Is anyone else noticing that Castille is closer than ever to overtaking Terrelle?

Castille's blocking is still not as good as Smith's, but that's about the only advantage he has on him now. Castille has been very solid (and better than Smith) at catching and running the ball.

Any chance he starts over him this year?

all very good points but for me they all fall secondary the fact we need a back capable of blocking well.

so for that reason i dont see him beating him out tbh.

Castille is the man. If they choose to keep two then I could see Castille getting more playing time and Smith being a 'goal line/short yardage' fullback (if there is such a thing). If they keep just one it'll be Castille.

Castille's emergence probably lead to Shipp's being cut. I think the front office believed they would go in with 4 RBs and Smith, but Castille played too well. So we will go in with 3 RBs and 2 FBs

Of course I have no fact or supporting quotes, but that also means nobody can disprove it!! I think I just officially started a rumor!

I think Castille gives us an added dimension in the red zone with Castille in the backfield, just like Cooley in Washington for example. A FB that can block, but can also catch out of the backfield is a huge weapon on the goalline. It means that a linebacker has to be assigned to him.

I agree with you that it was a factor.

Oh, and there was 1.7M in there somewhere too...... :)

I love Castille...he's a straight up football player. He can catch and run, but he can also lay down some great blocks. He's not a Larry Centers type fullback (and it's no secret that I am not the biggest fan of LC, simply because he was a fullback who didn't block). He is a good blocker and will be able to improve.

I'm getting worried because I think cutting Smith would be a big mistake.

Centers might not have been the traditional lead blocker on running plays but he was one of the best ever in pass blocking. His chips on defensive ends were great. He slowed a lot of rushers who had their knees buckled by a Centers chip. The rushers were always a little cautious after the experience.

WITH ALL THE OTHER STUFF GOING ON, HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY FIND TIME TO WORRY ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!!!!!!

(Oh, sorry, I think I just had an anxiety attack over the sudden lack of threads on the QB situation)

I want my cake and plan to eat it to. Both guys make the team IMO.

I agree. There's a lot of talk that by lining up Castille on the outside you can determine the defensive play call. If a LB covers him it's man coverage, if not, it's zone.
