Having a good stiff arm =/= Beanie Well is not soft.

Try again.

Hes really not soft. Your just watching the one clip I already referenced. I defy you to find another piece of information or clip that displays that he is "soft".

Your reaching.

meh.

Beanie is a really bad name for an adult. Sort of like Beano Cook. The ten minute wait struck me as the Cards were trying to trade down or still do a Boldin deal and that pick might have been the sweetener. Big 10 backs haven't had a god rep in the NFL for quite awhile. It is a slow conference. He fell because 30 teams passed on him and ended up the 3rd back taken.

Best wishes Chris Wells.

P S. I liked Shon Green better, but he is also Big 10.

Talk about superficial insight. So the fact that it has been referenced 5 or so time in this thread thta he was talking to the Cardinals DURING THE TITANS PICK and the fact that he ran in the 4.3's is just totally inconsequential to you? And its been dtailed over and over why he fell. It certainly isn't talent or production. Not many teams were looking to draft RB in this draft.

And the Big 10 backs thing is getting old. You don't draft Shonn Green for that reason not Beanie Wells. The Big 10 backs you are referencing are Dayne and Enis I would imagine and Greene runs more like them then Wells. Big staright line runners who get yards because of big OL's and slow defenses. Look at what he did against LSU and Texas.

Wells at the last second picked OSU of USC. SO if he went to tailback U it would be a different story?

I understand people not being 100% on the pick. Thats a difference of opinion I happen to think you will be wrong. But have something concrete for gods sake.

Reputations can be gained unfairly, no?

The reason he got that rep is because he is ALWAYS nicked up with a to or a leg or something.

Not because he doesn't move the pile. Watch the you tube i put in this thread earlier. The first one.

Could it also be that he removes himself from games more than you'd like from a running back?

Could it be that instead of bowling over the DB he outweighs by at least 20 pounds to gain that extra one or two yards, he accepts the shove out of bounds?

No one doubts his physical ability or his potential. Whether he was simply trying to protect himself for the NFL this past year, we don't know. But much to the dismay of the Beanie Wells Fanclub, toughness is a concern when talking about Wells that we will not know the answer to until the season starts.

Regardless, I'm glad that he's the pick and hope he pans out.

I am also very interested with what John Lott will do for Beanie...I think he's going to get him in great condition, shed ten pounds or so and get even stronger.

Lott + Whis/Grimm + Beanie's already sick talent could end up equating to something very special.

I can't wait until the season starts!!

Isn't it great to have a strength and conditioning guy that we have so much faith in? Lott is mentioned in pretty much every draft thread...I know I mentioned him with Toler and I saw him mentioned with Johnson. That guy might be the second most important guy on this staff behind Whisenhunt.

Say what you want about Wells, I like this train a whole lot better than the Lendale to Glendale one that pulled into the station a couple years ago.

WHOA!!!! He looks like a run-away freight train. All that strength and speed too? What a package.

Can we just dispense with all the formalities and start the season tomorrow? :D

He has a great stiff arm for sure but the package that gets me salivating for next year is this one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lylP9aeFc7E

Look at how he just pushs the pile and invites contact. Totally contrary to the soft label he has been unfairly given IMHO. Go to 2 mins and 20 seconds in. Sick. And that break away speed. I talk to OSU fans and to a man they think he is going to be all time in the show. Other then Leinart I have never been this excited for a first round pick.

This clip is just sick too. Mandatory viewing Cards fans.

2007 Beanie was awesome, we know that.

Here is 2008 Beanie....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKYeleDrCaQ

I like him too:)

Keep in mind freshman QB (who was more of a running threat so more guys were in the box) inexperienced Oline and being quite dinged up led to his numbers and stock subsequently dropping.

The best thing about watching Beanie is you look at the You Tube and all the compilations are against ranked teams for the most part.

I was impressed with Donald Brown but I felt like half of his highlights came against Buffalo.

He reminds me of Stephen Jackson--pretty close to the same size and speed, fell to the late 1st round because of a gimpy knee during his last year at Oregon State.

Thats a great comparison.

But I like Archie Griffins comparison of Beanie even better;)

All I know is that this Texas Ex wished he would have stunk against us and everytime he got the ball I cringed...this is a big time back, might not be Peterson but he is just as good as Frank Gore or Stephen Jackson IMO and it will be good to see a back which will remind me of the days of OJ Anderson. I know that fans of the Niners, Rams and Seahawks will settle down after the draft and realize what has happened

Niner fan "What a steal, we got Crabtree at 10! and have Frank Gore...I can't wait for the season to start....hey? the Cardinals got Wells at 31 and they still have Boldin, and we could not pry Warner from them, and they have Fitz...they have Fitz...somebody get that John Madden cover out of my face, they have Fitz...and they have Breaston, oh and Hightower...wish we had that guy last season when time was running out near the goal line, crap"

Trent Dilfer said yesterday during ESPN's coverage that John Lott will probably have him drop about 10 pounds making him even a bit faster and he expects the durability issue won't be consequential. I hope he's right. One good thing, he'll be playing half his games on the best playing surfact in the NFL. :)

I know John Lott is very revered but I thought he retired? Maybe it was his last year doing the combine? I swear there was something along those lines that I heard. I'm not drunk, I promise.

Wow. I don't have a problem with the Wells pick. I just don't understand the immediate anointing of him as the second coming of Jim Brown. Ohio State is a hyped up team in an inflated conference. It is a standing joke that everyone at Ohio State runs a sub 4.4 during spring drills. Ask the 97,000 fans who showed up for their practice game this weekend. See their post season performances and their lack of "stars" in the NFL. So that is the non superficial insight that I am using.

Amazing that some fans take this draft process so seriously, and you come off as uberserious. It is opinions and difference of opinions. That's all it is. Your insight is no more accurate than mine, but I would stake mine against yours anytime.

Being a South Florida resident should give some insight into All World players from Ohio State who were labeled can't miss. How is Ted Ginn Jr. doing?

I hope Chris Wells breaks the pattern of Big 11 busts, but until he does , I'll just keep my expectations a bit lower than yours.

Thanks for the video links by the way. I know there was speculation that Brown would be the RB that the Cardinals would take because of how the draft was predicted to play out but watching the highlight reel that was also on the Wells YouTube page, made me even more excited about Wells.

Wells seemed to be breaking tackles and in general running in what looked like NFL-like situations. Obviously no NCAA team is going to compare to an NFL team but his reel looked like what would be seen in the NFL. And the stiff-arms! He wasn't just keeping players at bay, he was de-cleating them and then rumbling down the field. Wow. His game certainly looks like it will translate into solid production in the NFL. And that was the 2008 clip that I saw that stuff.

Brown was running against Buffalo and had some nice long runs but it didn't look like anything he would ever see in the NFL. He wasn't being touched for 8+ yards and went down on first contact quite a bit. He certainly looks fast but even in the highlight reel he had an untouched burst into the secondary and got caught from behind. I guess there's always someone faster but if his game is speed it seems like an indictment to be caught from behind like that in a clear footrace situation. In the NFL, every db is going to be faster than whoever that Buffalo college defender was.

I really don't know much about Brown but he looks like a speed guy so please correct me if I'm wrong. He certainly doesn't look like a power guy to me but in either case, he didn't seem to make many defenders miss in that highlight reel. It's a small sample size of course but that cuts both ways. If he isn't making guys miss in these plays that are highlights, it makes me wonder about the rest of the time. Even in the 2008 reel of Wells, where he clearly isn't planting his feet as well as in 2007, he's still not being stopped by the first defender.

It seemed pretty clear to me that there is a noticeable difference between Wells and Brown and I think the Cardinals got a very Peterson-like steal because Wells was dinged in 2008 and operating with a less than stellar supporting cast. If anything, it seems to have given us a look at what he might actually do against NFL type competition. Being somewhat slowed and having a line that wasn't USC-esque in terms of completely outclassing the competition, not to mention a relatively predictable offense that defenses stacked against the run make this a, IMO, safe pick if nothing else.

That was John Omohundro, the Cardinals trainer for 36 years and also happens to be Jim O's dad.

John Lott is the team's strength and conditioning coach and I don't see him retiring anytime soon. He's one of those guys that just loves his job too much.
