So Ayton hung out with Booker, Jackson, Chriss, Bender, Knight, and Canaan tonight to watch the finals. I know it was mentioned somewhere he was going to watch them with Booker and Jackson but he's watching it with half the team and virtually every other starter on the team. That's a very good indication that Ayton is going #1.

Hakeems freshman year stats 8ppg 6rpg 2.5blks
I like the comparison, but in those days college freshman had to wait their turn to become starters.

That would be an interesting discussion. With AAU and one and done, players develop a lot earlier these days. But their ceilings are about the same as they have always been.

This may say something about what the Suns future will look like. I like Canaan except I do not know where to put all these backup PGs. Hope Canaan gets healthy. It will be hard for him to make the team.

“You definitely get excited even as a vet,” said Dudley on 98.7 Arizona’s Sports Station’s Doug & Wolf. “You get excited for talented players, players that can change the course of your team.”

Dudley, a native of San Diego, has followed Ayton since he was a sophomore in high school and attended Dudley’s basketball camps.

“This is a guy with a unique skillset. When he was in high school in San Diego before Arizona he went to my basketball camp,” said Dudley. “He was the MVP of my basketball camp for two years. I knew he was a one-and-done when he was a sophomore and he was dunking on every kid.”

Canaan has experience playing SG for the Bulls and Rockets in the past. His ability to play both guard spots will probably help when things are getting tight and they're looking to shrink the roster down to 15. He's got a good chance to make the team, better than Ulis or Harrison IMO. If Harrison is kept I think it'll be on a two-way contract and I doubt Ulis is returning. His absence there is kind of telling in it's own way.

If the Suns are going to part ways with Payton, I wonder if they can get any return in a sign and trade.

Doubt it, he was given away for a 2nd round pick at the trade deadline. I think odds are probably 50/50 of him receiving the qualifying offer from us, so a sign and trade is very unlikely.

Payton has a large cap hold of about 9 million. If the Suns have any free agent plans outside of resigning him, they will need to release him to free up space.

This pic is 2 years old, I believe, since Howard left the Rockets 2 years ago, but here is Ayton standing next to Dwight Howard for a size comparison. He was bigger than Dwight when this was taken, it's not crazy to think he could have grown another inch or two since this was taken also. Dwight is listed at 6'11, some say he's 6'9 without shoes, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Ayton is definitely a 7 footer though. There isn't any fudging his height to sell him as a Center.

Hmm. Dwight is supposed to have a 7-4.5 wingspan. But Aytons is clearly several inches longer in this pic.

Love all this speculation stuff. The dark side of me though can't help but wonder what would happen if the Suns, who finally have the #1 pick, end up reaching and taking someone nobody thought they would take.

This board might go into full nuclear meltdown mode.

You are underestimating the reaction on the Suns forum if that happened. :hairraise
