MB said about the HC search that he wasn't going to focus strictly on what side of the ball the best candidate would come from---that what he was looking for was a coach who embodies three things: leadership, holding people accountable and performance.

It is clear that he is focused on the offensive side of the ball---which is fine---if he makes that clear, especially to Ray Horton, whom he has left twisting and writhing in the wind.

But even worse---doesn't it seem readily apparent that Ray Horton fits the criteria to a tee:

Leadership?

How about motivating a once hapless and pathetic defense to play harder than it ever has despite a dispiriting and demoralizing 1-6 start---? That's when players usually throw in the towel, especially in Arizona.

How about creating an identity on defense that the Cardinal haven't seen in ages---certainly not one this aggressive, this energetic and this creative.

Holding People Accountable?

Think it was easy for Horton to stand up to revered Cardinal veterans such as Adrian Wilson and Darnell Dockett?

How about the job Horton has done with Kerry Rhodes whom Horton held to far higher standards than the previous defensive coaches?

How about the standards Horton has set for Calais Campbell and Daryl Washington? Patrick Peterson? We are looking at 3 absolute stars in the making.

Performance?

Stifling the likes of Tom Brady and Matt Ryan---both at their own home stadiums???

Some people say, yeah, but what about the 58-0 Seattle disgrace?

To me that one was a reaction to CKW's quitting on the team and the defense in NYC---and all the commotion and excessive penalties over Darnell Dockett's refusal to "lay down."

This became even more clearer to me the next week when Dockett went to Horton and said we are ready to get after the Lions---and boy oh boy were they---they once again stifled a very good QB in Matthew Stafford and basically won the game all on their own.

Has a Cardinal defense ever been more aggressive or creative---OR FUN TO WATCH?

Ray Horton is by far the most special thing that has happened to the Cardinals since Kurt Warner.

Ray Horton deserves the HC job---no one deserves it more, or fits MB's own HC criteria better...we have witnessed all of it first hand---Horton has accomplished everything with OUR own players who value and trust him and even identify with him---and best of all, they play their tails off for him with energy and an exhilarating sense of excitement.

I like Bevell and Arians---but---I don't see either one of them motivating the Cardinals out from the cellar of the NFC West the way Ray Horton can.

What in the h-- is wrong with our people at the top? If Horton is not to get the job they should tell him right off the bat. These people need to take some courses in people skills and how to win friends and influence people. Once again our team is made to look like total idiots. I can only imagine how Ray Horton must feel. Where he would make a good HC or not has nothing to do with how they have treated him. To say the best about the Bidwills in this event is to say they s---. I do not blame Beenie and some of the other guys who want out of here.

Due to all of the sky is falling posts regarding the coaching search, this bay deserves a big time BUMP. People need to settle down and let it play out. Reality is no one on this board is interviewing anyone. The Cards under Mike Bidwill have proven they can hire a successful coach. Maybe we can pass judgement after the new coach actually coaches a game.

Azsouthendzone hath spoken! Mods, shut down the board until September because we shouldn't make judgements until the new coach actually coaches a game.

These kind of posts always make me chuckle. You do realize that a Cardinals message board is a place Cardinals fans go to talk about everything Cardinals related, right?

Discussion is fine. The emo level hyperbole can be a bit much

I know this may sound crazy, but I still believe Horton deserved the job. I felt he was that good. Who knows what would have happened had Horton gotten the job. Maybe we would have won more than one playoff game in 5 years. Horton left Arians and Bowles a lot to work with on defense. Maybe instead of Carson Palmer, Horton and Keim would have drafted a QBOF and we wouldn't be in the QB doldrums we are today.

However, when Horton didn't get the job, he practically made a fool of himself on AZ radio afterward. I had heard him talk at press conferences over a hundred times and was enamored with the story of how he gave his prize antique car to a kitchen employee when he left Pittsburgh and I was always impressed with his character and level or articulation---and yet, the way he handled the disappointment of not getting the HC job, it was almost pitiful. It was so hard to listen to. But---he sounded like a man who had just realized his greatest dream would never come true---which was sad---because, in truth, it was the closest he ever came to becoming an NFL HC. It reminds me of the Langston Hughes poem "Dream Deferred"...."What happens to a dream deferred?"...and the haunting last line: "Or does it---explode!"

So would you be fine with him getting the job now?

It’s great that we have this forum & can put our 2 cents in on who Michael should hire. Michael has proven to me that he can make good decisions, so I’ll be fine with whoever he chooses, even if it’s Bettcher.
