So how does one tell the difference between the two and avoid this?

easy. plot moving characters, instead of characters doing it themselves means you come into an episode and instead of saying how would these characters react after last week's events, you come in with the idea that "everyone needs to separate and get caught up in terrible situations"... and then you just force characters to act putting them into those scenarios they'd never do unless the plot needed them to.

and as a writer, it's SUPER EASY to convince yourself of your rationalizations of why a character would do something in order to move plot forward.

Rick: I don't think we ended it

Morgan: I think you started something

Great exchange, this is getting messed up and it is only going to get worse.

Now 4 people are hostage, who dies? I imagine the saviors will march in and kill one of them in Alexandria. We all know it's Glenn in the comic, do they follow that Or kill someone else to keep Glenn alive? Do they kill two?

Bad decisions abound for sure, having 7 warriors leave the base isn't a good idea

Is Maggie having a miscarriage? Going to need the hilltop doctor.

I just read an interesting theory, well crafted, that makes the argument that Negan will kill Abraham with his barb-wire bat instead of Glen since Abraham was the one killed with the arrow in the comics, thereby setting him up for the finale. It's a pretty solid idea... I can't see AMC killing off Rick, Carl, Carol, Daryl or Glen, who are all the 5 core favorites. They stick pretty close to the comics, but there are certainly differences.

that would be a really good way to continue to show... that the core characters ARE NEVER at risk. Killing that guy makes no impact whatsoever.

I disagree, he is a big deal IMO. Not sure if hes as big as 3 of the people that are captured right now but he is a big deal. His ex would be more of a no impact move.

interesting theory, I feel like itll be one of the 4 captured ones though.

I guarantee the writers are not going to show who gets killed and will cliffhanger it for next season. Probably fade to black as he swings his bat... So predictable IMO...

Glenn makes sense at this point.... didn't we just witness Maggie having a miscarriage?? That will make her distraught,....losing Glenn right on the heals of that will push her over the edge....... just in case you don't know...you never wanna have to deal with a psycho country girl...just sayin........

Not that the comics are being followed exactly but a Maggie miscarriage would be a definite change from the comics. Besides how much can they put a single character through?

Has any other character seriously been put through the ringer more than Maggie? It's almost as if the writers have some sick, twisted obsession with torturing her character. If she was a real person she probably would have hung it up long ago.

Does anyone think that Abraham dying would be that big of a deal besides BRR?

I don't think he is as big a deal as the core folks, but his popularity has definitely increased a lot since the introduction of his character.

I would considered it a 2nd tier death. Not as important as the core group members but definitely more consequential than one of the Alexandria folks or side characters. Only because he is popular.

I like Abe....every few episodes you get a scene or two that hints that he may be more prominent in the story from here on out.....then it never happens....it looks like he is there to be the unofficial sounding board when a character needs to vent or talk something out and their regular is out on a run or something.

It would suck if Abe was killed.... not as badly as if it were Daryl.....but more so than if it were Rosita....it would suck more than the Tyrese death...

and in no way would it be a relief such as when Lori died.....

edit....perhaps on par with Beth getting killed....

Who is Abraham, is that the big ginger army guy?

Ya, I am kind of tired of the guy and his poor people skills. He's pretty tough, but not on as high on the badazz scale as Daryl, Rick, Michonne, Carol...

Kill him off, I don't care.

Bonafied badass and great one liners all the time. He's been a badass from the start, just the writers seen to only be able to write love story material for him even though he's one of the best fighters in the group

Ya, but his character comes off as a bit too manufactured. Can't put my finger on it.

Not as big a deal as some of the others, but I think at this point, anyone pre-Alexandria is a big deal.

Aside: It's funny, I was happy to see Maggie cut her hair in the last episode, because I noticed her hair had been short in all the "Inside the Walking Dead" episodes, and was worried she'd done it for another part after filming a scene where she was killed off.

IMO Maggie is hotter with the short hair

man, I just don't see there being a lot of "OH, NO! THEY KILLED ABRAHAM!" responses on social media if that were to happen.
