Two signings already in the January window. I don't know much about Henri Saivet, so all I can do is hope he'll work out--we do need midfield help desperately. While the fee for Jonjo Shelvey was astronomical, it is January, and I think he's a fantastic signing. He's young, English, and a proven playmaker in the premier league. He suffered due to the change in manager in Swansea, and I think he'll flourish in Newcastle. So, a little bit of light in the darkness this January.

Now, let's go out and get points against Man U!

Is Mike Dean from effing MANCHESTER? What kind of effing idiotic penalty call is THAT? Are you effing KIDDING ME? We haven't been able to buy a single penalty call all season, and you give THAT EFFING CALL in the NINTH MINUTE? This effing match is FIXED!

Oh, oh, and Fellaini with THREE bad fouls, and he gets...nothing. A final warning. An effing finger wagging and 'no more' motion. What an effing joke Mike Dean is. What an EFFING JOKE.

He's finally getting some right calls. Fellaini gets his yellow on the fourth bad foul, and a yellow on a clear bad foul outside the box. Let's score here!

Hey, Mike Dean, if you're going to give bogus penalties, then where's our call? It was no penalty--barely--when Janmaat went down, but it was just as much a penalty as the decision against Mbemba. So where the hell's our bogus penalty call?

Fair play to the ref on the Tiote yellow--he's always good for one of those--and he settle in in the second part of the first half--but the ref was hideous against Newcastle early. Aside from the terrible penalty call, Felllaini pretty much had to murder the ref's mother to FINALLY get a yellow card.

I mean, we were in control of the ball, and the first time down the field for Man U, they get handed a 1-0 lead. Took us twenty minutes to get back into the game, after that hideous, unfair blow. Great second goal for Man U, fair play to them, and great first goal for Gini for us. This should be a 1-1 game or, more than likely IMO, we should be winning. Newcastle were bossing the game when the ref absolutely hosed us.

Let's hope the ref continues settling into the game, and at the least doesn't screw us over more. It sure would be nice to get a penalty called FOR Newcastle once in a while--or, how about, once in a frickin' SEASON!

Smalling thinks it's American football, and he's a nose tackle. Good call by Dean, making up for the earlier one to an extent. Mitrovic puts it away. Now let's go get the winner!

Didn't nab the winner, but Dummett finally did something right and got us the equalizer late on. A cracking game--still miffed about the call early and the extreme kindness shown to Fellaini--but I am well pleased with the result. I'll take the point. If we play like this, we can stay up. Question is, can we play well consistently? So far, the answer's no.

Massive, massive three points. West Ham had very little in this game. We handed them their only goal. Magpies could have had five or six on the board in the first half alone. Final shot stats? 23 shots, 10 on target for Newcastle, 10 shots, 3 on target for West Ham--one of which was a gift goal on a terrible back pass. And, for once, we weren't outpossessed by our opponent!

Man, what a fantastic bit of business was the Shelvey signing. Vital to both goals, and did really well creating a ton more chances. Aside from our defensive frailties, midfield creativity was the biggest miss for us, and Shelvey brings that in spades. I mean, we didn't have to just work the right flank with Sissokho and Janmaat all game--we actually had offense all over the pitch.

Out of the drop zone and improving. Whew!

I selected Newcastle in a 5 team parlay. I just need Liverpool to beat Man U and Benfica to win in the Champions League next month. (others were Tottenham and Man City)

They should win that fixture.

Lost the Liverpool match anyway. Horrible at set piece defense, yet again. So many goals given away on poor set piece defense.

They dominated the game, the shots, the chances, but still lose the game.

Weirdly enough, I'm watching the last fifteen minutes of the replay now. Sorry you didn't win that one. I'd much rather Liverpool won than Man U.

Freakin' Swansea wins. Argh.

Jeez, I want to throttle McClaren right now. Newcastle put in an embarrassing display against Everton, and it turns out it was largely McClaren's fault. His tactics in that game? LET Everton have the ball as much as they want, and simply hit them on the break. That's right, pure negative tactics--just LET the opponent HAVE the ball. Ugh!

Need the win v West Brom so very desperately.

I am having a hard time deciding who I want to go down this year. It will be really sad to see Aston Villa go down.

I'll be glad to see them go. Used to like them until they cheered and mocked us when they sent us down. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of fans.

I used to want to see Sunderland stay up every season, so there'd always be good Northeast soccer derbies. Now I just want to make sure there's someone below Newcastle! lol

Huge, huge win to claw out of the drop zone. Of course, even with the 19 shots to West Brom's 7, and 7 shots on target to their 0, we could only manage one goal, and I had to sweat the whole way. Still and all, I will TAKE it.

Seriously, if Leicester City beats Arsenal on the weekend, I have them pegged as the champions. They're, what, five points clear now? They've just been awesome to watch. Tottenham have been brilliant too, with form that might keep them in the title race.

Newcastle finally got out of the drop zone last week--by 1 point, but still, progress is progress. Made some nice buys this winter transfer window, and should have the quality to stay up and build on it for next year. Right now Villa's about a lock to go down--good riddance to those wankers--and a lot of folks are saying Norwich and Sunderland will probably go with them. Still time for all the teams at the bottom, except Villa, really, to dig themselves out of it. Newcastle aren't safe, not by a long shot, but I'm hoping they string together some results to get there ASAP. I don't want it going down to the last game...AGAIN!

It is still too early to peg them as champions. Liverpool lost an 8 point lead with 5 games to go a couple years ago. :bang: Leicester is for real, but I wouldn't crown their asses yet, even with a win vs Arsenal.

If they beat Arsenal and Tottenham slip up...yeah, you're right, it's too early to crown them, but man, do I want to :)

And Newcastle...ugh. I really hate being a Newcastle fan sometimes.

McClaren FINALLY sacked. Looks like it's Benitez to replace him, and not as head coach--as a real, honest-to-goodness manager. It's a step in the right direction, and what the team needs--if only he can save them from the drop.
