McClaren FINALLY sacked. Looks like it's Benitez to replace him, and not as head coach--as a real, honest-to-goodness manager. It's a step in the right direction, and what the team needs--if only he can save them from the drop.

Just in time to beat Leicester and make the title race interesting. Here's to him saving you from the drop.

I'll go on record and say that, in the extremely unlikely event we do that, we will 100 percent stay up. Heck, I'd slay entire villages to get just a point in Monday's game!

Within an hour of his appointment, Benitez called the players back from their day off for training. I have a feeling that accountability will begin and certain players with a penchant for lack of effort will be dropped. Here's hoping for a good run-in and another Premier League season.

The season has been crazy enough already that I wouldn't rule it out. I imagine players will be a little more amped to make an impression on the new manager, no?

I think so. Calling them in on their day off sends exactly the right impression on them, I think.

Oh Lord, I am sick to my stomach to think that this match kicks off in little more than half an hour. Oh man, please give the Mags victory today. It is a must win. Please!

I'm glad I don't have a sister, because this result would be like kissing her. I think the Mags needed the result more. Still, with us waiting so long for the equalizer, I'll take the draw.

Man, Allardyce is really shooting Sunderland in the foot with his poor substitutions. Parked the bus in the 2nd half when they were on the front foot the whole 1st half, subbed out the defensive midfielder winning all the battles, and dropped more points. Four points dropped in two games, with the same sub being pointed to as the reason in both games.

Now the Mags really have a tough time of it--but it would have been pretty much done and dusted had they lost.

Watched this game. Thought Sunderland had this game who I thought played. Allardyce's substitutions did not make a bit of sense. Mitrovic should have scored in the first half and really did not hear much from him the rest of the game until he scored the equalizer. But that play was made by the guy who crossed it. He was the reason for it.

At least your team is still in the Premiere league. My team Fulham is one point from relegation out of the Championship division. We keep drawing or losing games by one goal. Only thing they have going for them is their goal differential is -7. Everybody else above them or below them is at -15 or so. So we are scoring.

Sooooo glad I have friends from out of town and can't watch the game tomorrow. God, it's the nightmare 6-pointer from hell. A must win if there ever was a must win game.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaby!

I hate that I had to root for the rivals, but today was the best possible combination of results for Newcastle. Sunderland thrash Norwich, and we thrash Swansea--though it was nervy in the second half. We close goal differential by SIX against the Canaries, too. Hell, there's a chance we'll be out of the drop zone this week. Not likely but, what with the situation coming into today, a frickin' dream scenario!

Heroic effort from the entire team today. Gutted that the linesman completely screwed the pooch and absolutely cheated Newcastle of the clean sheet and the victory. It is 100 percent inexcusable not to pick out a goal scorer who is TWO YARDS offside on a free kick--the linesman lines up in the perfect spot for these, and it wasn't anywhere near close. Newcastle should be out of the drop zone and in a safe position today. As it is, the Mags have a ton of momentum and are set up well for the run-in.

OMFG, I swear, if we get relegated because of that bull crap, I will explode.

Who are the Magpies remaining games against? They are playing better as of late.

A mixed bag. The game at Liverpool is going to be really tough, and the final against Tottenham, though at home, might be well-nigh unwinnable if they are still fighting for the title. So that's two really tough fixtures.

On the other hand, we have two really easy ones. If we can't put 3 in the bag at Villa, we deserve to be relegated, and if we can't beat Palace at home, I feel the same.

I know Norwich has an incredibly difficult run-in, and we can catch them on GD. I think Sunderland's is more difficult than hours, and we're only a point behind them. I'm thinking if we can manage between 7-9 points, we should be able to stay up. Just eke out a draw v Liverpool or Tottenham (might be a meaningless game for them by the end of the season) and win the games we should win, and it could be enough. I hope lol

I only got to watch the 1st half of the Liverpool game today, but wow! Rafa coming back to Anfield and getting a much needed point like that has to feel good.

I am super pleased I didn't have a chance to watch this one--especially the first half! We got the point we needed with a 2nd-half performance we can build on. Well, we really needed all three points, but haven't won there in something like 20 years. If we take care of business against Palace at home and at woeful Villa, and if the results run right, hopefully we won't need anything from that last home game against Spurs.

The first half was dominant. But Liverpool found some inconsistency in the second half. They left the game way too stretched after Cisse scored from basically nothing. I think they struggled from a bit of fatigue and tried to rest Coutinho for this game and it backfired. This game could have put us within 2 of Man U so it should have been important, but finishing off the Europa League is more important now. I get that.

I still see you guys going down with the Sunderland draw vs Arsenal.

At this point, I see us winning at home to Palace and away to Villa. If Spurs don't have a shot on the title the last game, we might just beat them. Three wins sees us stay up, IMO, while a draw or loss to Spurs might not be enough.

It is a long shot for New Castle to stay up but they are playing a lot better as a draw against Liverpool in Anfield illustrates.

Yeah, still a long shot. We need other results to go our way. Man, if we go down because of that ridiculous non-call on the Man City goal--TWO YARDS offside--I'll be upset.

If you go down, much the same as us, it will be the turgid dig sh*te you served up for 6 months, not an offside call. Just saying.

Well, yeah, duh lol Also the moronic hiring of McClaren, as it turned out, not firing him when we should have, and Carr's inept scouting/signing suggestions. I mean, had we fired McClaren before the big break and trip to Spain and brought in Benitez then, I don't think there's a soccer person out there who doubts we wouldn't be in the drop zone now. Problem is, there's every chance it's too little too late now.

Massive, massive win. What a stunner from Townsend, and what a heart in throat moment with the penalty save. The Sunderland late equalizer sucks, but we're, for now, temporarily out of the drop zone. And we have Villa next week!
