Yup, Ed, all these teams are stupid. They keep giving away Thomas Jones. Why?

The Cardinals gave him away because they're idiots. They continually draft QBs and RBs, play them behind a line composed of guys one step away from the CFL, and then act shocked when they don't succeed.

Tampa rented him for a year, got modest production out of him, and didn't think he'd take the next step to be a 1000-yard rusher. They were wrong.

The Bears....well, it's hard to argue anything other than that they're stupid. They chose Cedric Benson to carry the load on a team with a horrible QB. Benson will be hurt and/or ineffective all season.

So that's two "stupids" and one indifferent. I know your question was sarcastic, but I have absolutely no problems standing behind the argument that teams run by guys like Dave McGinnis and Jerry Angelo are stupid.

Garrison Hearst, Michael Pittman, and Thomas Jones have all run for career highs after they left the Cardinals.

I think all three played in Super Bowls as well.

Now this is where I'll disagree. Jones wasn't playing here. Watch him run and you'll see he's waaaay more concerned with not getting hurt.

He was never going to be the player he became in Chicago here in AZ. The Cards HAD to get rid of him.

Yes, they did. I think they were stupid (let me clarify) for drafting a guy and then not maximizing his chance to succeed.

At the end of his Cardinal tenure he was on a team with no QB, no OL, and clueless coaches. Call it a bad attitude if you must, but I would have been running to avoid injury and biding my time to get out of town too. I can't blame him for that.

We had to get rid of him, but we could have kept him if we did what Chicago did....put him behind a great run-blocking OL and call plays that suit his style - lots of counters, lots of off-tackle stuff.

Ed, check your messages. Didn't mean to be so sarcastic.

Jason, no offense intended.

Come on guys, you're no dummies. Neither are the Bears personnel people. They put together a good team.

There is obviously something about Thomas Jones that managements don't like. We just don't know what it is.

The Jets got screwed. Bank on it.

Ed, I agree with you on a lot of things, but you are dead wrong here. TJ was paid a hugh sum of money to play football. The Cards fullfilled their part by paying him that high salary, but he didn't reciprocate. If you didn't want to do your job, would your boss keep paying you?

Do you not remember how many times he hit the dirt before he was even touched and that was in the early days before he had a chance to become disolousioned. TJ had no heart when he was here.

I hate that.

When all logic points the other way it's hard to see...it's like when you parents told you something you were sure to know better...then a couple of years later...Pow!

They told you so!

You're right. I wasn't defending his attitude, I just sympathize with it. He was obviously not happy here and I believe that a lot of that was the fault of his surroundings.

He played with little heart here because he wanted out. We obliged him and shipped him to Tampa. From the Cards perspective, dumping him made sense. It would have made MORE sense in my opinion to draft a guy like him, give him some damn blocking, and not have amateurs running the offense. Remember the OCs under McGinnis? It was like the Who's Who list of Who's Thats.

I dont care what skkorp is saying. The Bears got raked. TJ is a good player in ever facet on the football field. Kudos to the Jets for pullling this off.

Bank on it. Don't think so.

I remember when Adrian Wilson was your designated "surly, loner".

Well, no denying that Jones was a surly loner here. But he was young and now he seems like a completely different person. Everyone on the Bears loves him and he's full of personality.

People change. But even in Chicago he's been capable of some sulking (sat out some minicamps over contract issues).

None taken.

But, I think the Jets will get at least 2 really good, if not great, years out of TJ. And, maybe they on;y get that because he self-destructs. But they still get 2 good years.

In today's NFL, can you expect much more?

TJ may have been a surly loner in AZ, but as horrendously amateurish as the Cardinals were under McGinnis....

Hard to believe that McGinnis won more games in one season,7, than Green did,6.

At the end of his Cardinal tenure he was on a team with no QB, no OL, and clueless coaches

TJones left with the rest of the offensive skill players after the 2002 season. He was not part of the fiasco that resulted in 2003.

TJones last year in AZ Jake Plummer was still the QB, Kendall,Shelton,Davis,Clement and Grutts were the offensive line.
Marcel Shipp averaged 4.4 ypc and scored 6 rushing TD's that season as he and Jones combined for 1,345 yards on 326 carries.

David Boston and Frank Sanders were the starting wide receivers, guys who had combined for 4,121 yards and 23 TD's over the two previous seasons.

That year every WR the Cards put on the field got hurt and they had one of Mac's defenses so of course they finished 5-11.

It was Emmit Smith and Marcel Shipp who got stuck with no QB and clueless coaches in 2003.

Nope. Never happened. I didn't like Wilson because he screwed up coverages by free-lancing. Pendergast saved Wilson's career.

Exactly why I think Arrington could have been a good fit in Pendy's D--he'd give him room to do what he wants to do, and keep him in line with that carrot.

Skorp, I remember, and I'm sure others do to, when you described Wilson as aloof and unapproachable. You also said that he wasn't very bright lead the cries for benching him, and not re-signing him.
