Frye may not be ready by the start of the season if so who starts at PF then?

Beasley at PF, Dudley at SF and Brown at SG? Or Morris at PF, Beas at SF and Brown/Dudley at SG?

You're forgetting Scola.

Frye wouldnt start over Scola anyway, and if Lopez returns I think Frye will quickly see himself reduced to a borderline rotation player.

Oh yea forgot about our new player from Argentina.

Gentry is gonna have a lot of fun figuring out the front court rotations ;)

Here's my guess at our lineup:

Dragic/Marshall/Telfair
Dudley/Brown
Beasley/Tucker
Scola/Morris/Warrick
Gortat/Lopez/Frye

Looks like the starting lineup is almost set with the exception of the SG position where either Dudley or Brown could start. Dudley reportedly holds a slight edge for the position. Wes Johnson will almost certainly start the year coming off the bench.

Last year's numbers for Dudley and Brown as starters:

Dudley, 60 starts: 13.2 ppg, 49% fg, 4.7 rpg in 31.9 mpg
Brown, 19 starts: 15.8 ppg, 44% fg, 3.7 rpg in 31.2 mpg

I'm really surprised half the posters chose Brown over Dudley. To me it's a no-brainer that Dudley should start over Brown. He's got better basketball IQ, he's a better team player, and he's better defensively.

I voted for the Suns opening lineup to be:

Dragic-Dudley-Beasley-Scola-Gortat

However, in regard to SG, Brown plays better as a starter so an argument could be made for Dudley to come off the bench where he excels. However, I can't see Dudley not being the starter if that is what he wants. He has earned it. See a link to an article that discusses the SG position.

I'm starting to lean toward a Dragic-Brown-Dudley-Scola-Gortat starting 5 w/ Beasley coming off the bench as 6th man. He's a shooter, let him play that Jason Terry role. He'd go a long way in turning his career around if he could grasp that role and be mentioned among the names for 6th man of the year. The suns could use someone off the bench to score in bunches, but they don't need someone who shoots every time he touches the ball as a starter.

You could be right but so far the guy has disappointed in a complementary role. I think we have the perfect mix of players to just put the game in his hands and see if he can be the star. Also, I always thought of him more as a scorer than a shooter.

You're correct, I should have referred to him as a scorer, not a shooter. I don't believe he embraced the complimentary mentality, but like I said, if he did. Let's face it, the guy may have all the talent in the world, but he's sadly immature. I'm hoping Gentry and the Suns will help his mental growth and if so the role would suit him IMO. Of course these are just my thoughts this week, next week I may change my mind. With expectations so low, it's a perfect time to try different things.

In my opinion, stats don't matter when talking about Dudley. He brings so many intangibles to the table that stats are irrelevant. Energy, hard work, and defense that he brings to the table go beyond any stat sheet.

When determining this, I think it helps to look at their bench stats as well. You have to find the best possible combination of both bench and starters minutes. If Dudley is a good starter but a better (or as good) bench player and Brown is a much worse bench player, than your decision is an easy one. It also might be interesting to check out both players +/- as starters and bench players.

I still like Dudley being the first guy off the bench.

Yeah, I prefer him that way also. For me, when he's coming off the bench you can't help but celebrate what he is. When he's starting, it's hard to overlook what he isn't.

Sad that his talents are wasted here. He'd be such a good complimentary piece on a contender.

I think so too. He's the kind of player that could improve almost any team.
He improves us too, he probably adds a half dozen wins per season. Six wins would mean a lot more though to a team in the thick of it all. Before, I get called on it, I pulled the number 6 from the same place I get most of my facts.:)
