And Audioslave, one of my favorite bands, now defunct...

AUDIOSLAVE

"Your Time Has Come"

Now one fell asleep in the street and he never woke up
And now one died in pieces in his bed with a mouth full of bones
And one threatened me long ago, I saw him melt in the bright light of day
And one laid to rest in a field under stories and clones

I've been wanderin sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come
Your time has come

Now one took some bullets in the chest in a deal gone wrong
And one got a little too depressed and he went and jumped the gun
One got shot right in the face and he somehow survived
But he doesn't know my name or who I am and I'm not surprised

I've been wanderin sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come

I've been wanderin sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come

I've seen 50,000 names all engraved on a stone
Most of them men under the grave years before I was born
All of them left brothers and sisters and mothers behind
And most of their family and friends have all had their time

I've been wanderin sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
And I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come

I've been wanderin sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
And I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come
Long before your time has come
Long before your time has come
And your time has come

Dido's Thank You. My theme song for a while back in the day.

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
it's not so bad and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

Push the door, I'm home at last
and I'm soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

I'm not a huge country music fan, but this song by Tim McGraw is awesome. When get married and fall in love, I hope to dance with ""that guy" to this song...

"It's Your Love"

Fixed that for you.

Whoa, whoa, whoa....Audioslave broke up???

edit: :( yep...a few weeks ago...:(

I was thinking the same thing when I saw it...just adding to my crappy week.

Oh well, sounds like they were screwing him over money. I wonder how his new stuff will be. I love "Seasons" from his first solo album.

Candlebox - Far Behind

I've always loved this song...

Now maybe
I didn't mean to treat you bad
But I did it anyway
And now maybe
Some would say your life was sad
But you lived it anyway
And so maybe
Your friends they stand around they watch your crumble
As you falter to the ground
And then someday
Your friends they stand beside as you were flying
Oh you were flying oh so high

But them someday people look at you for what they call their own
They watch you suffer
Yeah they hear you calling home
But then some day we could take our time
To brush the leaves aside so you can reach us
But you left me far behind

Now maybe
I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain

No, no, no
Couldn't share the pain, they watch you suffer

Now maybe I could have made my own mistakes
But I live with what I've known
And then maybe we might share in something great
But won't you look at where we've grown
Won't you look at where we've gone
But then someday comes
tomorrow holds a sense of what I fear for you in my mind
As you trip the final line
And that cold day when you lost control
Shame you left my life so soon you should have told me
But you left me far behind
Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
No, no, no

Oh no
Oh no no no no...
Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
I said times have changed your friends
They come and watch you crumble to the ground
They watch you suffer
Yeah, they hold you down
Hold you down
Now maybe brother, maybe love
I didn't mean to treat you bad
But you left me far behind
Left me far behind
Left me far
Behind

and now a couple from my favorite EMO band, the long running AFI (aka A Fire Inside)

Kill Caustic

So I'm feeling much worse now
You're better. You're better
Your designer drug won't work
won't work for me

Connect to a three-volt
I hope your battery dies
How could you run on such
on such voltage?

All the same
I remain
The one to blame and I'm
Demonized
Purified
Justified
As you let yourself show

So now you'll love these screams
Whats left of me? (Don't speak)
Love these screams like I do (Don't speak)

As the infinite stops cold
Just nine and the six are gone
Guess I was the one to
Ride that dirty ride
That is turning so fast now
I cannot hold on
But at this pace
Who would, Who would want to?

All the same
I remain
The one to blame and I'm
Demonized
Purified
Justified
As you let yourself show

So now you'll love these screams
Whats left of me? (Don't speak)
Love these screams like I do (Don't speak)

Don't ever speak my name.

Don't ever speak my name again, don't ever speak it.
Don't ever speak my name again, don't speak, don't speak.
Don't speak my name.

So now you'll love these screams
Whats left of me? (Don't speak)
Love these screams like I do (Don't speak)

Summer Shudder

Listen when I say, when I say it’s real
Real life goes undefined
Why must you be so missable?
Everything you take, makes it more unreal
Real lies are undefined, how can this be so miserable?

Under the summer rain, I burnt away
Under the summer rain, (Burn!) You turned away

Listen, I can't make, make a sound or feel
Feel fine, I kiss the lies, why must they be so kissable?
Listen as I break, break the forth wall's seal.
Gorgeous shines suicide, when will we be invisible?

Under the summer rain, I burnt away
Under the summer rain, (Burn!) We burned away
Under the summer rain, I burnt away
Under the summer rain, You turned away

This is the fall; this is the long way down
And our lives look smaller now, and our lives look so small
This is the fall; this is the long way down
And our lives look smaller now, and our lives look so small…

Under the summer rain, I burnt away
Under the summer rain, (Burn!) We burnt away

Under the summer rain, I burnt away
Under the summer rain, (Burn!) We burnt away

Under the summer rain, (Burn!) I burnt away
Under the summer rain, (Burn!) You turned away..

Possibly my favorite song by him:

I have seen peace. I have seen pain,
Resting on the shoulders of your name.
Do you see the truth through all their lies?
Do you see the world through troubled eyes?
And if you want to talk about it anymore,
Lie here on the floor and cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.

I have seen birth. I have seen death.
Lived to see a lover's final breath.
Do you see my guilt? Should I feel a fright?
Is the fire of hesitation burning bright?
And if you want to talk about it once again,
On you I depend. I'll cry on your shoulder.
You're a friend.

You and I have lived through many things.
I'll hold on to your heart.
I wouldn't cry for anything,
But don't go tearing your life apart.

I have seen fear. I have seen faith.
Seen the look of anger on your face.
And if you want to talk about what will be,
Come and sit with me, and cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.
And if you want to talk about it anymore,
Lie here on the floor and cry on my shoulder,
Once again.
Cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.

still a good one. Such a damn good song.

"The First Cut Is The Deepest"
Sheryl Crow

I would have given you all of my heart
But there's someone who's torn it apart
And he's taken just all that I have
But if you want I'll try to love again
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know...

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
And I'm sure gonna give you a try
If you want I'll try to love again, (try)
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know...

OOHHH,
The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
But when it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
But I'm sure gonna give you a try
Cuz if you want I'll try to love again
(Try to love again, try to love again)
Baby, I'll try to love again but I know, OOHHH....

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
When it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worst

OOHHH, the first cut is the deepest
Baby I know (baby I know)
The first cut is the deepest
Try to love again...

"Big Sky"
-The Kinks-

Big sky looked down on all the people looking up at the big sky.
Everybody pushing one another around
Big sky feels sad when he sees the children scream and cry
But the big skys too big to let it get him down.

Big sky too big to cry
Big sky too high to see
People like you and me

One day we'll be free, we wont care, just you see
til that day can be, dont let it get you down
When I feel that the world is too much for me
I think of the big sky, and nothing matters much to me.

Big sky looked down on all the people who think they got problems
They get depressed and they hold their head in their hands and cry.
People lift up their hands and they look up to the big sky
But big sky is too big to sympathize

Big skys too occupied
Though he would like to try
And he feels bad inside
Big skys too big to cry

One day we'll be free, we wont care, just you wait and see
til that day can be, dont let it get you down.
When I feel that the world is too much for me
I think of the big sky, and nothing matters much to me.

FAT LITTLE LOSER As sung by David Bowie on EXTRAS. A great moment in television history:
-------------------------------------

Little fat man who sold his soul
Little fat man who sold his dream
Chubby little loser

Chubby little loser
National joke

Pathetic little fat man
No one's bloody laughing
The clown that no one laughs at
They all just wish he'd die

He's so depressed at being useless
The fat man takes his own life
He's so depressed at being hated
Fatty takes his own life
Fatso takes his own life
He blows his bloated face off
He blows his stupid brains out

He sold his soul for a shard of fame
Catchphrase and wig and the jokes are lame
He's got no style
He's got no grace
He's banal and facile
He's a fat waste of space

He's banal and facile
He's a fat waste of space

See his pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug
See his pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug

See his pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug
The little fat man with the pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug
The little fat man with the pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug
He's a little fat man with a pugnose face
Pug, pug, pug, pug

"Ashes of San Miguel," Roger Clyne

This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Maybe the second saddest. Maybe the first. Dunno which.

Clyne wrote it about a good friend who died of cancer.

I spun a bottle on a map
to tell us which way to go
now we're hellbound south
in that Hermosillo
got the ashes of my best friend in a cremation jar
on the shot-gun seat of the car

I got the top chopped off
got the windows down
one last tour through our happy happy huntin' ground
though we never made a kill
that was never really what we came down here for

So give me a sign, amigo
can ya tell me,
Did ya go down laughin'
when ya finally fell?
we had tales to tell
and songs to sing
did you get horns or
did they give you wings
either works just as well
ashes of San Miguel

It's one-hundred and one under this fanatical sun
black-eyed federales dripping sweat on their machine guns
sayin'
'Drive on slow Gringo,
You ain't as savage as you think you are.'
Well I bought a box of firecrackers and liquor to go
Vamanos amigo, para Bahi a Kino
everything's here
I got the pesos and the beer
still ain't no sign of your ghost

So give me a sign amigo
can ya tell me,
Did ya go down laughin'
when ya finally fell?
we had tales to tell
and songs to sing
did you get horns or
did they give you wings
either works just as well
ashes of San Miguel

The desert's lovely, dark and deep
and I got no more promises left to keep
Yeah but why, tell me why,
I gotta drain a bottle dry
before I can cry
before I can cry
over you...

Well there's bones on the beach
and there's ashes in the jar
ghost in the air laughin' at fools at the bar
and somewhere inside there's a river that don't run
with to the sea no more
So life is cheap here and death is rich
they finally got you like a son of a bitch
and if I could do it again
I'd cry loud at your hospital bed

So give me a sign amigo
can ya tell me,
Did ya go down laughin'
when ya finally fell?
we had tales to tell
and songs to sing
did you get horns or
did they give you wings
either way it's just as well
ashes of San Miguel

while this song is not relevant personally now (although i still heart it), it would have slain me four years ago.

Stars
"Your Ex-Lover Is Dead"

God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said 'yes I think we've met before'
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name...

This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
Tried to reach deep but you couldn't get in
Now you're outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It's nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn't choose
I'll write you a postcard
I'll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love...

Live through this, and you won't look back...
Live through this, and you won't look back...
Live through this, and you won't look back...

There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save

I'm not sorry there's nothing to save...

Marillion "Warm Wet Circles". A great song. Really like how Fish uses the 'warm wet circles' imagery from several different angles.

--------------------------------------------------
On promenades where drunks propose to lonely arcade mannequins
Where ceremonies pause at the jeweller's shop display
Feigning casual silence in strained romantic interludes
Till they commit themselves to the muted journey home
And the pool player rests on another cue
Last nights hero picking up his dues
A honeymoon gambled on a ricochet
She's staring at the brochures at the holidays

Chalking up a name in your hometown
Standing all your mates to another round
Laughing at the world till the barman wipes away the warm wet circles
The warm wet circles

I saw teenage girls like gaudy moths
A classroom's shabby butterflies
Flirt in the glow of stranded telephone boxes
Planning white lace weddings from smeared hearts and token proclamations
Rolled from stolen lipsticks across the razored webs of glass
Sharing cigarettes with experience with her giggling jealous confidantes
She faithfully traces his name with quick bitten fingernails
Through the tears of condensation that'll cry through the night
As the glancing headlights of the last bus kiss adolescence goodbye
In a warm wet circle

Like a mothers kiss on your first broken heart, a warm wet circle
Like a bullet hole in Central Park, a warm wet circle
And I'll always surrender to the warm wet circles

She nervously undressed in the dancing beams of the Fidra lighthouse
Giving it all away before it's too late
She'll let a lovers tongue move in a warm wet circle
Giving it all away and showing no shame
She'll take a mother's kiss on her first broken heart a warm wet circle
She'll realise that she played her part in a warm wet circle

I am still living with your ghost
Lonely and dreaming of the west coast
I dont want to be your downtime
I dont want to be your stupid game

With my big black boots and an old suitcase
I do believe Ill find myself a new place
I dont want to be the bad guy
I dont want to do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just want to see some palm trees
Go and try and shake away this disease

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

I am still dreaming of your face
Hungry and hollow for all the things you took away

I dont want to be your good time
I dont want to be your fall-back crutch anymore

Ill walk right out into a brand new day
Insane and rising in my own weird way
I dont want to be the bad guy

I dont want to do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just want to feel some sunshine
I just want to find some place to be alone

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

Not just one of my fave female singer/song-writers of all-time, but in general.... she's amazing:

"Not About Love"
-Fiona Apple-

The early cars
Already are
Drawing deep breaths past my door
And last night's phrases
Sick with lack of basis
Are still writhing on my floor

And it doesn't seem fair
That your wicked words should work
In holding me down
it doesn't seem right
To take information
Given at close range
For the gag
And the bind
And the ammunition round

Conversation once colored by esteem
Became dialogue as a diagram of a play for blood
Took a vacation, my palate got clean
Now I could taste your agenda
While you spit in your cud

And it doesn't make sense
I should fall for the kingcraft of a meritless crown
No, it doesn't seem right
To take information
Given at close range
For the gag
And the bind
And the ammunition round

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I can't stop falling out

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I can't stop falling out
I miss that stupid ache

What is this posture
I have to stare at
That's what he said when I'm sittin' up straight
Change the name of the game 'cause he lost
And he knew he was wrong but he knew it too late
But I'm not being fair
'Cause I chose to listen to that filthy mouth
But I'd like to choose right
Take all the things that I've said that he stole
Put 'em in a sack
Swing 'em over my shoulder
Turn on my heel
Step out of his sight
Try to live in a lovelier light

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I cant stop falling out

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I cant stop falling out
I miss that stupid ache

"Friends of P"
-the Rentals-

I'm a good guy for a gal
So won't you look my palm over
I've got time for a chat
So won't you tell me my future
I'm gonna break down at fifty
And I'm not quite a stallion
I'm a good guy for a gal
And I'm mentally slipping
Oh yeah, oh yeah
What's that ya' see?
Oh boy, find out what's up with me
Oh yeah, oh yeah
What's that ya' see?
Tell me more of what's gonna be
If you're friends with P.
Well, then you're friends with me
If you're down with P.
Well, then you're down with me
Friends of P.
Friends of P.
Friends of P.
Friends...
Somebody's fame and fortune is gonna come to me early
I get two loves in my life, and I'm dying at 90

Papa Roach - Forever

I seriously can't get enough of this song...but then, I love songs with a strong bass line.

In the brightest hour
Of my darkest day
I realized
What is wrong with me

Can't get over you
Can't get through to you
It's been a helter-skelter, romance from the start

Take these memories
That are haunting me
Of a paper man cut into shreds
By his own pair of scissors
He'll never forgive her...
He'll never forgive her...

Because days! Come and go!
But my feelings for you are forever
Because days come and go
But my feelings for you are forever

Sitting by the fire
On a lonely night
Hanging over from another good time
With another girl...
Little dirty girl
You should listen to this story of a life

You're my heroin-
In this moment I'm lonely
fullfilling my darkest dreams
All these drugs, all these women
I'm never forgiving...
this broken heart of mine

Because days! Come and go!
But my feelings for you are forever
Because days come and go
But my feelings for you are forever

One last kiss...
Before I go...
Dry your tears...
It is time to let you go...

One last kiss(One last kiss)
Before I go(Before I go)
Dry your tears(Dry your tears)
It is time to let you go...

Because days! Come and go!
But my feelings for you are forever
Because days come and go
But my feelings for you are forever

One last kiss(One last kiss)
Before I go(Before I go)
Dry your tears(Dry your tears)
It is time to let you go...

One last kiss...
Before I go...
Dry your tears...
It is time to let you go...

One Last Kiss.

You take the good, you take the bad,
you take them both and there you have
The Facts of Life, the Facts of Life.

There's a time you got to go and show
You're growin' now you know about
The Facts of Life, the Facts of Life.

When the world never seems
to be livin up to your dreams
And suddenly you're finding out
the Facts of Life are all about you, you.

It takes a lot to get 'em right
When you're learning the Facts of Life. (learning the Facts of Life)
Learning the Facts of Life (learning the Facts of Life)
Learning the Facts of Life
