SM was one of my all-time fave Elvis tunes, perhaps only eclipsed by the great "Kentucky Rain".

I liked a lot of what he did including every single one of his ballads but hands down, my favorite has to be Are You Lonesome Tonight. BTW, Kentucky Rain was written by Eddie Rabbitt and Ronnie Milsap was on piano for Presley's version.

As far as I know, Elvis didn't write any of his hits. I grew up an Elvis fan, so much so, that I even like his movies and most of the music from them. Kissin' Cousins gets nominated often as one of the worst movies ever and I still watch it on DVD at least once a year. One Boy, Two Little Girls - now that's music.:)

Elvis! Saw him twice in concert. (Not Vegas.)

His best? Hard to say. I'll give a vote to "American Trilogy" (Dixie/All my Trials/Battle Hymn of the Republic)

My middle daughter is all growed up...She's 19 and has moved out into her own place. :( This one has always made me cry since I was 19, and moving out. I'm now on the flip side. Crazy world.

Letting Go - Suzy Bogguss

She'll take the painting in the hallway,
The one she did in Jr. High
And that old lamp up in the attic,
She'll need some light to study by.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

Mother sits down at the table
So many things she'd like to do
Spend more time out in the garden
Now she can get those books read too.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway.

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

And it's okay
If you had to go away
Oh, just remember the telephones
Well, they're work in both ways
But if I never, ever hear them ring
If nothing else
I'll think the bells inside have finally found you someone else
And that's okay
Cause I'll remember everything you sang

Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
And others just read of
And if you could see me now
Well, then I'm almost finally out of
I'm finally out of
Finally de de de de de de
Well I'm almost finally
Finally out of words

- Jason Mraz "You and I Both"

I loved her first by Heartland

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

"Love Love Love" by Monsters of Men

Well, maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart away
Yeah, maybe I'm a crook for not caring for it
Yeah, maybe I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad person
Well, baby, I know.

And these fingertips
Will never run through your skin
And those bright blue eyes
Can only meet mine across the room filled with people that are less important than you.

All 'cause you love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love you

So I think it's best we both forget before we dwell on it
The way you held me so tight
All through the night
'Til it was near morning

'Cause you love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love you

All 'cause you love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love
You love, love, love
When you know I can't love you

SUNDAY MORNING COMING DOWN

Written by Kris Kristofferson perfromed by John R. Cash

Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.

In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.

My husband is a man of few words (spoken, at any rate!) I heard this on my way into work today & realized how much it fits him...sorry for the sappy post, all.

When You Say Nothing At All - Alison Krauss

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me

This is actually a Keith Whitley song. He was an amazing songwriter/singer that died at an early age. He was married to Lorrie Morgan.

Yep, I know who Keith Whitley/Lorrie Morgan are (were?). I liked his (and hers) music back when I listened to country. Had no idea he had written it; I have only heard her version. Thanks for the info! :)

You call me a dog well that's fair enough. Cause it ain't no use to pretend you're wrong. When you call me out I can't hide anymore. I have no disguise you can't see through. Well you say it's bad luck to have fallen for me. Well what can I say to make it good for you? You wore me out like an old winter coat. Trying to be safe from the cold. But when it's my time, to throw the next stone. I'll call you beautiful if I call you at all. You tell me I'm low, cause I slept on the floor. And out in the woods with the badgers and wolves. You threw me out cause I went digging for gold. And I came home with a handful of coal. But when it's my time, to throw the next stone. I call you beautiful if I call you at all. And when it's my time to call your bluff. I'll call you beautiful or leave it alone. You call me a dog. Well that's fair enough. It doesn't nother me as long as you know. Bad luck will follow you if you keep me on a leash and. You drag me along. (by Chris Cornell)
