According to Kiper:

Tatum Bell, Oklahoma State, second-third round -- The most explosive back in the draft, Bell has game-breaking speed and good instincts with the ball. The only problem is fumbling. Bell coughed the ball up at key times during the season and was benched for a short time, but aside from that he is as talented as any back in the draft.

16 TDs last season for Oklahoma State. Averaged six yards per carry in 2003!

If he's too chicken to run between the tackles in college, then he's going to be terrified in the NFL. He can't bounce EVERYTHING to the outside.

Get on the bandwagon. The Big Red Line will open HUGE holes up the middle for this guy, and he knows where the end zone is. Maybe he can point it out to Marcel during training camp!

Hope he runs bad at the combine. If he's fast there, he could be this draft's version of that guy who was taken in the second by Oakland (Can't be more specific this early, but I think it was Justin Fargas).

He compares to Trung Candidate. Anyway, here's the skinny from the War Room:

Tatum Bell
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a speedy, tough runner with upside if he continues to add bulk and run hard. He shows very good burst to the hole. Has the speed to turn the corner consistently and shows a second gear when he breaks a run to the outside. He has adequate vision and shows the ability to change directions without losing much in transition. Is elusive in the open field and is a huge threat if he breaks through to the second level. Has a lot of potential as a receiver because of his speed and running skills after the catch.

Weaknesses: Lacks size and strength. Needs to put more bulk on his frame. Lacks great patience as a runner at times. Has terrific speed and potential both in the return game and passing game but lacks experience. Has decent hands but does not show a great feel for route running. Is undersized at the point of attack as a pass blocker, and his technique in that area of the game is marginal.

Bottom line: Bell is a three-year starter who came on strong late in his junior season and continued to improve as a senior, averaging six yards on 213 carries with 16 rushing touchdowns. He always has had terrific speed, but he finally began to run hard and shows better vision between the tackles last season. If he continues to improve his toughness as a runner and if he can add some bulk to his frame, Bell has the speed and running skills to develop into a very solid change-of-pace backup in the NFL. He could fill in for a long-term injury situation, which is why he’s worth taking a chance on early in Day 2. Although he does not have great experience in the return game, he has the speed to develop into a fine special teams player and possibly a kickoff-return specialist.

Rating: 5.9

Get on the bandwagon. If Cedric Cobbs goes early, this would be like Damian Anderson, only without the injury concerns, and good.

NOPE! Cant do it.

If you want to get on a bandwagon. hitch yourself up to Quincy Wilson.

He will be the SOD. (Steal of the draft)

No offense Kerouac, but is Kiper the God of the draft? Tatum Bell is a nice special teams prospect, and that's about it.

Hey, I don't watch college football. He just got a good rating. I don't know if you can get the War Room for free, but that's who I have to listen to. I'm just trying to make some talk.

Anything that can help me work in the theme of "someone to show Marcel the end zone" kind of makes me happy.

I subscribed to the War Room. So far so good, I agree with a lot of the takes I read.

PM me, and I'll send you my login and password. Hopefully, I won't lose my subscription, but I'd be willing to help a guy out.

The guys at the War Room are legitimate NFL scouts, so there info is a little bit better than Kiper's.

According to Len Pasquerelli, Tatum's stock is on the rise after he ran a 4.37(!) 40 at the Combine. Also, notes Pasquerelli:

He catches the ball well, is a willing blocker and can run away from defenders if he hits air in the secondary.

Top of the 4th round? I want my DT from Hawaii Sopoaga at the top of the third, but it'd be nice to get both in this draft, and a minor coup.

Get on the bandwagon, baby!

The Rap on Bell

Mayock on NFL Network mentioned that, despite running an insane forty (as predicted), the dude has poor change of direction skills (i.e. is all north/south) and this will keep him from being drafted higher.

I like him too and he is fast, but he doesnt have any 'waggle' for a kid with his size and speed. Runs too stiff. He has straight line speed-thats it.

I would take him with the second pick of round 3 or round 4 maybe.
