In a van...down by the river.
Finally got to watch the game. While i thought the officiating at the end became suspiciously one-sided, i thought the SUNS blew a couple chances at icing the game.
The refs blew the call on the Nash drive(he was passing out to the top of the key)and got rewarded with 2 FT's. The block which was a charge was a home-town make-up call if i've ever seen one. The call that started it all was the one that concerns me the most. Shaq was clearly HACKED underneath and no call. Look,we've all seen this before. The officiating was pretty good the whole way i thought...until the OT and i can maybe live with a couple home-town calls(although they really piss you off!) but the sad thing is that after watching an evenly hard fought classic battle like that for 4 quarters it comes down the zebras who all of a sudden decide to get involved. I've always said that there aren't enough no-calls in the NBA. I think its easier for the refs to try to call a fair game if they simply decide to "let 'em play" a little more....rather than being so concerned over catching EVERY SINGLE bump, hack & hold.
If the game becomes to physical, just call it real tight for a few minutes and the players will get the message.
Thats just the way i look at it.

The Suns were particularly peeved over three calls in overtime. The worst was a blocking call on Steve Nash which Chauncey Billups turned into a three-point play. It was a tough call. Billups clearly ran over Nash, who was outside the restricted circle. But it seemed Nash was still sliding under Billups when contact occured.
No he wasn’t.

In my opinion, the call was made to even up an equally horrendous call on the previous play. The officials gave Nash two free throws (which put the Suns ahead) when he was clearly passing the ball when he was fouled. It should have been side out. So, the refs evened it up on the other end.
Oh, hell of a makeup. We got two points on what would have been our possession anyway. If you figure a possession is worth one point on average, we benefitted by one point from that bad call.

They got three points on what should have been our possession, so they benefitted by three points.

Yeah, that’s fair.

Looking back, the Suns have always had problems getting calls not going their way. I've been reading ":07 Seconds or Less" (I know it's been out awhile I just haven't had time to read it) and at the part where they are facing the Lakers in the 2006 Playoffs.

Game 3 had a lot of questionable calls (or non-existent), especially the various T's given out for no apparent reason. So I search on YouTube to see what Jack McCallum is talking about (I can't remember that far back) to see what's the deal:

Look, no surprise, our favorite dirty ref Jim Donaghy. Lakers went on to win the game to make the series 2-1.

Go to Game 4; it's overtime, Nash is exhausted, lead is by 1 point (scroll to minute 5:10). Nash gets trapped at the sideline, you can HEAR from just the audio on the film Boris SCREAMING for a timeout (ref is 5 ft away) and no whistle is blown. Lakers went to win for 3-1 in series.

We all know what happened after those games though :D

I'm sure there are more examples in the book (or in the past) but just haven't gotten to them.

I'm not saying that there is some sort of league wide conspiracy against our team but it is kind of funny how it ALWAYS seems to break the other way and even national writers and opponents are recognizing it.

I don't think its us against the world but you can't deny that 99% of calls blatently don't go our way. Who knows if its because of our whining or mentality or what but it DOES happen.

I just don't know why. Maybe shaq brings the good karma with him and we get our mojo going this playoff run. Lord knows you need luck on the way to the title.

Or maybe at the end of the season we are asking ourselves this. Who is more cursed in AZ? The Cards or the Suns?

What I find puzzling is how Grant Hill is suddenly a foul machine. Last couple of games he's piling up the first half fouls. Even Grant looks confused by it.

It certainly doesn't help our case when coach D'Antoni ******* and throws a tantrum whenever a call doesn't go the Suns way. He's probably the biggest "physical" complainer there is. If he was more level headed and not get in the refs ear about it all the time, then maybe, just maybe, they give the Suns the benefit of the doubt.

He's having to guard some tough assignments that Marion usually picked up. What I don't understand our the technicals he's gotten recently. Even the commentators on TNT were puzzled why he got them. He's the most cool and calm player in the NBA today.

The groin injury probably hurts his ability to beat his man to his spot. That leads to blocking fouls and reaching fouls.
