This team has talent, this team has guts, this team has what it takes to win.

I think most will not come out and say this team can win 9 games, becuase of history and not wanting to look a fool when the underachieve.

Watching the team last night, we can compete with anyone. And I don't believe it is the kool-aid talking.

We make mistakes, and over came them.

Our D did a great job (last 3 minutes withstanding)

Our O took what they gave us.

We ran the ball decently and tough.

Their secondary had our WO's for the most part very well covered. Matt missed a couple times when one got free...but for the most part they were covered well.

Our O line gave Matt time to throw and opened some nice holes for the running game.

I think thats what makes last night's game so hard to digest. We can go as far as our Coaches take us. The Coaches need to put the players in position to win the game. We lost, thats one game. Hopefully Wiz makes corrections and doesnt give an inch no matter what the situation from now on. Don't call off the dogs, and give the other team a glimer of hope.

Let's rattle off the next 15 in a row!

One loss does not a season ruin.

That's where I stopped reading. We have talent, but talent never won anything without heart and a winning attitude. We showed no winning attitude, but we did show heart...until it actually mattered. Again, we had guts...until it really mattered. And no, this team most certainly does not know how to win. Seriously, how can you even type that?

I don't think it is as cut and dry as that.

I think this is more of most of the players on this team have heart, and a winning attitude. I think some are just "along for the ride." I will stay off Darnell Dockett, but IMO the guy is all talk and no walk. Furthermore, I think Calvin Pace sucks. Tell me all you want about how well he played last night.
All I remember is Pace being able to reach out and grap Alex Smith but then let him go thus the 25 yard scamper. .......I do not like Calvin Pace.

Chin up Stout. I can tell you are REALLY upset after this loss. You have been through worse. We all have. It is the first game.

Just think of it this way. Maybe this is the inverse of last year. Instead of 1 win and eight straight loses. We will have 1 loss and eight straight wins!

Kool Aid baby.

Okay. What makes you think they have what it takes to win? We sure in the hell haven't seen it yet.

Well you stopped reading my first post after the first line...so I don't see any need to write more...you wont read it.

I am just as pissed off as you about this loss. But my eyes aren't close.

Seriously..If the Cards can't hold on to beat the 49ers when they have a 4 point lead and under 3 minutes on the clock..and the 49ers can go 86 yards and win the game..I mean this is deja vu all over again. Now we have to play Seattle on a short week and then Baltimore on the road..and then the Steelers? I hate to say it but the Cards are staring 0-4 right in the face..This really was a game the had to win and should have won. Only the Cards could have lost this game...

Did you even read what I wrote? The Coaches have to put the players in position to win.

Our second to last offensive series and SF's last offensive series were terrible decisions by the Coaches.

.

I've seen this a few times, I don't get it?

http://www.nfl.com/videos

check out the lowlights and they have that 25 yard run and Pace never even touched Smith, he was rushing from the left outside and got picked up by the RT. I think Wilson got closest to Smith he forced him to step up and run,
Pace wasn't even remotely in position to reach out and then let Smith go, he
had some pressure on him but he was doing exactly what he was supposed to do, contain so that Smith didn't get out of the pocket on his side.

That was just a great run by a kid who his first 2 years would have fallen down and fumbled in that situation.

Not true. Lots of teams have lost this way.

It just hurts more because we expected it. And it seemed like a script.

I think it almost comes down to one thing and that is Leinart playing better. If he played better, the Cards win last night...I firmly believe that.

I used to think Skorp was crazy with his rants about Leinart not panning out but maybe Skorp isn't all that far off the mark.

This upcoming game, believe it or not, is maybe make or break for the entire season because if they lose here then they likely go 0-3 heading into a showdown with PIT and the Steelers sure loooked damn good even thought it was against CLE.

Gotta beat SEA

I agree with what you say about coaches putting players in a position to win. I just think the "Here we go again" attitude is like Mt. Everest. It is very difficult to get past. It's always there...from the players to the fans. I will credit the team for recoving from the early int. But you could just feel the Cards slipping on that final drive. I know I felt it as well..I was thinking the whole time that this was an all too familiar scenario and we know the usual outcome. Sure enough it happened. I think this team has talent, and competant coaches. I'm not sure if they have a enough talent and fortitude to overcome the legacy.

I agree with you for the most part there, Leinart looked awful but I wonder how much of the anemic passing game was 1) dictated by the playcalling and 2) dictated by the good coverage of the 49er defense. I'm hoping he bounces back and isn't starting a "sphomore slump".

The offense reminded me of the GB or Oak games from last season and even in those games I didn't think Leinart looked as bad as last night.

Okay, I went back and read the rest. The problem with your hypothesis is that you seem to think we were playing the Patriots or the Chargers; we weren't. We were playing a mediocre (at best) SF team, and we still had those problems. I'm not saying there weren't some positives; there were. I'm just saying we are in nowhere near the position to win 9 games.

Just maybe all the hype about the Whiners improvement had a basis and they are no longer a mediocre team. They showed last year that they can play and got better in the offseason. This just may very well be the best division in the NFC. Now we need to adjust and cut down the mistakes and win.

I'm totally with you Endzone.

Add me to the list. The only part of our game that wasn't working last night was the QB and I have a feeling if Lienart isn't doing so hot by half time next week, we will see Mr. Warner step in. We manhandled Gore and Davis and our defense played like demons. Our running game was great and the Oline was working even after Johnson went out. Our special teams could have done a better job on returns, but they had good coverage on punts/KO's and tackled very well.

I doubt they sit Leinart.

Your right and it's the first game of the regular season. Our D was playing pretty close to lights out last night. True it was not SD or NE, but I didnt say we could win the SB. With the way our D was playing last night coupled with the offensive line play and a little bit of Dicipline this is our division for the taking.

All I am saying is we have the athletes, players, to do it. Bringing it and KEEPING it together is the key and that lies completely on the Coaching staff.

I dont think they should bench Matty. He did look rattled last night but from the looks of it SF's defense (at least the secondary) is extremely improved. There was not much space at all the throw down the field. Matty will play well this week when we pound the Hags.

Punt coverage was fine but the 49ers were getting their kickoff returns out to the 30 on every kick it seemed. Special teams as a whole needs work.

I was pleasantly pleased with our run game and our defense. The passing game needs work but not just the QB, the WRs need to get seperation and the playcalling needs to be more creative.

But like others have said its not like we lost to the Patriots, it was the 49ers, not exactly a super football team, next week will be a better measure. The Seahawks are at least the 3 time defending division champs.

This is a 9-7 team.

We did some things last night which we were never able to do..
Stopping the run
Stopping the screen
Stopping the TE
Running the ball

That game came down to home field advantage and Leinart being shaky with the new offense. His reads were not good at all. I wished we would have spread them out more too with a 3wr set.

I do feel though that Seattle is a must win for our confidence and getting out of a tough first half schedule with some wins.
