Mark Gordon Takes a Second Look
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
June 27, 2005

Mark Gordon is planning to produce a remake of Don't Look Now for Paramount Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The 1973 film, directed by Nicolas Roeg and based on a story by Daphne Du Maurier, created a sensation in the early '70s thanks to a highly erotic love scene featuring Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie.

Andrea Berloff will write the screenplay for the adaptation, which centers on a couple, John and Laura Baxter, who go to Venice, Italy, to recuperate after the sudden death of their daughter only to encounter strange visions that suggest their daughter's presence.

Paramount Goes Back to Summer School
Source: Variety
July 12, 2005

Paramount Pictures will go back to Summer School, setting up a remake of the 1987 Mark Harmon comedy, reports Variety.

The studio has hired the writing team of Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel to pen the script, which will cover the chaotic summer season in high school life, centering on a hard-nosed teacher aiming to be the next principal and the student who becomes his nemesis in achieving that goal.

It's the second Paramount assignment for Pennekamp and Turpel, who are also writing Duck for President for the studio and Nickelodeon. The pair also recently made a blind script deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.

The original Summer School, directed by Carl Reiner, followed the story of a high school gym teacher forced to ditch his summer plans to teach a remedial English class for the school misfits.

How is it really a remake if the plot is totally different?

Just make it another movie - why would it have to be Summer School?

Source: Bloody-Disgusting
July 26, 2005

Bloody-Disgusting reports that Ron Howard spoke to CNN about Thursday's Space Shuttle Discovery launch.

Howard also said that his Apolla 13 star Bill Paxton has joined Universal's Creature From the Black Lagoon, a remake of the classic 1954 film.

Howard also said he would like to do another space movie sometime, but says he's done the historial piece and would love to do something action/adventure driven in the vein of 2010.

Gak. I just read this entire thread for the first time. I used to be Stout in that I would rant and rave about Hollywoods complete lack of originality. Good to see Stout carrying the torch. Chap argued way back in 05 that we have no stake it these movies so why should we care. I think we do have a stake in it. The more unwilling we as paying customers are to see this retread crap, the more likely hollywood will be to continue making it. We voice our displeasure, maybe change some peoples minds about going to to see these films, gate numbers come down and the almighty screenwriter (who I think SHOULD be the most important person in the movie making process) might have more of a role ion filmmaking. There are original ideas out there.
