So much this.

I read he only had the script for 2 days and only his dialogue. He had no clue what the entire episode entailed or that it would be a cliff hanger. He didn't have time to work with the crew or other cast members.

He described the two day filming as "emotional" for the cast and crew. Sounds like it was very intense.

The fact that he nailed it says much.

I wonder if the cast even knows who "died"

I guess the actors have to know if they're coming back next season.

The cynical side of me wonders if this ending has anything to do with contract negotiations and options for next season.

If everyone watching had an idea that it was all going to build up to a Negan reveal and a bat swing, the writers should have gone in a different direction. Period. Show who gets whacked. Go a little further than that scene and show the reaction of the other characters. Something other than what was expected. Really stupid to have all of the build-up with absolutely nothing at the end other than exactly what was expected.

Just another reason the comics > the TV show.

The word is that final scene, none of the cast was on set. They didn't want the cast to know who was going to die or if it was going to be their character's end to get more emotion out of them in the moments shot before JDM hit a rigging without the cast there. Evidently it worked because emotions were running high on set.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan was awesome. Loved his introduction and the way he delivered his lines.

I wonder who the poor actor is that shows up to work next season only to find out they are killed off. Talk about being nervous about job security.

I'm betting that actor already knows. The show won't pick up a full option on someone just for one season, especially if it's a major character. That would eat a massive hole in their budget. Also, it would be INCREDIBLY bad business to make an actor wait another a full year of work (realize, this finale was shot six months ago plus another six months for the episode to air) to get another job.

reality is, one of these people will probably be cast in something in the next six months and that will tell us who died... which is another stupid reason to hold this cliffhanger over.

JDM was on talking dead right after the show...they said the entire cast spent two nights,...nearly fifteen hours ...sitting on their knees while he dialogued..... they commented how normally it would be tennis balls,...or paper markers,..or at best a few crew members as markers...but this cast all wanted to be present..... he said he was able to feed off of them a bit because they were being emotional,...really getting into the situation..... he mentioned how for the first two days he was there most of the other actors would not even make eye contact with him..... he seems to love the role and the group of actors he is working with.

It would be markers, or crew members or tennis balls? That sounds like the biggest load of horse manure I've ever heard. A MASSIVE new character starts on the show and the actors opposite him in the scene normally wouldn't be there? That isn't how shows work. The idea that he wouldn't have the main cast members there in his turn of coverage isn't how things like that go down. The level of disrespect towards that actor would be unlike anything I've ever seen on set.

That's what they said...I guess a major part was him just talking into the camera...and they seemed to think it was abnormal for all the other cast members to be right there in their own spots for that type of shooting.

can I ask why? You knew they were going to reveal Negan and you knew he was going to kill someone. So what exactly did you get out of the Season Finale? There wasn't any surprise... any revelation... any opening up of new storylines (except for the Knights on horses I guess). It was all just one massive stall to get to Negan and that moment... for literally 8 episodes. And then the moment comes... and they stall again?
The horse guys were an interesting wrinkle.

I thought the build up was fantastic. Oaken described it well as the group felt more and more hopeless at every turn. I felt it with them IMO. I was stressed the whole time and negan really nailed his entrance, worth all the hype.

I thought this season was phenomenal and it's still hands down my favorite show.

Just browse TV and look at all the stuff you hate that is popular, I know when I had cable I couldn't believe all the crap on that had nothing for me. This show does it for me, doesn't mean it will fit everyone.

I'm OK with both knowing who died, makes me even more excited for next season. Now we will sit through 6 months of this shows wannabe, hopeful it's far better than last season.

These cliffhangers are getting a little old. How will Rick and his gang get out of this one? Tune in next week folks!

My wife and I thought for sure that a main character would die this episode, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm betting the writers whimp out and that Eugene is the one who ultimately dies since he already gave the plans to Rick for the bullets. Even worse would be Aaron who conveniently tagged along. He might as well have been wearing a red Star Fleet uniform. Glenn, Daryl, or at the very least Abraham needs to die to maintain some integrity.

Oh and I'm sick of Carol and her drastic psyche change. Hope she dies too. But, I'm sure she'll survive 3 bullet wounds w/o proper medical care. That scene was so predictable. Who didn't know Morgan was going to have to kill that guy?

The writers need a shake-up.

I loved the Morgan scene and I think him laying the bullets will help carol come back to being carol. This show has always been about people losing their **** and either dying or coming back. Morgan pulling the trigger was a significant moment that I have been dying for.

I agree...I hope they do not go with an all Carol and Morgan season premier...that would be really weak....

I kinda figured the same with Rick and Carl...kill one,...you have to kill them both...because the other will never be controlled after that.

Killing off Eugene would be a total cop out...really do think it was Abraham,....he was ready to start having babies after all.........

I am really curious about the new group though, they looked prepared.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan was awesome. Loved his introduction and the way he delivered his lines.

His right hand man that did his lead in was phenomenal as well I thought

What I read is that for the most part the entire cast was there. They shot first at JDM's angel then the shot at the cast's angle over 2 nights. The only scene the cast wasn't there for was when JDM swung Lucile.

That's one thing I thought too. One of the most important missions of the season and Jesus is AWOL.

Abraham is an important character in the comics, certainly tier 1.

Not in the show though which is what I think everyone is talking about. They really have pushed his character aside IMO.

.

im thinking he doesnt know anything about them coming back to see the doctor or even that ricks doctor is dead. its like they did the main attack and everyone moved on like the battle was won. Is jesus naive enough to think that was all of the saviors? Or at that point he does have a group to lead so maybe he simply headed back to the hilltop.

PS: the red rover scene before bullets went flying was pretty awesome. To see Daryl and Michonnes clothes on those zombies was a good scene. I'm glad the saviors only kill one and send you on your way as they could easily just wax the whole group and call it quits on them. Negan is obviously used to getting people to bow down, my thought is that rick will place nice but ultimately will kill negan.

(and no i dont want to know what happens in the comic :) for one I like to keep it pure and for two I am reading the comic but purposely staying behind the show. )

That was Steven Ogg. He is popular among Grand Theft Auto fans for his voice acting role as Trevor in GTA V. I thought he was great in this, I hope we get more of him.

...still didn't make up for the cliffhanger for me. I'll be psyched for next season anyway. I think the show is always entertaining, even in weaker episodes.

Scarier than Terminus. More organized than the Governor. Better staying power than the Wolves. The Saviors were supposed to be the game-changing Big Bad™ that would upend the zombie world order as we know it. They’re supposed to be terrifying. Instead, they’re cartoonishly evil and it's hard to be scared of cartoon villains. Case in point: last night, The Walking Dead season finale gave up the pretense of being a dramatic tale of survival in a post-apocalyptic world and became an elaborate Wile E. Coyote prank. The only thing missing was ACME plastered all over the cars and a bucket of paint with which the Saviors could create a new “road” to trick The Group.
