I think acquisitions will be tough for FB due to anti-trust concerns.
Maybe. But that stuff can easily be skirted from the mega corps... especially in the future when the heat gets off em a bit. IMO.

Yeah... old people.

FB is a joke to the youth. And youth drive stuff like that. Rebranding with a new name isn’t gonna help

It’s going to be the next MySpace unless they really pivot.

I think the rebranding was more for recruiting. I've read that FB has to pay a premium to attract talent due to their reputation. Trying extend the public consciousness of the brand beyond Facebook was a good idea in my opinion. Whether it works remains to be seen.

They either pay a premium for talent or they get kids that don't know better yet. Myself and most of the guys I know won't even give them a look even though their recruiters hit us up weekly. I literally have a 3.5x multiplier on number I'll give them vs what I'm making now. The rebranding isn't going to change that for myself or most of the guys I know.

While Facebook is the worst for that, big tech in general has it a problem. I just switched jobs and at least 10 other guys I know have too in the last 6 months.. None of us applied to or even looked at any MAGA openings. Amazon flat out has a bad rep to work for them. Then for all of them the problem starts right from the interview process. The way they have it set up makes a lot, if not most, senior devs say "Screw it, it's not worth the interview headache. I can go with a smaller company that pays as well, is good to work for, and I don't have to jump through hoops to get hired."

I believe you. I would avoid these companies too.

But just from pure optics, would you rather tell people you work for Burger King or Restaurant Brands International?

Probably the latter but I wouldn't have a huge issue with saying BK because I'd preface it with my what I do. It'd be "I'm the lead mobile dev for Burger King" not just "Burger King".

I probably wouldn't apply to either though since I don't find their space interesting. With the way the market is for talent right now I was able to pick and choose who I applied for based on if I liked their problem space, mission statement, etc. Both of my finalist looked like they could have positive impacts while still offering me the same money and perks as the other companies.

Another strong Friday rally. What's everybody got on their radar right now?

Market sentiment. We're gonna need more overall participation outside of the mega caps. Small caps have me a little nervous.

TDOC. It has been a Cathie Wood favorite and she rode it into the ground -- it's down 75% from its peak -- but Jim Cramer says it's a bargain now. (Edit: Morningstar agrees.) I don't really have any disposable funds at the moment, so I'd have to sell something, and I may not be in the mood to add more speculative growth. But I'm keeping an eye on it.

They interest me as well as DocuSign who was also a pandemic darling. I don't see a barrier to entry for Teladoc competitors. There are a lot of competitors and ultimately insurance companies will be the ones choosing the winner/s if not competing themselves.

In Feb DWAC and Phun

Trumps network is supposed to go live on the 22nd I think or something like that. I expect a big pump and dump. Gonna try and ride that wave and jump out the plane on the way down

Valid criticism is welcome, but I really want to hear posters' ideas regardless of whether I think they are good or bad so I would appreciate less of the usual P&R rhetoric that I realize I engage in there. I want to foster a collaborative group where we can bounce ideas off of each other.

Yeah it always puzzles me when a long-time industry leader has never been profitable, nor has any expectations of being profitable in the foreseeable future. I get that it's fashionable to lose money hand over fist, but eventually a company has to figure out how to turn it around.

Sure, I'm serious about considering any well-established name that's down 75% from its peak. Why wouldn't you? Cramer is a clown, but part of the game is figuring out how public sentiment gets influenced.

Oh I agree this should be a place for us to help each other make money no matter what. Politics and sports can stay over there.

But I can’t take it serious when someone starts off by saying the name Jim Cramer. That guy is a legit crook who needs to be in prison for what he did. He’s proven to be nothing more than a paid hedge fund shill with a god awful track record.

Pretty much mainstream media has been corrupted. I think the place to go is the internet and YouTube these days.

I understand why you would try to catch a short term speculative ride on a MAGA S P A C, but what interests you in a pre-earnings company like PHUN considering the current sentiment and recent performance surrounding those types of stocks? They barely have any revenue either with just $7.3 million over the last 12 months and -$28 million in losses during that same time. Do you know when they expect to be profitable?

S P A C is censored????

It better cool off soon...that's all I'm sayin. Between that and that yield spike today because of that jobs number and the threat of more liquidity being pulled from the fed and markets... interesting dynamics setting up to say the least.

Yeah, $100 may be a tricky number.

Fortunately, I'm not that concerned about receiving your validation. And, as I already explained, I'm more interested in Cramer's influence than I am in whether he's "correct" in some absolute sense. I bet if we put our minds to it, we could come up with some other high-profile frauds who nonetheless have figured out a way to have a big impact.

I think the place to go is the internet and YouTube these days.

Because people who make YouTube videos are more likely to be honest?

I'm sort of holding tight right now. I have the roll over to invest in week or so but I was going to stay fairly safe with it with mostly index/retirement funds but I was thinking of maybe doing like 10k worth of GOOG. I currently don't own any of it individually.

For playing around I might park some more money in IPOF to stick with the s p a c mentions. It's under NAV right now from the market tank the last 2 weeks. Still no DA on it but there's been rumors/speculation that it might be Starlink or SpaceX. If either of those happens then I'd be really happy. I figure I'll give it at least February though. It looks like Elon is going to be on Chammy's podcast in 3 weeks. So if it's going to be either of those companies than right before the pod would good timing.

S P A C is censored????

I thought that had been fixed when I ran into it a few months back. @jf-08 could we get S P A C uncensored please?
