Lol, at first I thought you were talking about Dan Langhi.

Well, we might as well hand the Pacific over to Sacramento now that they have Jones ;)

I have not read anywhere about any players that have been invited to the suns training camp other than the 14 players on their roster.

Here is the summer roster and I thought that Stephen Graham had a chance to get a make good contract for training camp. I guess that is not going to happen. They probably do not need any additional players, but usually do have more than 14 there for camp.

Has anybody read anything about additional players being invited?

Has anybody read anything abut this player?

He did not have a good summer camp, but is supposed to have talent and just needs time.

I remember seeing him in a dunk contest in 2003.

He can dunk the ball from the free throw line. :)

I mentioned in a previous thread that I thought "Fat" Lever's son or relative had been invited to the Suns camp in Tucson. I believe I saw it in an Arizona Republic article.

If my memory serves me correct, he is a 6'3" guard who played in a league in Mexico. It sounds like a goodwill gesture to me as the Suns are stocked at guard.

Right, but that's not "training camp." It's some other thing, which I think is voluntary. (Come to think of it, it must be voluntary, since at least two non-Phoenix NBA players -- Marbury and Tsakalidis -- are there instead of with their own teams.)

I might have missed something, but the camp in Tucson is training camp. Marbury and Tsk Tsk have been at the voluntary workouts at AWA.

Yes, I remember that post now. It is to training camp in Tucson. Not sure why he is going to be there unless he wants to get some exposure and try to make an NBA team sometime.

I also read in the paper a while back there were 3 Golbetrotters practicing with the suns, but am sure that was while they are in Phx.

Oh ********, I should just keep my mouth shut. Sorry.

So training camp and the voluntary workouts are happening at the same time? I'm confused.

Anyway, I thought I read that Lever was at the voluntary things, not official training camp.

Not sure this clears it up either other than the dates of training camp.

Game dedicated to the memory of U of A basketball player Shawntinice Polk
Tickets Now Available for Suns Intra-Squad Exhibition Game in Tucson

Posted: Sept. 29, 2005

Tickets for the Phoenix Suns intra-squad exhibition game in Tucson are now available to the public. The game, which will feature the NBA’s reining MVP Steve Nash and All-Stars Amare’ Stoudemire and Shawn Marion, will take place at the McKale Center on the campus of the University of Arizona on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m.

Doors open for the game at 6 p.m., with fans being treated to appearances by the Suns Dancers, Adio Sol Patrol and the Suns Gorilla.

The suggested donation for admission is $7 for adults, $3 for kids ages 18 and under and U of A students with current university ID. Tickets are available online at arizonaathletics.com, by calling 800-452-CATS, and at the McKale Center Ticket Office, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds from the game will go to the University of Arizona to support university programs.

The intra-squad game, which will be the defending Pacific Division Champions’ first public on-court appearance of the 2005-06 NBA season, is part of the club’s training camp, which will be held in Tucson for the first time ever.

At the game, the Suns will also honor the memory of University of Arizona basketball player Shawntinice Polk, a senior center who died Monday morning at the age of 22 after collapsing in McKale Center. The Suns will conduct their preseason training camp on the U of A campus Tuesday-Monday, October 4-10. The Suns 2005-06 preseason home opener will take place on October 15 at 7 PM, as the Suns host the Los Angeles Clippers at America West Arena.

I don't really follow prospects, so I don't know anything about him. How did he do in the summer league? At least one site had him on the first-round bubble, but he ended up not getting drafted at all. Can he do anything besides dunk?

From Draft Express
Mindaugas Katelynas
Has all the physical characteristics an NBA team looks for in a small forward. At 6-9 and with a nice wingspan, he certainly has the body, although he is a little skinny. The most impressive thing about Katelynas is his incredible athletic ability, which rivals basically any player in this draft. He moves very well and is extremely quick up and down the floor. On top of that, he probably has the best vertical leap of any player his size in the draft, with an NCAA slam dunk contest trophy to back that up. He not only jumps for height, but also for distance, thanks to his excellent hang-time. He can receive the ball right on the outskirts of the lane, and elevate for a dunk without needing a head start to finish strong and comfortably, thanks to his athleticism and wingspan.

Offensively, Katelynas' role in college appeared to be limited from the two tapes of his we've acquired this year. His team loved to run the floor, and so does he, so he was the perfect big man to do that in their system as he usually beats most guards down the floor. This is how he scored a lot of his points, along with the many offensive rebounds he would collect. His motor is outstanding and he never stops moving for even a second. Katelynas is excellent moving off the ball as he understands the concept of team play and looks very efficient executing in set plays, as you would expect from a European prospect. He is a solid passer, and plays the game patiently, almost never taking bad shots (56 FG%, 46% 3P) and always playing within himself.

Katelynas is an excellent rebounder thanks to his physical attributes, motor and sheer desire. He knows how to box out and position himself for rebounds and has pretty nice hands as well. These same characteristics also make him a shotblocking threat when he is guarding players who are smaller than him, which will happen often in the NBA if he's playing his projected position at the 3.

In general, he is a very hard worker both on and off the court, who never complains about his role and always gives 100% effort. He is a team player who sets excellent picks and is willing to hustle and sacrifice his body to give his team an advantage. He isn't soft in the least bit and will take a charge or hit the deck without thinking twice if the opportunity presents itself. He plays the game with a lot of energy and has a great court demeanor, appearing to be an excellent teammate.

He is a very intelligent player who understands the game and has a huge upside to continue to improve thanks to his size, smarts, body, freakish athleticism, work ethic, attitude and excellent feel for the game. He's a true sleeper in this draft.

Thanks, sunsfn. I actually meant something a little less rose-colored. These pre-draft profiles always make players sounds to be better than they really are.

"The Spurs got Stephen Graham for their camp......"

He was the one guy from the summer league team I hoped the Suns would bring to training camp... it didn't figure to happen because he didn't fit the Suns style - he actually plays defense.

I wouldn't mind getting a look at Katelynas though I don't remember him getting any mention with the summer league team... not enough to fix his name in my mind, anyway.

Yeah I know, it sounds like he should have went top 10 instead of not being drafted.

They also added Jawad Williams.

Wow, what are the spurs going to do with all of these players. I think they have a full house, so Graham and Williams will probably not sign there, just be in their camp.

I do not understand the suns not having a couple more players in their camp.

Graham impressed me in that he really does appear to be the size of Maggette from the spurs. He can handle the ball and shoot a little??

Katelynas intrigued me during the summer leagues. On paper he's a great fit for the Phoenix Suns. He runs the court well, jumps like a gazelle, he's strong on the boards, and he is an accurate three-point shooter. However on the court he just didn't show a lot. He didn't look bad though.

I don't want to look up his numbers right now, but from what I saw he has say nice-looking three-point shot. If my memory serves me correctly he made most of the open ones I saw him take. I don't remember him being a particularly strong defender though.

After the summer leagues I remember thinking that I would have preferred the Phoenix Suns to sign Stephen Graham instead of Dijon Thompson. Graham isn't really a shooter although I didn't think that he shot poorly in the summer leagues. He's good at going to the basket and creating opportunities for his teammates. his defense was impressive.

First Lonnie Jones is in Sacramento's training camp. Now it's Stephen Graham playing with San Antonio. I feel like I've been kicked square in the balls.

Stephen Graham looks like a nice player, but it is unlikely he would do anything Diaw can't do better.

The jury is out on Thompson, but he can one thing the Suns like - shoot. Now all he needs to do become stronger and learn to play.

Phoenix completes training-camp roster

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns signed rookie free agent Anthony Lever-Pedroza to a contract Friday, completing their 15-man roster for training camp.

Lever-Pedroza, the son of former Arizona State and NBA star Lafayette "Fat" Lever, has played two professional seasons in Mexico and averaged 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in four games for the Mexican National Team at the FIBA Americas Championship from Aug. 24-Sept. 4.

He also played for Sacramento's summer league team this year.

A native of Tucson, Lever-Pedroza played three years of college ball at Oregon, setting the school season record for three-point accuracy with 50 percent (53-of-106) in 2001-02.

Guess he is on the summer league roster
