He can guard Paul Pierce in the Finals!!!

;)

I was hoping he would be healthy in the Finals last year for that very reason. Our defense was nonexistent.

Now with Bynum in the middle and Ariza and Kobe prowling perimeters, it is fun to watch.

I hope the refs don't let Pierce maul Kobe this time.

Ok, here is a question since I am obviously missing something here..

Is there any reason why Ariza isn't starting instead of Vlad? I understand the logic in making Vlad the starter, Jackson wants a shooter in there that can spread the floor and be a threat from the perimiter, but so far Vlad has not only not done that, but been a defensive liability as well. His 46% shooting on 3's looks good on a stat sheet, but anyone that watches the games knows it's because he'll be red hot one night, then go 1-6 for the next 2 games. Ariza is shooting 50% from the floor for the season, is far more athletic, has a better chemestry with the starters and is a much better defender. Is Vlad just in there for the ability to hit the 3? Because you wouldn't think that would be enough if he was a liability in other areas.

This is all just theoretical talk of course, please don't take this as me complaining about the Lakers performance. They're 14-1 and blowing out everyone, it's more just a topic for discussion. I guess if you're winning 93% of your games you probably aren't really looking to change much. Still, I would like to see Ariza get the nod.

WILD ending to this one. Congrats to the Pacers for holding home court.

Lakers broke down at the end and got sloppy.

It's kind of funny that the 7-10 Pacers have now beaten the two best teams in the league.

You arent kidding. I almost turned it off or FFWD it during the fourth, but didnt.

Bynum's reverse alley-oop jam in the third was :thud:

The Lakers responded tonight just like I hoped they would, dominating in Philly. The loss to Indiana was probably a blessing in disguise.

They seemed to be getting a bit cocky, winning by double digits every night. When they took the big lead into the fourth against the Pacers it looked like they went into cruise control and it came back to bite them. Good to see them back on track.

I am concerned that they are getting lazy on defense. They are regressing into team lightswitch, letting teams play close and then turning up the heat. I hate that mentality.

Go out, play hard defense for all/most of the game, and bury teams early.

This late penchant for half-assery early in the game, then locking down hard on D in the third and fourth is a sign of the immaturity of the team. They better get that ish corralled, quickly.

Phil Jackson said:
"We are what we are, I guess," he said. "A good offensive team."

Referencing Bynum wondering why he was substituted: "That's none of his business," he said with a crooked smile. "He just goes out and plays. That's his job."

When pressed further, he smiled wryly and added, "He's a kid. He doesn't know any better."

"Some of the guards outrebounded Andrew tonight," he said gruffly.

"We really need that rebounding. That's a real part of our game."

"I'm still not happy with the defense,"

He can still mind eff with the best of them.

Barely.

Defense seems to be breaking down.

Wiz are one of the worst teams in the L, and we not only let them score high on us, we let them have the last shot to tie the game. Unacceptable.

Phil could have done a better job realizing when the 2nd team was starting to surrender the lead. I know the Wiz aren't a great team but they aren't so bad that you can ride your bench for the entire 4th quarter in their house.

I think they really, really needed that. They were handled by an inferior team, because they played piss poor defense.

They've been coasting for a bit now on D..as if they think they will be handed a trophy at the end of the season for showing up. I know it's tough to say a 17-3 team needs a wakeup call, but they need a friggin wakeup call.

MESA! :thud:
When I saw you posted in here, I was wondering if you were going to comment on whether you thought they'd do better or worse than last time.

Did Shaq play last time? What's your reasoning for the better outcome? Is this one home vs. last one away?
