I think Hightower and Wells will make a nice rotation at running back. I can see them punish an opposing defense over the course of a game with the combination of speed and power.

We took the best value at 31 and it happened to be a need. I think it's a fantastic pick. And then Cody Brown in the 2nd ... I'm a very happy guy. Let's add Vekuine in the 3rd and make me giddy.

Cant say thats the case. If it was it wouldnt have taken them 11 minutes to make the pick with a 10 minute time limit. They would have ran to the podium. They were mulling their decision obviously.

Again, as I said earlier I didn't have the pleasure of watching this pick live, but this easily could have just been Whis, Graves and Bidwill sitting around a room going out of their minds!

Graves: "Coach, Wells just fell to us at #31!"

Bidwill: "Who?"

Whis: "No way..."

Graves: "Coach, Beanie-F***ing-Wells just fell to us at #31!"

Bidwill: "Beam me who?"

Whis: "No way!"

Graves: "Coach, Beanie-I rush 1200 yards in 10 games-I'm 6'2 240lbs and I can run a 40 in under 4.5-get in my way and I am going to stiff arm you so hard that your mamma feels it-Mother F***ing-Wells just fell to us at #31!"

Bidwill: "I'm confused..."

Whis: "NO WAY!!!"

This could have gone on for ten minutes without breaking a sweat - hell, I'm just glad they got the pick in on time! Mark my words gentlemen, this one's going to be a pick we remember!

"Beanie-Mother F***ing-Wells!"

"No way!"

This is a fantastic pick for the Cards. He will absolutely explode in a spread offense. The Cards have a truly unstoppable offense now. Especially if we keep Boldin. I like the Cody Brown pick as well, even though I wish they had moved up to get Barwin.

So the video of him smiling and shaking his head while he was on the phone with 5 minutes still on the clock with the Titans was special effects?

Must have been. You arr telling me it's a forgone conclusion he was the pick with 5 minutes to go with titans selection. Yet took cards all 10 of their minutes to get it to the podium? Not buying it.

I was fooled. I thought for sure he was the Titan's pick and was trying to figure out why they would take a RB. After the fact, it's quite obvious to me that he was on the phone with Cards. I think we made an excellent value pick for a need. It doesn't get better than that at 31. Who would have you picked?

Boooo was initial reaction. I'm cool with it. Other post is self explanatory and has nothing to do with pick. But with wether or not it was a slamdunk pick for cards brass.

Just because it took 10 minutes on TV doesn't mean it took 10 minutes. The Patriots were "twittering" their draft and broke their trade with the Ravens a full 3 minutes before it was on TV.

Urban even mentions the phone call on his blog...

ESPN showed RB Beanie Wells on the phone on the pick before the Cards (Tennessee) and the Titans took WR Kenny Britt. It would be an upset if it turned out the Cards weren't talking to Wells and didn't take him in the first round.

I was brought up hating OSU and have rooted against the Buckeyes every chance I have had the past 25 years (my dad claims I was rooting against them from the day I was born). But what I will say about Beanie is that I really like how he puts his foot in the ground when he gets the ball and gets up the field. That is the main difference between him and Hightower. He knows where the play goes, and he runs the ball to the hole and trusts that the linemen will do their job. If he can stay healthy and develop a little chip on his shoulder to prove all the teams that passed on him wrong, I think we could have just drafted our back for the foreseeable future.

For who was on the board at the spot, I felt he had the best upside and fit best with our needs of anyone out there. English would have been nice if he fell, Barwin seemed like too much a project, Sintum would have been a bit of a reach, and the centers wouldn't have the upside that Beanie offers. Hopefully Beanie will be able to get me past my hatred of Buckeyes, cause if he does we are gonna have a SCARY offense next year.

Same here. The Titans were still on the clock while Wells was on the phone appearing elated about being drafted. He had to be talking to the Cardinals.

i was sitting at a restaraunt wathcing this unfold and had my wife go out to get her laptop to start this thread. Un-freakin' believeable that he was there. For soem reason the drinks starting going down alot faster after pick 31.

For the he's soft or runs out of bounds people, ask LSU and all their highly ranked defensive players if he's soft. The thing you have to like best about him is that he tore it up in the biggest games.
2007:
PSU-25 FOR 133
WISC-21 FOR 169 3TD'S
MICH-39 FOR 222 2 TD'S
LSU-20 FOR 146 1 TD
2008:
WISC-22 FOR 168 1 TD
MICH- 15 FOR 134 1TD
TEX-16 FOR 106

It's amazing that the Cards may have drafted the OROY at 31. I may never bash Rod Graves again. It's funny though, i thought Wells and Brown may both still be there and told my wife that if they took Brown over Wells that i refused to attend a game this year. Thankfully, that didn't happen. Plus, it could have been expensive.I posted early in the day that if Wells went in round 2 that i'd buy every Card fan at the Chicago game a beer.Whew  :stick::fans:

this is kind of like Steven Jackson falling in the Rams laps a few years ago. Another thing to remember is that OSU had a pretty lousy offensive line. This guy is the best, and most talented, RB that has played at OSU. He has Eddie George size and Robert Smith speed.

Chris Wells + keeping Anquan Boldin and hopefully extending him = another top 5 offense. The reality that the other dynamic offense in New Orleans was trying to trade up for Beanie just drives home the point that this guy has a chance to be fantastic in a passing-oriented offense. I'm ONE happy camper.

The only bad thing is that traditionally Ohio State doesn't have graduation until June so Beanie won't be able to join the Cardinals until very, very late. Hopefully he gets signed in a timely manner so he doesn't miss any training camp.

meh.

Beanie is a really bad name for an adult. Sort of like Beano Cook. The ten minute wait struck me as the Cards were trying to trade down or still do a Boldin deal and that pick might have been the sweetener. Big 10 backs haven't had a god rep in the NFL for quite awhile. It is a slow conference. He fell because 30 teams passed on him and ended up the 3rd back taken.

Best wishes Chris Wells.

P S. I liked Shon Green better, but he is also Big 10.

You are freaking insane. There is NO better value pick on the board than Wells.

Whatever Shane. Really...great freaking pick...and we are lucky to get him.

Couldn't agree more, and as far as making the pick late. They would be stupid to run to the stage with it. They were probably on the phone with other teams wanting that pick. Even if you've made up your mind it doesn't hurt to listen to offers.

Just to add another thing Mel's big board had Wells as best available for about 10 picks before we got him. A great value pick, does that mean he's a can't miss???? NO, but he was the BPA as best as anyone can figure.
