dc, what does ginobili's flopping have to do with kobe's flinging his arm out to the side?

It's hard to tell how hard Ginobili is really hit because he's always falling down under contact, although Kobe definitely made some contact on the play in question.

I thought the lakers and celtics had a HUGE rivalry? Why were celtics fans chanting MVP for Kobe last nite?

Game recognizes game.

It also happened in MEM, UTAH (2x) and the NOOCH.

Some might argue the C's fans were doing it to spite their horrific team.

I guess you are right. Hard to tell but the picture posted on here didn't show and redness around the area where Kobe supposedly hit him.

Trying to draw a foul by swinging his arm to the side on the follow through? I need to watch the replay again.

I've never seen someone "follow through" like that. It was not a basketball move IMHO.

After the play he starts off toward the bench like he's completely unaware any contact was made and that Ginobili is sprawled out on the court. Then, like it's an afterthought, he heads over, takes a look down at Ginobili on the court, and turns and heads toward the bench...giving and getting "five" from another player. Was that "five" for trying to win the game or "five" for taking down Manu?

Kudos to former Laker Caron Butler for making the East AS as a reserve!

No Carmello in the West? That's just crazy.

It is shocking. I didn't get to hear it, but that is SHOCKING. I would never cheer for a Celtic at Staples (or anywhere, for that matter). Those old wounds run DEEP.

From LA Times:

returned from a one-game league suspension, amassed 43 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and drove the Celtics to a franchise record-tying 13th consecutive loss.

The scene was almost surreal, with "Kobe" and "M-V-P" chants being yelled by more than a handful of fans late in the game. For the record, that would be a Laker getting cheered by a pro-Celtics crowd.

Long live the rivalry?

"It's the most amazing feat in basketball that won't ever show up in the record books," longtime Lakers trainer Gary Vitti said incredulously. "Boston fans yelled M-V-P for our guy."

You know Kobe does that quite often. He flails his arms out to the sides trying to get a foul call. He does it about 5-8 times a game, mostly in the paint.

Stu Jackson:
"After [Bryant] followed through with a shot, he drove a stiff arm backwards in a hard motion and struck Ginobili in the head." Jackson went on to call it an "unnatural basketball act" and made it clear that the league's justice department "did not view this as an inadvertent action."

Phil in the LA Times responding to Stu's comment:

"There's so many things going into it, that to draw a conclusion like that leads me to think that a non-basketball player probably made the decision on this particular act. I don't think someone who played basketball and knows how people work to try and get a foul or try to create contact to make a foul would question that."

I don't think it was Celtics fans. There's a Celts fan on another board that said there were plenty of LA fans at that game and since the Celts had nothing to be happy about you could hear those LA fans.

This was my point.

I've seen guys, even Kobe, flail their arms and try to get a foul - just not like this. It looked odd and intentional.

Oh come on BIM, we all know you cover your eyes for most of the Laker games when Kobe's touching the ball.

Lots of talk right now about the Lakers and Nets trading, with the Lakers landing Kidd.

I am fine with this happening, as long as we don't move Farmar for it to happen. I don't want to get an aging, declining Kidd for a guy who has the potential to be the next Kidd. Best case, Farmar gets to play behind him for a bit and learn from him.

Yeah, being a fan and all. What, fans can't have opinions? You sure have a lot about the Cards and Suns. You sure are vocal.

You find the strangest, most non-funny things to be "lmao-able."
