The Knicks had someone in charge of their defense?

I'm curious to see how Hornacek does without Jackson's interference and he doesn't have to accommodate Melo anymore either. I hope he does well but I think he's too soft to be an NBA head coach. He had problems controlling the Suns with the Morrii and he's had trouble keeping Melo happy while being forced to use the triangle offense from PJ.

Woj is reporting that the league has changed rules, or adopted them, in regards to teams resting players as well as some reform for the Draft Lottery.

"The resting regulations deliver Silver the ability to fine teams for sitting healthy players in instances that include nationally televised games. That legislation needed a simple majority to pass."

Here are the new odds, the top 4 picks will be determined by the lottery now. This goes into effect during the 2019 Draft Lottery drawing. Next year's lottery will be the same.

True! Jeffy is a perfect example of an employee who is promoted to his level of incompetence. He is intelligent. He is likable. But he is a career Senior Assistant. Because he is not authoritative.

The only owner, guru or GM who would hire him is one who wants a Head Coach who is not going to rock the boat or challenge their authority. And that is the definition of a loser.

I admire Jeff greatly. But the figurehead? The guy at the top on the court? It is just not who he is.

Russell Westbrook has agreed to a five-year, $205M contract extension with OKC, league sources tell ESPN.

That's got to be a huge relief for OKC. I guess acquiring Paul George and Melo was worthwhile for them. It'll be interesting to see if one or both of them stick around, or if OKC is even willing to pay both to stick around. George will be the top free agent next summer, I know Lebron will be a free agent also but he'll be 33 while George will be just 28.

Carmelo can opt out at seasons end but he'll be 34, so I doubt he turns down the $27.9 million dollar payday he's set to earn for the 2018-19 season. If he knew both George and Westbrook were leaving he might opt out but with Russ still there they'll be a playoff team at the least. He won't get an offer close to that next summer money wise and he's made enough throughout his career I doubt he'd opt out just to sign a long term deal for security.

Can people here finally stop buying into the BS that everyone is going to the Lakers every year/off-season?

they're a dumpster fire unless Ball ends up being the second coming of Magic.

I don't think that's a problem with posters here but it is something the talking heads on ESPN & TNT push that same narrative. I haven't seen anyone here suggest Westbrook would be going there. In Paul George's case that narrative exists because his agent has been pushing it for the last 6 months which is why Indiana didn't get much in return for him when they traded him.

yeah it is... it comes up EVERY TIME someone laments that Laker pick being traded. That the Lakers are going to be good soon, so that pick doesn't hurt as much... which it does and will when Philly probably picks top 3 AGAIN next year.

Off the top of my head, i specifically remember JCSunsfan saying Westbrook was going there, in addition to others worried about the same thing... or worried that George will go there, etc. etc. And time will tell with George... but is he REALLY going to take A LOT less money, to go play on a TERRIBLE team, where his tax rate will also be through the roof? I'm guessing we find out no.

Did I say that? I do not remember doing so.

I think I remember saying that many THOUGHT he was going to the Lakers but never predicted such a thing. I don't think I ever believed it.

Hmm. So ALL the all-stars could come from one conference then? With the flight of NBA talent going west, it was becoming clear that the all-star game would be terribly uneven and star players would be left out. Also, some players have all-star kicker clauses in their contracts. So, in order to make the all-star team, you have to be top 30 in the league, not top 15 in your conference.

And Devin and even Eric could have a chance at all-star status this year.

It's still 12 guys from each conference, just the teams are going to be all jumbled up.

No, the choice of all-stars remains the same. Voting from fans for the starters and voting from coaches from the reserves and split by conference.

It's the makeup of the teams that will be different.

That's lame then. Should just be the best guys
Major League baseball doesn't work that way. Neither should the NBA. Or any other professional league.

Why? Because All Star games are meant to cater to the fans, who live all over the country, both in person and through electronic media.

Remember, pro sports is a business, dedicated to the revenue producing public. At least, that's how it needs to be.

Its primary purposes are certainly not to cater to statisticians.
