The Cardinals are apparently interested in Baker Mayfield

I thought it was interesting to read Peter King’s latest mock draft. Not because of the projections but because of how he connects Baker Mayfield with the Cardinals. You can read the whole thing by clicking here.

Call this hunch the Won’t Get Fooled Again Pick. I’ve always thought a segment of the Cardinals had regrets over the 2017 draft when, with a 37-year-old quarterback (Carson Palmer) possibly in his last year, they were leap-frogged by teams who took Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson one and three picks ahead of them. Plus, the Cardinals don’t like Baker Mayfield. They love him.

Now, obviously it can be a smokescreen that the Cardinals themselves has told someone, but I think Peter King phrases it more as a general view than as a source telling him something. Later in the article he writes that an anonymous scout has told him something similar about Mayfield, but that scout does not mention the Cardinals specifically. Anyway, I just thought is was interesting to read.

At this stage I'm happy if we end up with any of the six always mentioned QB prospects. All of them carry a legit 1st round grade but also some risks. Keim didn't see the obvious need for QBOF in recent years, despite Pamer being old and always injured. Now we brought in an even more injury prone version of Palmer. Keim was in the organzitation in our darkest QB era after Warner retired, so I just don't get it why he put us in perfect position to go down that ugly route again. At this point Keim must take a chance on one of these young guys and hope for the best.

I sure hope not. The new SI cover has a nauseating photo of Baker on it....

Why go all in for any of the top 4 or 5 when we know there will still be a decent QB at 15.

I still think Mayfield will be there in the 6-10 range for us to trade up and get him. Two number ones and a number two should do it. Very cheap for a franchise quarterback that will lead the team for the next ten or so years.

I really hope this is a smokescreen. Moving up for Mayfield could go down as the dumbest move in NFL history. This guy has so many character problems and limited NFL potential. It's the Browns taking Johnny Manziel but way worse if we move up to #5.

I've seen all these already. There's much more that has happened here in Norman that got swept under the rug. Maybe he'll grow up but I doubt it. Good luck to him wherever he goes, hopefully not Arizona.

if he's their guy and they love him as peter king is reporting, then they have to make a move and go get him. SK has been burned on waiting and being cute in the draft hoping a guy would fall. i don't know how baker or any other QB will pan out, but if they love him they need to trade up.

if they love any QB you all should be supportive of the team aggressively going after a guy, we've never done that for a QBOTF in the draft.

that's all there is to it, everyone has their favorite guy this year it seems, but i trust the FO for the most part, their scouting and personnel resources run much deeper than anyone here

I really can't get behind it even if the team is truly convinced. It's just plainly too much to give up. It's 6 of one, a half dozen of the other in this situation. Do I want to be the team that "would be good if they had a QB," or the team that has a QB but "would be good if they surrounded him with talent?" I'm more inclined to think that we have a better shot of catching lightning in a bottle if we have enough flyers to take a chance with, rather than putting all of our eggs in one basket.

Not to mention if we do go all out for him we weaken this draft to the point we assure next year's # 1 will be a top 10 pick. A pick we will have traded.

How about signing the police officer who made that open field sack as Mayfield was attempting to scramble down the sidewalk? ILBer or a situational pass rush DE specialist?

Exactly why I said in another post last week Keim needs to use that in trade negotiations to his advantage.

Make it happen SK!

So, if “make it happen” ends up costing two 1s, two 2s, and a player to Betcher’s liking, let’s just say Markus Golden for the sake of a name, and maybe another 3, are you going to be happy Kiem made it happen? Because that’s what it’s going to take.

Now, if he drops to the Bears or Bucs pick, just maybe it will be semi reasonable.
