Theo's only gone from Boston for two weeks and they're already dumping his farm system for vets.

I don't see how Beckett is a vet

But he is very injury prone

True, but look at it from Boston's point of view. They need a #1 pitcher (which they get in Beckett even if he is injury prone) and they have a SS who is a mainstay for the next few years (who isn't old). So it is logical that they trade their top prospect for pitching help (which they lack) when that player only plays a roster spot which is already filled.

Totally agree. The only problem with Beckett is he has reoccuring blister problems that noone can figure out, even hand specialists. If Lowell and Schilling can return to their old form, they could have a tough team. I agree that Ramirez is not a big loss at all. Renteria is there for 3 more years and they have SS/2B Dustin Pedroia who is on an absolute tear through their farm system (very similar success so far to that of Stephen Drew. They actually came out of the same draft). He should step in just fine when Renteria is done. This means that Glaus is stayin which I'm fine with. If we would have traded Glaus, I would have loved to sent him to Boston for Pedroia (for future 2B) and some of their farm arms. Imagine that speed- Upton at SS, Pedroia at 2B, and Drew at CF. That would have been fun to watch

Reports are Corey Patterson is being heavily shopped, and could be had for a reasonable price.

What do you guys think about Patterson for CF? I think he's definately a player who needs a change of scenery. At worst he's got the potential to be a .270, 25 HR 90 RBI a year guy.

I feel they got over because they got to keep Papelpon and Pedroia. Gammons said they went from one of the oldest rotations to one of the youngest. They are slated to start Papelpon and Lester along with Beckett for the next six years.

Maybe. Whats his contract?????? He's not worth a big contract so I would stay away if he's too expensive. He's not very good in the field and he strikes out WAY TOO MUCH. He's the type of guy that would be very annoying to have on your team. He's not a leadoff hitter which was proved in Chicago. Would rather see us go after Pierre next offseason

3 million per year.

I'd rather go after Pierre also, but gotta look at other options.

Yeah, you have to look at it. Honestly I'd rather have Rowand from the Sox but that not gonna happen either. You never know, Patterson could do better in PHX where theres not as much pressure. I still think CHI will demand too much for him simply because of all the hype they put into him. Did you say the Mets are hiring? I'm there....

A couple of questions.

One, does anyone think the Marlin's fire sale will extend to Dontrelle Willis?

Two, where are the Mets getting all their money, offering Wagner 11 million a season and are after Delgado, Ramirez, and Molina, in addition to what they already have?

Not a chance the fire sale includes Willis, he is still very cheap for a frontline starter.

You also have to think, Boston has Pedoria in the makings.

He's been highly rated by them. Renteria being a stop-gap and Pedoria as a future SS possible is what my guess is.

Yeah, but he has been seen as more of a 2nd baseman since he doesn't quite have the arm for a SS.

Not that he isn't a solid prospect, because he is and I would more like him on our future team.

No, Willis is staying for at least this year. It was rumored that they were going to extend him but his agent reported that it fell through (ESPN rumor mill). The Mets are getting their money from the new TV network they started. It is similar to the Yankees network, YES. They started getting money from the network last offseason when they signed Pedro, Kris Benson, and others. Now their spending even more- you have to figure their running out

What do you know the two teams I discussed earlier are at it again. Delgado is now a Met. And they got him fairly cheap.

How did the Mets sign Delgado cheap? They offered him 3/33 in the offseason and now they just spent 3/41 the year after and gave up some good prospects... LOL. Great management there.

Wow. He is not worth that type of money... hopefully this does not set the price for relievers on the market... but I bet it just might

Yeah - and Ricciardi isn't normally thought of as all that stupid. Makes me think revenue sharing has gone to their heads. Like they're not spending their own money, so...

Thats a crazy contract. Ryan's a closer who struggled quite often last year. 9.5 mill a year for a pretty avg closer??????? The Blue Jays are denying the reports that this was finalized. Doesn't seem like a Riccardi type signing

"..And in this corner.."

Devilfan02;
Justin Upton will not play a day on the D-Backs at SS since we have Stephen Drew SS, who is MUCH further ahead Offensively, Maturity-wise[Upton is 18-19, Drew is 22-23], experience-wise and especially Defensively!! Scouts from Baseball America have said that Upton is the D-Backs CF of the future[ one said Upton's all-around talent reminded him of Ken Griffey Jr.]If we could get 3/4 of KG Jr. with none of his injury problems, I'm in 7th heaven!!
The same article said Stephen Drew was a good bet to be starting SS sometime next year for the D-Backs, if not on opening day, sometime "Early in the year." I'm not dissing on JUpton, but the D-Backs are going to play them where they fit best..
No one ever answered me about getting a review of the talent we got in this 2005 draft.. I know we picked alot of pitchers, do any of you learned HUMAN BEINGS know where we could get some in-depth info on our '05 draft picks?? I'd greatly appreciate it!!
