Wait, what? The rest of the world is saying that Doncic is the "Best in USA?"

I was wondering where the hell you came up with this but after re-reading the earlier posts, it became clear. I thought you were making a general statement and I responded in kind. I hadn't realized that you were simply saying it about Doncic.

Ah, got it. Sorry, I was definitely only referring to Doncic.

Dude, I was supporting you! What the hell?

I never said it was anyone on this board. The anti-Ayton people think that Doncic is the next best thing to sliced bread. You disagree?
Haha. I’m not arguing with you chap.

Are there any true “anti-Ayton” folks? Seems like just the Stepien whoever that is.

True, but that was seven years ago, when the phenomenon of "controversial" click-baiting wasn't so extreme as it is now. I strongly suspect that no one seriously considers Doncic a candidate for #1 either, but they're all pretending the make the argument in order to get attention.

This x 100...

I think this is also what is fueling the whole "OMG, we are going to miss out on the greatest player ever if we don't take Doncic!" mania. People are gullible saps - if they read it on the internet , it must be true, don't consider the source. Then it catches fire on web forums - "I hear that this Doncic kid is the greatest prospect ever! He can't miss! It must be true - the guy on this blog that comes up near the top of my Google search says so!" Pretty soon, lots of people are repeating the mantra as if it's gospel.

Then you see takes like I have on Real GM and other Suns fan boards that people are actually disappointed we are taking Ayton - the type of prospect the Suns have been waiting and hoping for for 40 years. It really is pathetic.

That is so crazy to me. I’m glad this board seems more knowledgeable and we’ve essentially largely come to a collective excitement over the prospect of Ayton.

I’m lower on Ayton than most but how can you not be excited to get him? I think he’ll be Amare 2.0 in terms of impact but will drive you nuts at the same time. With two young elite offensive players going forward the Suns will be very exciting for a long time.

The Ayton vs Doncic debate is almost sort of a NBA/Suns litmus test. I can excuse most of the people who bought into the Doncic hype and think he'll be great. He very well could be but I'm not sure if he would be alongside the current Suns team. For someone to be disappointed we're taking Ayton is beyond strange to me. Ayton is a can't miss prospect, or as close to we've ever seen. By that I mean the Suns specifically, we've never had the chance to draft a player so promising. He has one of the highest floors in this class, a damn near unlimited ceiling, and is also the least likely to bust. I would be shocked if he doesn't make an All-Star team fairly soon. He should make one before his rookie contract is up and I'd bet on that happening, so within 4 years of being in the NBA.

I find it strange that this board is the only place I've seen (besides Bordow and Gambo) that universally supports the drafting of Ayton over Doncic. Most national publications, reporters and even Suns fansite beat writers support Doncic over Ayton.

Strange anomaly that we collectively are more Ayton than Doncic.

Woj said a couple weeks back, almost every gm he talked to would take ayton first. Doesn't matter what some dopes running suns fansites have to say

Yes, however, my point still stands, regardless what GMs say. We aren't GMs either, but it does speak to our intelligence IMO. Maybe you just don't care.

You mean the basketball intelligence of this board being higher? Yeah, I agree.

I think people here have watched a lot more basketball than these kids writing for suns sites. They barely saw tim duncan play in his prime, they have no idea the different evolutions and changes back and forth that have happened in the nba.

Which is fine, the problem is they are so adamant they are right, to the point they ignore facts. i.e. crap doncic performances don't even get brought up.

And the sad thing is that some of these kids have jobs we would kill to have - i.e. being paid to cover the Suns, even if it isn't much. But they DO have access that we don't.

I'm not positive but I thought the RealGM Suns board was mostly pro-Ayton? I tend to avoid the General board there but I thought that was where most of the pro-Doncic crowd hung out. Anyway, I don't think the Suns board there or the Phx-Suns.net is all that different from our forum here.

Nope, the RealGM Suns board has a heavy pro-Doncic contingent. Like most boards, they are resigned to taking Ayton, but they are still more Doncic than Ayton.

LOL ESPN - one of "Six trades we'd love to see"...

Kings get: Devin Booker, Jared Dudley

Suns get: Bogdan Bogdanovic, No. 2

For Phoenix, Deandre Ayton or Luka Doncic. Luka Doncic or Deandre Ayton. Why choose? If the most valuable asset to the Suns is the No. 1 overall pick and there is any doubt over who should be selected first, just get both prospects. Oh, and pick up a sneaky good player in Bogdanovic in the process.

Not really, i doubt they get paid anything.

They have those jobs because they went to asu studying journalism, not because they know anything about basketball

I would probably throw up in my mouth if that trade happens. Trading a legit up and coming star for Doncic (who may never amount to anything) would be insanely ridiculous.

Yep, it's totally ridiculous, along with most of the other trades on their puff piece list. Others included a trade around Bradley Beal for Kevin Love/JR Smith and Kyrie for Porzingas.

Phx-Suns.net has a contingent of fairly hard core pro-Doncic folks, too. Possibly not the majority there, but maybe half.

Apparently, this is the only Suns board (at least that I have seen) where good sense prevails.

Bright Side of the Suns seems to be very pro Doncic, but the poll they did a little while back showed that the site was like 70% Ayton. The Doncic crowd is just so vocal on that site that you would believe that it was legitimately more like 50/50.

Reading your quote of my post made me realize I failed to make the point I wanted in that last sentence. I was trying to say, whether the forum is pro Doncic or pro Ayton, I don't think there's much difference between the intelligence levels of .net posters, RGM Suns posters and the ASFN group. There's good and bad on all 3 forums.
