Let's say that the rumors about the Cavaliers potentially shopping Kevin Love are true. How do you feel about the following?

Phoenix gets
Kevin Love ($15.7 million this season, player option through 2016)
Shawn Marion (1.4, expiring)

Cleveland gets
Markieff Morris (3.2, 8.0 next season, 2019)
Marcus Morris (3.1, 5.0 next season, 2019)
Isaiah Thomas (7.2, 2018)

Keep in mind that Love could bolt this summer. Assume that he would "say the right things" about considering a long-term future in Phoenix, but refuse to commit to an immediate extension.

Both Morrises have "poisoned pill" contracts, but the trade works anyway, according to RealGM.

Isn't Marion retiring?

Edit: Just saw your expiring text.

Why would Suns waste anything on Marion when he will be done next year? Go for a no name rookie or something.

It depends how confident the Suns are whether Love extends his contract or at least opts in next season.

If he opts in, I would do this deal.

Emotional boost of having him retire as a Sun, plus McMorris's departure would leave the Suns thin at SF.

Emotional boost? For who? None of the Suns current players have ever played with him. It would be cool to see him retire a Sun but I doubt the team cares.

The Morri are PFs. So that would leave us with Love and Wright as our only PFs.

Love and Wright as our PFs is a HUGE boost over the Morri plus Wright, simply because Love would play heavy minutes and Wright would come in simply as a breather.

that said, I don't see any way that trade happens. Is Cleveland really looking to shop him right now, even though they've seemingly just hit their stride?

Besides that Cleveland would likely not do that: Kevin Love is a career loser and he would bail on the Suns anyway.

But he is awesome for fantasy league basketball when he gets to be the man on a team and winning barely matters.

This is much how I see it. I'd do the trade providing Love commits to remain a Sun. Getting a star player has been the Suns goal all along.

The only thing that matters to me is about Love bolting. If he says he would be committed to stay, they hell yes, I'd do that trade. If he didn't, then I'd be reluctant--but only because Markieff is included.

Yes, I'd do that trade in an instant. I think we'd have to add a bit more sugar too the pot though. I don't think Cleveland could handle the indignity of trading him for a package like that when they so recently gave up a potential generational talent to get him. Unless we added Len to the mix (which we shouldn't) I think we'd need to throw in some draft picks.

Love is not a super-duper star, at least he does not look like on in Cleveland, but I think Dragic and he would make for a superb combo, and his rebounding and outlet passing would take our transition offense to another level. Defense... would obviously be a concern, but I think overall we'd actually improve on that end by virtue of a huge improvement in rebounding.

I'm sure people will say it would create a "50 and fade" team, but I think it would be a roster with strong similarities to the Mavs team that won a title (right down to the 3 PG attack and Shawn Marion), the key would be Len's continued development as the defensive anchor.

Would Cleveland actually make that trade? I would make that trade even without assurances from Love that he will sign an extension.

Agreed, especially if he's staying here. Love would be a much upgraded Frye, and we'd rid ourselves of the point guard glut.

I'd make the trade if we got positive input from Love and his agent, otherwise no.

Bledsoe
Dragic
Tucker
Love
Len

that's a pretty solid starting five. Should be a good rebounding team and could spread the floor with Love at the 4, with Dragic and Tucker being shooters too. If we didn't have to give up the Lakers pick or Bledsoe or Dragic, I'd probably do it. We'd just have to hope that Warren/Len end up being a stars, otherwise we'd probably be looking at a ceiling of low 50's with that squad forever.

CLE has playing really well since LeBron came back, I doubt they look for such a major shakeup.

Except that Love and Dragic both are disastrous defenders.

As well as teams counting on Love to be their star having a history of winning 25 games.

they are disasterous defenders, but we'd be solid at the other 3 positions. And while Love's teams haven't been even close to good, I don't think he's played with two players as good as I believe Dragic and Bledsoe to be. It's not like he'd make ANY team he'd go to worse.

and again, I don't think it makes us contenders for a title. But i do think it makes us a solid playoff team in the 50 plus range. Then you just have to hope Len and Warren really develop into something special.

Yeah, check out Minny's bang up success now that he isnt dragging them down anymore.

Minny's record the last 4 years with Love: 72-78

Minny's record the last 4 years without Love: 32-92

Suuuure, one might look at those numbers and come to the conclusion that Love was playing near .500 ball with one of the worst rosters in the league around him, but that would just be silly.

You're right, it doesn't make us contenders for a title, at least not right away. With that lineup we become contenders when Len is getting serious consideration for the All Star team.

I would make that trade, but I would want assurances from Love that we can match any offer. I would even add a pick. Love is a better fit here than in Cleveland. His shooting and rebounding are the perfect fit with Len and PJ.

The twins would probably be a good fit in Cleveland too.

I think the deal works with or without Marion, and I have no particular desire to get him back--even for sentimental reasons.

if the assault charges are true M&M brothers just destroyed their future and this hypothetical trade scenario. I guess one was chocolate covered peaNUT the other not so much ... if its true :bang:

Hope the accusations are false or there go almost all of the playoff chances if Markieff gets dragged down by it. :bang:
