The hand they were dealt? You make it sound like the suns had a deadline in which to make a hire. Now I’m not espousing when they should have made a decision but let’s not make up facts. The suns 100% absolutely could have waited and included Casey in their search. Many teams haven’t yet hired their coach.
They got the guy they wanted. I am quite happy with the choice.

especially since no one else was even interviewing Igor.

Really? Because they apparently offered Fizdale a contract before Igor and had two days of meetings with Bud before he pulled out.

Looks like they got the third coach they wanted.

Both sides pulled out of the Bud situation. Who knows what really happened with Fiz but I know this, I did not want Fiz.

I didn't either... just think "The Suns got the guy they wanted" is a bit of specious statement.

And where are you getting that both sides pulled out of Bud?

Published sources at the time. "Mutual decision" was the specific verbiage used.

All signs pointing to Sixers assistant Lloyd Pierce as the next Hawks coach, per league sources. GM Travis Schlenk worked w/Pierce at Golden State. Pierce has met multiple times with Hawks management/ownership, including majority owner Tony Ressler in Boston Tuesday.

Not sure about Lloyd Pierce. He is not a name that has seemed to be of interest to anyone or held in particularly high regard. It seems that teams that are in the beginning stages of rebuilding hire cheap "sacrificial" coaches to go through the bottom of the transitional curve. There are probably a lot of reasons. It is cheaper. Quality coaches do not want to go through that cycle. It is easier to fire the coach when it is time to compete. Tanking is easier with a marginal coach.

Just thinking out loud here.

I think Budenholzer had interest in the Suns job at first but by the time he interviewed there was a ton of coverage about him being the top coaching acquisition this offseason and he bought into the hype. He's sat back and interviewed with other teams but doesn't appear to have made any headway anywhere. I think he was waiting for a job like the Raptors job to open up, a playoff team looking to improve on what they had rather than taking a young team to the playoffs. It'll be interesting to see if he signs anywhere this offseason because the Knicks, Bucks, and Suns have all named their head coach and those are all the teams he's interviewed with. I have to think the Suns job would be more attractive than Orlando but who knows. The jobs are getting filled now, no one appears to be waiting on Bud at this point.

Yep. Three teams have passed on Bud so far. I think he is a good coach, but there is something. With the Suns it might have been compensation for Atlanta. But salary is probably a factor too. After all. He can sit home hand collect $7 million a year. So a team is going to have to make it worth his while.

Yeah saw that. Ridiculous. Simmons had his first season and fultz hasn’t really played and the coach is braying that they need help?!? I mean, I get that they have cap space so why not use it. I get that adding a star makes a championship MUCH more likely. But “NEED help?!?” Lame.

I’m giving him a pass based on the roster he had the first three years lol.

I'm guessing he wants to buy the groceries.

Nice timing for the Hawks...

https://sports.yahoo.com/hawks-dennis-schroder-don-t-171101494.html

Though the headline makes it sound worse than the actual article...

Never got the hype around Schroeder. If we hired Coach Bud then maybe it'd be worth inquiring about him but not now. I think Atlanta made a mistake not trying to run with Horford, Millsap, Korver, and Teague one more time before blowing things up. They seemed to do what a lot of people are envisioning for Toronto. Lose badly to Lebron in the playoffs so throw in the towel. They tried with Schroeder instead of Teague and kept falling further down the standings.

Maybe is Schroder werent such a dick, played defense, and could actually shoot, the Pacers or the Bucks would want him. I cant see either being very interested.

Milwaukee might be interested...Sounds like Bledsoe, but four years younger!

I'm not sure if Schroder has a positive or negative value.

I don't suppose the Hawks would be interested in trading for Knight.
