Why wouldn't we draft a QB in round 1. The last several years, our #1 pick has done nothing for us in year 1 anyways. At least drafting a QB and letting him sit behind Carson for a year would be semi-productive. It doesn't have to be round 1 but I think they need to draft at QB in rounds 1-3

Wasn't there talk about Mike Glennon? Can he sign relatively cheap and he has starting job next year.

Gambo has been reporting that Glennon would love to play in AZ, as long as he is the starter. He wants to start somewhere this year. His price tag, according to a variety of sources is in the $11-13 M per year range, with $23 M in guaranteed money. Gambo believes that Steve Keim is very high on Glennon and that he would have been the option had Carson Palmer retired.

Excellent point. This question lies at the crux of the QB conundrum. If Reuben Foster is available at #13, for example, he could be an immediate factor. Same for Solomon Thomas, Sidney Jones, Mike Williams, O.J. Howard and Corey Davis.

What compounds the issue is how NFL ready the QBs in this draft are. The early consensus is that they are all 1-2 year developmental projects.

I don't know nothing about cap space. But knowing Glennon is semi-proven, do you think he is better option than drafting QB in round 1? Or Palmer coming back and the $ he wants, he's no longer an option?

Cousins looks way too erratic to me. Stanton for the last 2 years has looked like the reincarnation of Derek Anderson - impossible to know where his passes are headed, other than not to the intended receiver, and almost always too high.

I'd draft somebody and roll the dice. Jimmy G looks good but not good enough to throw all kinds of top picks and cash at. Tried that with Kolb, where did that get them? McCarron? Not an NFL starter.

BA has stated clearly on several occasions that if you draft a QB high then you are obligated to put them on the field and let them learn....I don't see BA being behind drafting a QB in the first two rounds as long as Palmer is willing to strap on the cleats

yes ... but BA says a lot of things. Things that change as soon as the situation does

if he is willing to let Nkemdiche sit for a year, he will let a rookie QB sit behind Palmer

Totally agree. Keim knows he needs to get a replacement for Palmer. Palmer will still be the starter this year.

It was a while ago but I read somewhere that NE likes Jacoby Brisset better long term than Garopplollo. That tells me something right there and why, if anybody is dumb enough to offer up a #1 for him, that he'll be gone.

If JG was the backup for say, Cleveland, and put up similar numbers, people would be skeptical and not be offering up a #1 for him. In fact, look up Cody Kessler's numbers this year. They were very good and he was a rookie playing with much less talent around him. Why isn't anybody clamoring for him?

Kessler completed 65.6% 1580 yards 6TD 2INT and a 92.3 rating yet people in Cleveland want them to trade a #1 for JG. Makes no sense at all, which is why the Browns will probably do it.

College football is a load of steaming crap now if you are looking for a QB who is what the NFL needs, and this is not not going to change. Hence, the Cards need to draft a QB early now and if they think then they cannot shape him for the NFL after a season, draft another next year or two... it sucks but so is the fate of a team without a future QB
So-o...you're saying we should use our #13 to grab the best available QB from the proverbial pile of steaming crap? Hmm. Sounds like something the Browns might do.

PS How are things in SA? One of my favorite places to visit.

Great post.

I have heard that the Pats are talking up Brissett...but that's what they do to appease the fans, because Jimmy G. is very popular in NE.

I think Shanahan will win the trade battle for Garoppolo (Pick #34 and their 2018 2nd round pick) and that the Browns will wind up with Tyrod Taylor (good fit for Hue Jackson---but I think your point about Cody Kessler is outstanding). The Bears draft Deshaun Watson. The Jets sign Mike Glennon. The Broncos trade for Tony Romo.

Who cares what he's stated? They drafted an OT and literally redshirted him for an entire year, so they can damn well groom a QB for a year.

Can you guys actually let the upcoming draft QBs play a NFL game before you compare them to a QB that has already played an NFL game?

I like Cody Kessler. Watched him play in a few Browns games last year. He was hurt for a while.
I would give Kessler a shot, if the Brown are intent on replacing him. He did more, with less, than ithwr rookie and veteran qbs last year.

That being said. Tyrod Taylor is still my favorite choice. Heard a great interview about him this morning on NFL radio...said he lives football 24/7...and is absolutely dedicated to continuing to get better and be a great QB.

Yup, because steaming crap is about all you are going to get in the drafts to come. Yes, every year before we hear about how much better the QBs will be next time and they end up being steaming crap once we get to the draft. By steaming crap, I mean the impression of developmental projects due to college football and how they play the QB position. Now, I am not saying the first round but I would not wait past the second. If Kizer was to slip to the second and we would not pull the trigger, then this team is in denial about their QB future in my opinion... and San Antonio is good, the weather is great at the moment but we have a cold front that is going to push in but we also have great warm food here to counter :)

Yeah, if Kizer falls to the 2nd Rd. I could see them trading up some to grab him. Maybe Mahomes as well. They need to get someone up and running this year. Their FA period will be critical this season to be able to pull that trigger.

I don't understand all this focus on JG getting hurt after 2 games and that makes him injury prone yet giving HB a long term contract after all his injuries was okay?????

The more I look at Mocks the more I think we need to nab a QBOF this year because I think Carson is done after this year. Watson might be worth the risk but I don't see any sure things at 13. Garoppolo makes too much sense here because we get him for a year under his rookie deal (1.1M Cap) and can learn BA's system. We can save some cap by releasing Stanton (2M dead Money).

I would be all over that. Get the QBOF in place now, but a 3 year veteran who is already NFL savvy is far better than rolling the dice on any of the QBs in this draft. Plus, if it were me, in order to save Carson Palmer, I would play Jimmy Garoppolo some this season. I think deflate gate was a blessing in disguise for the Patriots. Tom Brady looked the freshest down the stretch as he has in years. With Garoppolo you have to love the quick reads, the footwork and the accuracy.

What do you guys think of the Pitt QB Nathan Peterman? Seems to make the throws that BA likes in his offense. Seems to be a popular riser at the senior bowl.
