I do think the Cards will draft a qb. BA has said that there are a lot of good size, big arm qbs that will be available after the first round. My concern is that too many of them remind me of Logan Thomas and this really scares me from having the Cards draft one. Cardale Jones, Jacoby Brissett, Nate Sudfeld, Jeff Driskel all have size and big arms. Some should be avaialbe in rounds 3 to 6 when we pick. Will any of these really be any better than Logan Thomas???

Yes, a couple will me much better. But the real question is, is does much better than Logan Thomas mean good enough to be a quality starter in the NFL? Not sure it does.

It should be interesting to see what BA&SK learned about the Logan Thomas scenario. What baffles me is why they made the trade for Matt Barkley. Not only did they cut LT to make room for MB---now they want to draft a new QB. And if they draft one, they can't cut him, right? Which means in two years they lose out on Thomas (4th Round pick), Barkley (4th Round pick) and a 7th round pick in the trade.

Mind boggling!

But like others here say so what we're not gonna draft a player that can play anyway. (I've heard that numerous times). The Cards have found sum gems & talented players from 3-7, this I don't get the throwing away of a pic either Mitch.

I think Matt Barkley was traded as insurance for last year to try an avoid another QB injury debacle. I think we only lose a 7th rd pick for Barkley.

Logan Thomas was a gamble as are most draft picks. The hit rate on drafting players, especially QB's is very low. I don't think you can compare players to other players. Logan Thomas, Jamarcus Russell, and all other QB's have no bearing on another player.

With that being said, if there is a QB that BASK feels confident could be the QBOF, I think they should draft them. Sitting behind Palmer (and Stanton)for a couple of years is a luxury we can afford.

I really believe Conner Cook is the most underrated QB in this draft. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cardinals take him in rd 1 or trade down with a team that takes him.

Wentz, Goff, Lynch, and Cook are no sure things and they all have risk. Everyone after that is not only a long term project but the risk of failure gets much higher. I would say Cardale Jones is the best gamble after the top 4 but he is a gamble.

If they felt Barkley was good insurance last year for the QB debacle in 2014, why isn't he this year?

Plus, does anyone really believe that in 3 year's time BA would go with an untested 3rd year QB?

If the Cardinals do draft a QB it's for Drew Stanton's eventual replacement, not Carson Palmer's.

BA has said it himself---a QB can't grow from sitting. He can only grow from playing. BA doesn't have the patience to groom a QB for a few years---it's not his style. He is more apt to start a rookie 1st rounder in two years than to start the 4th round project he drafted two years ago.

Everything I have read about Cook is you get what you see. He is pretty much at his ceiling coming out of college and there isn't much upside.

I would imagine he is in the absence of a QBOF. If you have the chance to get a guy that can replace Barkley this year, Stanton next year, and Palmer after that....you make it happen.

I normally would agree, but this QB class, even at the top, is real iffy.

Does anyone really think that, for example, Cardale Jones could sit another two years and suddenly be the Cardinals' QBOF? That would mean he had only played in 11 football games in 5 years and yet he would be prepared to take over the #1 QB role?

It's a testament to how far the Cards have come as an organization that there is so much strum and drang over the possible dispensation of a 4th round pick. It's not that big a deal.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that BA&SK want to show their hand about coveting QB in this draft so that they get some trade action at #29 from teams who want to move up to take a QB. Ideally, they make a trade with the Broncos, add their 3rd rounder (they have a 3rd round comp pick which make it easier for them to trade their regular 3rd rounder) and still be able to make a pick in the first round.

The timing of wanting to draft a QB is not right---not with both Palmer and Stanton having 2 years remaining on their deals and with Matt Barkley still on the roster at a nominal salary.

I agree with all of this. I'm not sure that Lynch gets to 29 but maybe Cook will and then hopefully someone is desperate enough to trade up for him. Thing is wouldn't they want to trade with the Chiefs or Packers if they believe we want a QB?

I wonder whether they got wind of the Broncos' potential interest in Cardale Jones, which is why they let the world know they and the Chiefs were going to work Jones out for a second time.

I don't get how that changes my concern that the QB hungry team will just trade up ahead of us.

It should only be a concern if the Cardinals actually want a QB that high. Otherwise, trading in front of them does them a favor.

The Cards and Broncos have done a great job in creating enough ambiguity about what they plan on doing with their picks that it's feasible that someone either trades in front of or with AZ for the #29 pick to grab that QB.

The fact that there has been a rash of trades to get QBs at the top spot has created a sense of urgency for teams with QB issues to do whatever is possible to grab one of the QBs, even if they frankly don't deserve to be pick in the first round.

Don't be surprised if they try to snag Kevin Hogan from Stanford. Projected as a mid-to-late round pick, his stock has been on the rise of late. He's got the smarts & leadership skills that the Cards (wisely) covet.

the more teams that trade in front of us for a QB...the more top notch defenders fall to us..

I am good with that.

Of all the QBs the Cardinals can get I agree with you... I would actually luv the Cardinals draft him as early as the fourth round :)

Who really thinks BA will be here in 3 years? Seriously? He's said multiple times that his road will end with Palmer's. He's old and retiring soon. We are going for broke these next few years, will lose 10-14 games our first year without them and draft our hopeful franchise quarterback then IMO.

I thought I remembered BA saying he'd like to draft a low(er) round QB every year until he finds one that sticks. I have no problem with this philosophy. The chances of finding a keeper may be small but, for that position, I think it's worth it to keep cycling through potential candidates before it becomes an emergency. When it becomes urgent, then you need to either invest a high 1 or invest big in free agency or trade.
Sounds like Barkley got the 1 year try out and failed to impress. Time to throw another one against the wall.

When did he say that? He just signed a big contract extension, I thought.
