've won 9 of their last 11. And may have one of the best defenses in the NFL and are winning games in unbelievable fashion.

Whisenhunt isn't a great coach he's a shill for Cardiologists and Psychiatrists

as a Cardinals coach, his winning percentage is awesome. Which reflects poorly on all of our old coaches/teams

play calling? Yeah, I've made no secret that I think he needs to find a real OC for this team

Awesome player evaluation? I thought he's improved consistently, and a lot, there. Our last few drafts have gone well I thought. May not be hitting many home runs in FA or trades, but I think we've drafted as well as anybody of the past 2-3 years

delegator of responsibility? In terms of coaches or players? I think the players have done a great job of taking their lumps when they screw up and at the same time not blaming teammates when asked about their screw ups. This team is full of young talent that is far more mature than you would expect. I don't see it happening without the environment being created by the coaches...

I'm talking about the play they called, where 5 guys jumped at the same time. It was an easy, easy call. Lynch was poo pooing the call, but when guys who key off the ball ALL jump at the same time, replacement JR. High refs should be able to make the call.

Now, Whis getting bent about it earlier probably had their visuals opened for it, but regardless, five guys jumped which made it a cake call, and the announcers whining about it pissed me off. Easy call.

I feel ya but the thing is the scab refs have struggled for the most part. When refs take 5+ minutes to make basic calls then "Houston we have a problem".

So yes it should have been an easy call but I don't have much if any faith in their ability to see the subleties of such a play. I mean the refs could have assume monkey see monkey do and thought the D caused each other to jump offsides.

Well I experienced the Cards as a fan since the early 70's and still have an annoyingly sunny optimism. I have a feeling you would as well.

The reason for the change from the SOC's to our team today is the change in ownership influence. Bill Sr who was never a fb mind to Michael who is smart enough to let FB men call the shots, at least for the most part.

Amazing how winning changes things. I didn't see too many posts like this when we were watching the Cards lose 13 out of 18 games.

I give CKW props for finally realizing that he hadn't been able to put a consistent defense on the field in 4 years and started allocating the resources to that side of the ball. Of course since the football gods love to play practical jokes on Cardinal fans they turned our Maserati offense into a Ford Focus while our backs were turned watching the Ford Focus defense turn into a Maserati.

This sums it up. A fan since 1967 and the phasing out of Bill Sr and Michael taking over is the biggest reason for the change in the Cardinals.
