Has anyone ever seen the movie Angus? I loved that movie, it had the Sherminator from American Pie.

City of God is such a good movie, in my top 5.

I am Sam?

A little tug of the heart strings, (and I do mean a little) and that's it. Underrated? Nope.

I would say Casino, but I think that it is pretty well received. The acting in that movie was superb.

I think Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning did a great acting job and the subject matter of the movie was original.

Some others that come to mind:
Assault on Precinct 13(original '76)
Alien 3
Feeling Minnesota
Below

Great thread, I had totally forgot about it. Funny looking back at what I wrote--I'm not a big fan of Crash anymore and I thought Primer was just AWFUL. But there are some interesting choices.

As for your new list, Below and Pitch Black are great, although I wonder if Pitch Black would be considered "underrated". Gattaca definitely is probably the best choice you have on there. And Alien 3 is definitely an interesting addition to your list.

Maybe not science fiction, but I'd add a few more off the top of my head:

Unleashed (Jet Li)
The Mist
Mystery, Alaska

As for Alien 3, i just felt that it was setup to fail following the first two films. The 2003 Special Edition of Alien 3 is my true gauge of the film.
Roughly dubbed as a Directors Cut(David Fincher's first film)runs a full 30 minutes longer than the theatrical release. There's an entire middle section cut out of the original release that, while not vital to the film, adds much IMO to the weight of the story. There are other added scenes that are visually pleasing....the ending is also a little better:
When Ripley falls to her molten death, there is no baby alien popping out of her chest which was IMO...overly melodramatic ,cheesey, and unnecessary.
I like dark films....Alien 3 for me was obviously not as good as the first two,but considering the circumstances surrounding the making of this film, and the insane expectations....I thought it was quite good>>the full length version.

The Mist is a great choice, it still to this day remains my favorite short story/novella I ever read.
Thank God Darabont finally got it done, and not some other shmuck of a director. I loved the choice to have virtually no music in it, save for a few scenes. Highly controversial ending...it hit me hard...(I remember leaving the theater feeling like i'd been punched in the stomach)...but it hurt so good;). Very well done film on a low budget.

Outland
The Man With One Red Shoe

Two of my favorites that no one seems to have heard of, hence making them underrated in my book.

I heart Outland. Haven't watched it in years. I wonder if it is still good.
