I like his top end speed but it seems to take him awhile to get there. He used his hands occasionally against press coverage in college and I think he's going to have to do that even more aggressively in the pros. But, my big worry about separation isn't whether he'll be able to catch contested balls, it's whether the QB will even view him as a target. If our QB has to put a ball in the air to a covered receiver, he might as well throw it to Miracle Larry.

If this guy can't get enough separation for our QB to view him as a target, I don't see him drawing enough defensive attention to get Larry into single coverage. My mind isn't made up on the guy, I do see some strengths in this pick. Right now, we're viewing him as a complement to Fitz but if he can slim down a little (like Fitz did for our Super Bowl year) and consistently run tighter routes, he could be a nice replacement when Larry retires.

Steve

Really? I think his acceleration is probably his biggest asset. Guy runs like he shoots straight out of a cannon.

I think a lot of his contested catches were due to horrible throws from guys who would make Max Hall look elite. I believe ND were starting Joe Montana's son at one point and the only reason he was on the team was due to his name LOL.

With all due respect to Fitz, Floyd absolutely destroys him as an athlete and is going to be much closer to Andre Johnson if he ever reaches his full potential.

One good thing about Floyd is he is a good run blocker. He is also very good as a slot WR. He is very good using his body to get between the defender and the ball also he is very good going inside on slants and crossing routes.

Good to hear, but I hope he is more like Fitzgerald personally, in the way that Fitz catches just about everything.

He is now one of us, regardless, so I should say I do like the fact he is a big body, that he is a possession WR (with speed I do understand that), and my favorite thing about him, he can block.

So we have two 220 lbs WR that are good blockers. That is nice to see/hear.

Not to mention this:
He is very good using his body to get between the defender and the ball also he is very good going inside on slants and crossing routes.

If we can get a QB that can throw these routes as well, then the Cardinals take care of a big need, IMO. That would be that 2nd WR that can move the chains, and make the big catch in crunch time.

Plus this pick, if it works out, will make our WR core a beast again. Roberts and Doucet are not #2 WR. I think last year, and this pick proves that.

WR #1 - Fitzgerald
WR #2 - Floyd
WR #3 - Roberts
WR #4 - Doucet
WR #5 - [Camp Battle]

If Housler ever lived up to his potential your "5 WR set" would be the four WR's listed above and Housler.

It would be easier to get excited about this if I had more confidence in the offensive line.

IIRC didn't you want us to get a big bodied possession type receiver? I would think you would be thrilled because Floyd is that and as a bonus has good speed.

He just really physical and has great concentration. With the backs we have, wr's, and te's that are weapons, this offense could be really explosive-especially if it is designed to have very quick developing plays.

I have not had a preference of Kolb or Skelton to this point, but why am I thinking that Skelton, with his size and poise is just the better long term fit?

This pick looks like most of our picks the last 5 years. Floyd is a solid pick and should be a very good number 2 for us but like the last 5 years we badly need offensive line and pass rushers and we again ignore our greatest needs.

I agree that we continue to ignore offensive line, but lets not ignore the obvious here: quite a few offensive line needy teams passed on the same prospects that we did.

I fully disagree with using high picks on OL just because you need lineman. The approach to take is to draft lineman every year and build continuity. IMO Reiff was significantly lower than Floyd on draft boards, and would've been akin to drafting Levi over Adrian all over again.

I saind in another post that is o-line is what the cardinals need to draft, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the Cardinal's drafted Floyd. I believe with Floyd the Cardinals are going to have a great wr core just like the Packers have.

One more thing when you are picking in where the Cardinals are at, their is no wrong position to draft.

I 100% certainly did want a big bodied WR.

I just don't like Floyd as a prospect. Had a couple red flags that I just didn't like is all.

It is a careful what you wish for situation.

That being said, whats done is done, so Floyd the guy, fine.

I do think, IF he works out, this will be the missing piece of our WR core. We needed that big body WR, would is a possession receiver (the speed don't hurt tho :D )

Now if our OT's can hold up, and our QB's can get the ball in the area, then we should see a much improved offense this year. Especially on 3rd down.

They interviewed Floyd on Doug and Wolf today and when they asked him, "What are your strengths?" that was the first thing that came out of his mouth: "I'm a good run blocker." Second thing he said: "When the ball is in the air I attack it."
