Bettcher is a trumped up gym teacher who does nothing to elevate the defensive unit on a weekly basis.

The issue is we don't have a true edge pass rusher in 2015, they say.

We trade for Chandler Jones prior to the 2016 season.

The issue in 2016 was leadership, they say.

They let go of DJ Swearinger.

They bring in Antoine Bethea.

Ever since Todd left, there has always been some reason the defense has not reached it's potential. Maybe the issue is with the guy who can't coach up any player who isn't an All Pro level talent. Bettcher holds this unit/team back by not being able to coach up and develop players. Only one drafted defensive player on this defense has improved since Bettcher has been the coordinator, and that Markus Golden. Other than that, it is no development or regression.

Justin Bethel...earned an extension in 2015, and has not gotten worse since.
Baker...can't get on the field.
Reddick...a non-factor to this point.
Some DL drafted in round 1...can't even think of that guy's name.
Rodney Gunter...can't start over Josh Mauro.
Brandon Williams...nope.
Shaquille Riddick...nope.

Hell, under Bettcher, Bucannon has regressed.
Ed Stinson, gone.
Kareem Martin...pretty much the same guy.

Wouldn't some or more of the blame be on the position coaches?

Why we never hired someone like Wade Phillips after Bowles left still boggles my mind. But then again, I'm reminded of the stink that is nepotism across the team and its millions of "coaches". Like it or not, we're stuck with Bettcher unless BA retires

Haven't the Cards fielded a top 10 defense the past few years? I'm neutral on Bettcher but they did lose a lot from last year's defense.

I guess we can say the defense has never been the same since Kevin Minter left .
