see above!

Most of the HBO shows are well written and have a good genre of selections. Sopranos, Sex and the City, OZ, Six Feet Under, etc.

Actually, I am a fan of Sex and the City - not as hardcore as I am with X-Files/Friends/ER, but it's still a great fun show.

I keep meaning to watch 24, but I figure I'm already too late into the show and it's not fun to catch up. Maybe I'm just a show snob - I will have to give more of these shows a chance, even if I'm coming in late.

And yes a-bomb, the girl agent is hot. So is her partner!

Too bad she's a bland actress... :(

No way - at least not in the X-Files! Towards the later seasons (8, 9) she got a bit weepy and barely had life - but the middle seasons she was at her best, imo.

edited to add: I havent seen too much of her stuff outside X-Files, so I can't comment on that. Just X-Files.

I thought abomb was talking about Anabeth Gish since he was describing an episode with Robert Patrick. The fact that you think I would think that Gillian is bland is insulting. ;)

Wow I think I missed the boat on that one.

YES ANNABETH GISH IS BLAND. Dear god is she bland! lol

Robert Patrick is still cute, so I still stand by my "and so is her partner" statement.

LOL Chap, I am so glad you werent talking about Gillian - I was literally like "HUH!?"

Trust me, getting 24 for a $15-$20 price for season, and you WILL get hooked. I guarantee it.

At one point I had access to dvdrips of the first seven seasons but for some reason I never burned them. I watched a few episodes but never got into it. Used sets of season 1 are selling for <$25 so I think I'll give it another chance.
I just bought brand new season 1 for $25. I hope it's good.

HELLS YEAH.

Season 1 is pretty good... but it definitely gets better as the seasons go on.

The Pilot, Squeeze, Ice, Darkness Falls, The Erlenmeyer Flask are all top notch episodes of Season 1, imo.

Keep us updated on your thoughts as you watch em!

Took me 10 months, but I have finally seen every episode of the X-Files. Chronalogically.

How many episodes are there? I know that I would love this show, but I didn’t get in on the ground floor, so I didn’t bother to watch when it got really popular. If I take a break from watching movies, I can probably watch about 3 episodes per day, so I’m wondering how long it would take me.

Thanks

Well, 9 seasons, say about 22-24 eps per season... Around 207 episodes total.

Stefan, you seen any eps lately?

Dod Kalm and Humbug were on TNT last night - I happened to catch a few minutes of them. I'm itching to start from the Pilot and watch all the seasons. Haven't done that in a while.

You know, I've been so busy with work and school that I haven't seen any X-Files for months. Few episodes from season 9 are on Sci-Fi right now.

I think I'm gonna go back to season one and try to watch at least one episode every day. It amazes me how good this show is. I am a huge Deep Space 9 fan, a huge Buffy/ Angel fan, but nothing compares to the X-Files.

Have you seen the Lone Gunman series yet? It is SO FUNNY.

Honestly, I have not seen any episodes of the LG series, except the one that was incorporated into the X-Files Season 9. If I find them on DVD pretty cheap, I might pick 'em up. I still can't believe what happened in that episode. Ugh, makes me so sad.

It's sad because they had an awesome cliff- hanger, and then it was cancelled :-(

But seriously, you should watch the series. It has got to be the funniest TV show ever. Imagine the funniest episode of X-Files and multiply it by 5.

I have seen the series at Amazon ~$20. When there are sales there. It should be around that price.

Awesome... those are all solid eps. Keep hanging in there, the show gets better and better as the seasons progress!

Once I finish my Friends Season 1-10 dvd marathon, I am definitely doing an X-Files one.

I am so jealous that you are new to the show - I wish I could go back

I am through six episodes of season 2 (Scully was just abducted). I really like the episodes that involve aliens or government conspiracy, but sometimes have a hard time watching "freak of the week" episodes.

Yeah the monster of week eps can get kind of corny sometimes. Especially how the end it with "ooooh the monster could come back" crap. Sometimes the MOTW's can be solid.. there's a few coming up in Season 3 that are all around solid.

The Scully abduction arc is a major piece of the backone of the show. Season 2 is just going to get better. The last ep of season 2 and the first two eps of Season 3 are just ... freaking amazing. You must post here once you watch that 3 episode arc, I am really curious to see what you liked/disliked about it.

There are usually 2 camps: Those that are in love with the mythology (alien abduction/Syndicate) and those that love the Monster-of-the-Week eps. I like both, although my favorite episodes tend to be MOTW (Post-Modern Prometheus, Jose Chung's from Outer Space and War of the Coprophages are top of the list), but I do like a lot of the mythology stuff, especially the multi-part eps (my favorites are the triple episodes The Anasazi, The Blessing Way and Paper Clip).

Point is, there is a lot of great stuff. The early season MOTW eps are a little weak, but every so often you'll find some really good stuff, like Ice and Humbug, and some really, really creepy eps like F Emasculata and Irresistable.
