4.2 at the combine!
I'm not willing to place money on it, but I'd be inclined to believe that that 4.2 time was "extremely unofficial."

The NFL lists top Combine scores and I'm pretty sure the fastest forty was somewhere in the mid 4.3's.

Update - From a post on another thread:

Florida State cornerback and kick returner Michael Ray Garvin, at 5-8 and 182 pounds, was not invited to the N.F.L. combine.

He's so fast, he ran a 4.2 even though he wasn't there.

Published: April 12, 2009
WAYNE, N.J. — ...Garvin, an all-American in football and in track and field, has posted times of 4.24 and 4.28 in the 40-yard dash.

Second report sounds as though it may have orginated from a Garvin or FSU press release.

WR: Justin Brown, Hampton (6-2, 200, Sr.)<

A junior college transfer with good size, long arms, and quickness. Brown is a tall move-the-chains receiver with solid hands. Though the former Hampton star does not have top-level speed (timed at 4.56 in the forty), Brown led the MEAC in receiving yards (887), averaging 80.6 per game. The first team All MEAC player finished second in the conference in catches per game with a 5.1 average.

still early. Expect another 4 or 6 more.

Plus the Cardinals are already at 72 players on the roster (that is without picks).

So glad we don't need to find at least two UDFA who can come in and start right away.

Graves said they would only pick 8 or 9. They already have lots of players on the team and there is a roster limit that they can't exceed.

Chase Bullock's pro day

Meanwhile, unheralded Terp LB Chase Bullock, who can play both inside and out, also ran surprisingly well, clocking around 4.6 seconds for the 40; Bullock also did 26 reps in the bench press, had a 34-inch vertical and timed in the 4.3 range in the short shuttle.

who is shane morales

Monday, October 13, 2008

Shane is a possession receiver a lot like Oregon State football stand out Mike Hass. He has very sure hands. In 2006 Shane played in the Idaho game and made one reception. In 2007 he had more of a season, making 16 catches for 115 yard. Had a career high game against Cincinnati. He also made 3 catches in the 2007 Emerald bowl that the Oregon State football team won. Made a 4 yard catch in the 2007 civil war that put the beavers on Oregon’s 1 yard line for the score to tie the game. Shane has made a big impact on the Oregon state football team by helping bail out Oregon state quarterback Lyle Moevao with his sure hands. He runs good routs and always seems to find a way to get ahold of the ball when it comes in his direction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Paul Putignano
Signal Staff Writer

This season, he accumulated 54 receptions for 743 yards and eight touchdowns, helping the Beavers win their third bowl game in three years with a 3-0 victory over Pittsburgh in the Brut Sun Bowl.

His increased production, strong pro day on March 13 in Corvallis, Ore., work ethic, and natural skills have garnered interest from several teams heading into today’s NFL draft, said Morales’ agent Joe Aloisi of Sports Management Worldwide.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Paul Buker, The Oregonian

Comment:Morales' low ranking (No.99 at WR!) indicates he can't play at the pro level. ... all I know is, despite not having big-time speed, he was able to get open against any secondary in the Pac-10.

i don't remember seeing Phillip Hunt's name on the list. He seems like a pretty good guy to take a chance on and fits the OLB pass rushing mode.
