The future of the NBA is Doncic. The past is Ayton. I can't get past that basic fact.
Embiid, KAT, AD, Jokic etc. That is not the past of the NBA. Now the big lumbering grind it in there center, that is the past. Mark Gasol, even Jahlil Okafor and Alex Len.

The future is assembling the most talented players possible and making it work no matter what position they play. The bigger the players are the better.

Back in the day everyone thought they needed a 7 footer no matter what.....think Luc Longley....just threw up a little. Instead of rolling out 5 guys that could play at a high level teams felt compelled to roll out 7 foot stiffs. No team was better at this than the Suns...

There just aren't many 7 footers that can play at a high level. When they come along you don't pass them up. Ayton is that guy. No guarantees of course but if you trade the pick or pass on him and he turns into Robinson or Olajuwon which is a real possibility it would be a catastrophic blunder. I sure wouldn't want to make that mistake.

Exactly. Bigs over smalls if everything else is equal. And then there was Stephen Curry.

Alex Len wouldn’t be relevant regardless of whether it’s the past, present or future.

Lauri and Ayton, both from Arizona. Tells you more about Sean Miller than the players.
Has Lauri been all that good defensively in the NBA away from Miller either?

If Luka is truly 230 lbs I’d like to see him cut down a bit. Michael Porter measured 211 lbs I don’t hear any uproar about it.

And if he were lighter, you'd call him "not strong enough."

I'd rather see him add some weight. 240lb guard is going to be more difficult to guard than a 220lb one.

I don’t care about strength at 19. I’d rather he have elite agility and be a toothpick like JJ.

Well, he's not gonna have elite agility even if he drops 50lb, so I would rather he get in the weight room and add some more muscle to get even stronger. In other words, I'd prefer he sticks to his strength, so to speak.

I thought Lauri was better than I expected as a defender (on the perimeter) in Tucson, and that carried over to the NBA.

It is difficult to statistically rate a Center who has been playing out of position, guarding other than Centers . . . ironically, not because he was their worse Center, but because Ayton was the more flexible of the two.

I wouldn't hold it against him for being a team player.

Yeah. I think even Josh Jackson could bulk up some more.

I was just watching 12 sports night, and fox 10 sports night, the message from bruce cooper/jude la cava was the same on both: how the hell can the suns not draft ayton.

Cooper saying it would be a colossal failure not to, and he was at the draft party, fans were super jacked because they thought it meant ayton.

They will take him because he is the best prospect, but also good to know the financial incentive for cheap ass sarver is to take ayton, as it will bring the most buzz locally.

The only thing I hate about this is I almost ALWAYS think Cooper is dumber than a bag of hammers and hope my teams never listen to him.

I always got love for coop, he's been doing it since I was a kid.

but, it's good that public sports voices are making it clear how dumb it would be not to take ayton. and how critical they will be if ayton is not the pick. Gambo said (somewhat jokingly) mc d should be fired if they dont.

I don't listen much to wolf, but after the draft he was totally dismissive of the idea of anybody but ayton.

I think pretty much only brain dead bickley hasnt been as strident ayton should be the pick

Ha! Me too! I do like LaCava though. I was always surprised when LaCava went into TV. He has a radio voice--and face.

I don't get Bickley. Why does that guy have a job? He is annoying, arrogant, and his opinions are horrible. He doesn't even like Phoenix.
