There, I just threw that out there in classic forum style without choosing to go through the trouble of showing proof or citing any pro scouting credentials. He is the best QB in the draft. I watched enough of this kid's tenure in college to even claim arrogantly that he is much better than Geno Smith :D

Could be. The reality of this year's qb class is that there is not one that is standing out above the others. I think the Cards will draft a qb in the early rounds. I really don't know which one they should and will choose.

I also will add with that being said, Wilson is second round material and if one wants to see a QB break down under the slightest pressure and look really bad...watch Geno Smith play without solid pocket protection :)

I thought so a couple months ago, but he hasn't elevated his play at either the Senior Bowl or the Combine like I thought he would.

I put him in the glob of QBs I am ok with (Tyler Wilson, Ryan Nassib, Tyler Bray, Sean Renfree) and will leave it at that.

I agree.

Like many, I've let myself be influenced by Wilson's showing at the Senior Bowl, which was okay but not outstanding. I've been on the guy for over 2 years, started to question him being the best, and let EJ Manuel creep into my thoughts as an option for the Cards. If you go back over old posts, I don't think I ever said one good thing about Manuel. Now, I was okay with him over Wilson :doi:.

This type of thinking is vey shortsighted on my part. I'm letting three days in Mobile at an all-star game, where incidentally he was named outstanding QB of the week, change an opinion that contradicts two years of actual playing the games. I'm back on him. Give me Wilson at 38 and let's roll with him.

In November if you told me that the Cards would draft Warmack 1 and Wilson 2, I, and many others, would be ecstatic.

The issue is that he looked like a 1st rounder his Jr. year, and then looked pretty average his Sr. year. That is why I expected him to shine at the All Star games, he was finally away from a terrible situation in Arkansas. However, he has looked more like the Sr. QB than the Jr. QB so far this offseason.

I don't think there is a best qb in this draft. I believe if you gave them each one throw and told them they would be the top pick if they hit the side of the barn at 40 yards away, they would each miss it. Half would not reach it and the other half would over throw it.

INDIANAPOLIS -- In the past two mock drafts between myself and Mel Kiper, only one of us had a quarterback going in the first round.

I had West Virginia's Geno Smith going to Buffalo at No. 8. With his workouts on Sunday at the NFL draft combine in Indy, Smith (Scouts Inc. grade: 89) did nothing to hurt the perception that he'll go in the first round of the 2013 draft.

Smith had best all-around day, in my opinion. He threw the ball well and had good accuracy on deep balls. He also ran the fastest 40 of the QBs with a 4.59, which was the same as Cam Newton. In a league in which mobility is becoming more important, his time doesn't hurt him. He was as top performer across the board with a vertical jump at 33.5 inches and the broad jump at 10-feet-3.

From what I saw of his throws, Smith was the most consistently accurate of all the QBs on Sunday. He had good touch on his throws down the field. As is the case with most of these guys, it matters little. But you'd rather work out well, because it shows that you can handle the pressure of the combine. It also shows that wasn't out there looking tight and tense.

Here is the insider link from McShay for all the QBs (includes above)

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/notebook?page=combineqb0224

Arkansas' Tyler Wilson was a little inconsistent, but he had one of the better days. He was driving the ball down the field, and also made some strong throws. Glennon and Wilson were a little better than expected throwing the ball down field today. They're in the top five or six QBs of this draft class, and with Smith, they're jockeying for position in the first two rounds.

Wilson will be there in the second and possibly the third.

So basically Geno Smith went to the combine and was the best in pretty much every catagory including the most important one...accuracy.

I am hoping that if we don't take Geno we take Wilson or Bray.

Slowest 40 times

Landry Jones, Oklahoma (5.11)
Ryan Nassib, Syracuse (5.06)
Tyler Bray, Tennessee (5.05)
Brad Sorensen, Southern Utah (4.97)
Tyler Wilson, Arkansas (4.95)

The sound you hear is Ryan Nassib coming back to the second round as well.

Glennon and Manuel struggled with accuracy all day. Glennon is really looking like Derek Anderson part 2.

The thing with these QBs is that there probably isn't a single outstanding prospect.

The thing with these QBs is that there will be a best QB, but it's going to be a best QB "for me." I think that we'll find that each team has quarterbacks graded wildly different, even if four or five go within 20-25 selections of one another.

Tyler Wilson may nor may not be the best all-around quarterback prospect in this draft--I think he may be, which is why I'm so high on Chopper's bandwagon. How that equates to the Cards' (or any other team's) estimation of his value is a fairly open question.

Yeah, I have no idea if he gets drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round. Right now, I think he makes it to the 3rd.

I think his absolute basement is a top-shelf #2 who can come in and not take anything off the table. I think that's worth a 3rd round pick at the minimum. How long has Kellen Clemens been keeping a job in the NFL? He was chosen 49th overall(!).

I just get the feeling like of the 5-8 guys that we're talking about, only 2 or 3 will actually end up being named the starter of games--earning starting jobs. This is a great class to firm up your #2 QB position with, but it's a terrible class to find an immediate-term starter.

As good a time as any to call our attention to a nice Arizona Republic piece by USA Today draft guy, Tony Pauline on how prospects at each position did at the Combine and which ones were "Risers" and "Sliders." He included impressions of how guys did in position drills. Pretty much spot-on.

I can't remember a recent draft where no QB was considered a "franchise QB". This class may very well be just like Leinart, Cutler & VY all over, even though Cutler is solid but not great.

I'm not spending a #1 on any of these guys if I had a choice.

With this class, I don't pick a QB until round 3. In round 3 I pick Tyler Wilson, Tyler Bray or Ryan Nassib. If they are all gone, I grab Sean Renfree in round 4.

I am not sure how you would grade all 4 of those guys over Smith? Especially Bray and Nassib. Nassib is a one read QB who, by most scouts reports, is far from NFL ready.

Bray, as one scout put it, 'has some of the worst footwork he has ever seen' on tape.

I could understand the arguement not taking Smith at 7 if you dont believe he is worth it, but to say these 4 guys are a better prospect is frankly ridiculous.

I stated this on a previous thread where you questioned the "readiness" of Ryan Nassib, every report I have read states that running the pro system of Doug Ragonne (the Bills new head coach) made Nassib one of the most NFL ready QBs in this draft. His system was not a one read system.

As far as Bray is concerned, he may have footwork questions, but he also has a cannon for an arm.

Why do I elevate these players over Geno Smith? Because Geno Smith had top talent and lost 5 straight after being undefeated. Geno Smith couldn't rally a team which played in the Big 12 and had both Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey. If he underachieves in college with top talent, what is he going to do in the Pros when he doesn't have the talent advantage. Geno Smith is very similar to Matt Barkley in that respect.

In the end, I would rather take the better position players available in the first two rounds and pick from the QB scraps available in round 3 than take Geno Smith at #7.
