Attendance didn't change much when the Cards drafted local hero Jake Plummer. It didn't change when they signed Emmit Smith.

I don't see any one player increasing the Cards ticket sales unless they signed Peyton Manning.

Besides the Cards were only a couple of thousand short in selling out the games they did have to hustle to beat the blackout.

Public Relations "pick" Tebow.

Football pick: Kindle, Spoon, Cody, Hughes, or trade down.

If football people are as enamoured with Tebow, as Walter, than we have a possible trade down partner in Minny at #30.

I am enamored with Tebow's toughness, work ethic and extraordinary will to win.

But, CC, this thread was about what I think Whiz will do. I am not choosing players just because I like them, although it helps if I do.

As I said I will be posting what I would like Whiz to do tomorrow.

The player that I am most enamored with at #26 is Jerry Hughes. If he's not there I want Whiz to trade down.

Its undeniable that Tebow is the "sexiest" pick in the draft this year. But he is also the riskiest, especially if a team decides to take him in the first round. Honestly, we dont know what we are going to get out of him. Is he a pro QB? A wildcat QB? H-Back? Tight end? Complete bust? Who knows until he gets out there.

With that said, he does not fit the Cards needs at all. We are set for now at QB and we dont run many gimmicky plays i.e. Wildcat sets. Our #1 need in the 1st round is defense, whether it be ILB or NT.

As for Prime Time; unless we get "flexed" in the middle of the season, he wont increase our prime time exposure because the schedule comes out on Tuesday and the draft is Thursday. In addition, "flex" is usually dictated by the match up; therefore, if we are, let's say 4-5 at the time, chances are we arent getting additional national games.

1. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida. Whiz's first QB draftee in Arizona.

I think there is a 95% chance of this not happening, but it is an interesting discussion.

Let's check against Whiz's 4 pillars to win (I heard him speak and he is just a brilliant man).

1. Have a plan - this is up to the coaches so not an issue.
2. Experience success - Heisman and national championship? Check.
3. Competition - He was the starter for arguably the best college team. Check.
4. Teamwork. Everyone on FLA looks at Tebow as a team guy. Check.

Again, I don't think this happens, but a good popcorn discussion.

Mitch this one though entertaining is about as off the mark as ive seen in terms of possible picks at #26. Tebow is a huge rusk for any franchise to take in the first round but to have one team that has so many needs in defense take a gamble on a QB who is not even in the top 3 of this years weak QB class is ridicolous. Our needs at D are so big that i doubt we take Bradford if he is there at 26 even though Whisenhunt actually said we would.

Mitch, I don't think we NEED Tebow now.

If you want a QB OTF and you want the character of Tebow I'd wait a couple of years and take a good look at Matt Barkley out of USC. Very much the same kind of guy.

After giving up 70 points in 4 consecutive quarters, defense is the top priority. There were signs of this to come earlier in the regular season, letting some of the weaker teams make comebacks in the 2nd half to make games close, the 500 yards of offense by the Titans, etc. Once the Cardinals met the top offenses in the conference their weaknesses were exposed even more. Not addressing this in the first round and taking advantage of the strong defensive talent in this years draft would be a mistake imo.

Whisenhunt already made it clear that, at least for the time being, starting QB is Matt's job to lose, and it will not be a QB competition in training camp. Drafting Tebow sends the opposite message. They appear to want to give Matt his best chance to use his opportunity, and if it doesnt work out, they will likely have a draft pick in the top 10 or certainly top 20 next year to draft a QB. Meanwhile they will have hopefully improved the defense and have less holes to fill in next years draft.

While, Im not completely against a Tebow pick, I think it is very doubtful at best he is taken given what they have done thus far in the offseason. With a franchise RB in place (finally), 3 solid recevers, and we put off the question of QB until we see how Matt performs, we are in a great position to stock up at positions of need.

It was an interesting idea though, and at least Mitch isn't afraid to voice his opinion even when it will create a lot of controversy. I think Tebow may become a very good player, but given the current situation, the Cardinals can best play the percentages by going with defense.

Would selecting Tebow create Buzz sure it would. But not all buzz is good buzz, there is some reefer out there that just isn't any good. Oops off topic. Not all buzz is good buzz. Heavy scrutiny and heavy questioning of the pick is also a form of Buzz. The Raiders create Buzz almost every year, but is it good buzz.

1. DE-OLB Jared Odrick. The Cards have seem to start drafting with next year in mind. Yes we all want Dockett here but if he bolts, we will be glad we prepared for it. Remember when we drafted Calais Campbell?

Dockett is under contract for two more years so where exactly is he bolting to? Sorry but this one is a little off base, maybe if it were next year, but it isn't.

Also, I don't think the team saw Antonio Smith as a core player, and thus one that they'd let walk. I doubt they feel the same way about Dockett, i'm pretty sure they'll get an extension done with him as priority number 1 next off season.

After 52+ years of Life....

I've learned to never discount the GOD-factor! For Tebow to surprise all the critics would not be that big a surprise to me. GO CARDS! :)

If you want a QB OTF and you want the character of Tebow I'd wait a couple of years and take a good look at Matt Barkley out of USC. Very much the same kind of guy.

We indeed need a QB now. Why? Because Whisenhunt never starts rookies on difficult positions, no matter how talented they are. We draft replacements a year or even two ahead (In Early Doucet's case). Everything is planned well.

Mitch - I totaly agree. You can't teach will to win and toughness. That's why Leinart will never be more than average. QB is the toughest position in the game. It's the one requiring most personality and leadership. Tebow does seem to have all that, and I absolutely love his interviews, more than any other player. Not even Clausen is close to him when it comes to toughness and will to win.

Casserly made a good point on the mechanics. They are so horrible that even if he teaches how to drop back, step up, and release fast, over the shoulder, he still probably would revert back to the shotgun mechanics in crucial situations. I think that is a valid point. However, chosing between the opposite, namely great mechanics and no will to win, is much much worse. It will fail without a doubt. Tebow at least has a chance, mechanics can be learned. Very few are like Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner, posessing everything. But personality is more important by far, eventhough both personality and mechanics are required to play well.

Another point we miss is that shotgun is not only a college formation. The spread. Draft experts make it sound like that these days: "This guy can only play in the spread, thus, he will have hard time in the pros, he can't drop back". That is only partly true. It was more true before, but these days there is plenty of the shotgun and spread in the NFL. Especially Cardinals, we run it as much as some college teams. KW is alot of the time in the spread, as is Tom Brady. It is not important to look at where from the pass comes. The important is the decision and the accuracy of the pass. Toughness and leadership and will to win.

Tebow will need to have a big learning curve and that will maybe need some years of investment, at least two years IMO. I like him, i still believe Clausen is the better prospect because his learning curve is way way smaller and he will contribute for a team even his rookie year.

This is my QB list:

1. Clausen
2. Tebow
3. Bradford
4. Kafka
5. Lefevour

Bradford has the most amazing accuracy, and because of that he will never be a bad QB. He has an amazing touch on his passes. However, i lack to see the amazing in everything else. Stares down the recievers, is not that tough, and does not have "it". I don't think he will be great because of that, but I don't think he will be bad either. He is worth a pick, he will be a solid/good QB.

Clausen is by far the most polished in all areas.

Kafka and Tebow remind me alot of each other. However Kafka has also the mechanics in place which is intriguing. However, Tebows passes are better, more accurate, and his decisions are also better.

Lefevour, I need to watch him more to make a point, but the more I watch him the more he impresses me.

Also I hate the fact that experts label this as bad QB class. Depth? Sure it is horrible. But if there is one or two guy sthat will be the next great QB's, the class is still fine IMO, you have the chance to get the franchise QB. The depth is just horrible. But I believe that there are two guys in this draft that will be very very good QB's in NFL, and because of that the QB class is a very good one.

I meant we don't need TEBOW now. I agree with what you said in the above paragraph. I'm just not convinced Tebow is "The One".

(I'm rarely convinced someone is "The One". There are too many variables in this game for me to place my faith in one particular player coming in and saving any organization. "The One" is usually part of a package and very often is the surprise at the bottom of the box.)

I'll give you a little help Mitch.

I was listening to ESPN radio on the way home from work today and they had on former Redskins GM Vinnie Cerrato and he was asked where he thought Tebow would be drafted.

He said he could see a team from somewhere in the 20's to the end of the first round taking him.

He believed it would be an offensive head coach that had success with quarterbacks and had evaluated Tebow and believed that he could make him a top flight QB in the NFL.

Take it for what its worth but we are at 26 and the the definition of the coach sounds a lot like coach Whiz.

Thanks, Peri...taking Tebow if he's there is not as far-fetched as some believe. While I am thinking we should trade down, I must say, if Whiz calls on Tebow I will be very excited. In Whiz we trust.

Mitch, we agree on many things but I think we as fans would be let down as well as the organization. I see no chance that the Cards would select Tebow in the 1st Rd given the problems this team has had defensively for many seasons now...Wiz is diffantly smarter than that!!!

I would think 95% of the NFL GM's & scouting personel wouldn't even consider Tebow in their top 40 prospects talentwise as an NFL QB.

Normally the one thing you can count on in the draft is that at least one team will benefit hugely from the Raiders essentially going off the board at some point. It looks like this year at least one team will benefit hugely from another team drafting Tebow too high. (Hmm, maybe the Raiders will draft Tebow and fuse the two into one.)

Look if Whiz really thinks Tebow is the answer (and Leinart is not), then I'm intrigued. But at present, with our pressing other needs, Tebow to Fitzgerald 1-2 years from now doesn't seem like the magic bullet to me.

It's shocking to hear that you think I am 100% wrong, Stout!:D

What we sometimes forget a little is that the NFL is still a business and that generating a buzz around a team is bound to sell tickets and ensure sellouts.

Has there been more buzz around one player in a draft than there is about Tebow? Not that I can remember. And there are very good reasons for it. Tebow's character is Kurt Warner-esque. When has anyone seen a tougher college QB than Tebow? How many college QB's have been more successful? How many college QB's have shown more character and more humbleness?

In a league that has become more and more tainted by the off-field character issues, Tim Tebow is a breath of fresh air and new shining hope. He's the kind of person and player that captures people's imaginations---because he's so danged determined and yet so remarkably humble at the same time.

In some ways Tebow could be compared to Seabisquit...the flawed but extraordinarily resolute racehorse that captured the nation's imagination and gave people the hope to persevere through the Depression.

America is always searching for the next Seabisquit. America loves perseverance, and it loves character. And it especially loves the underdog who overcomes insurmountable odds to achieve greatness.

I know that the FO and Whiz will not draft for PR, for pete's sake, and you know that too. I think you're just throwing outrageous ideas out there to generate buzz on the board. That's cool, because we're about talked out on pre-draft stuff. Your above statements are still absurd, but it's cool :)
