I am not on his "jock" I am just not someone who has pure unadulterated hatred of the guy--like you.

I've said several times if he fails its on him, he will have nobody to blame but himself. To flat out write the guy off at this point is ridiculous, the guy deserves a fair shot to succeed.

Somers & Urban have both said he has looked good in camp....they've been there everyday I think. Both have said he has been inconsistent for sure but neither has written him off as a lost cause like many around here want to.

The dude isn't a rookie he has had his fair share of chances without succeeding. I'm writing him off from how he has played the previous four years when he has had a chance to play. I'm not convinced he's our guy and I don't think the cards are either I'm dreading the thought of 6-10.

In what world is 2 INTs and under 50% passing better than we've seen from Leinart? Going against 2's no less.

Only in the world that is occupied by Leinart haters.

I am not sure the word "hate" is appropriate for those of us who think Leinart is not the QB of the future. He has done nothing to this point to prove he is a special or even a starting QB in the NFL. This is his last year to either make it or he will be cut from the Cards as they are not going to pay him $11 million. Do we have a QB on this team now who can play at this level? I do not know but we are stupid if we do not as the team will rise and fall on the play of the QB. I certainly never have hated Matt Leinart. I have been disappointed in his play after all the hype he arrived with. I would have drafted him just as we did because on paper and in college he looked really good. We all sort of forgot he was playing with one of the best teams in college football and was surrounded by future 1st round picks. Anyone that does not wish him well is not a real Cardinal fan but so far he has shown very little and we are more than a little worried.

17 starts is a great body of work, because lord knows thats enough to judge a guy. His fair chance included beating out a resurgent Kurt Warner--there are less than 10 QBs in the NFL that outplayed Warner the past 2 seasons that would have beaten Warner out, thats not exactly like getting beaten out by Shaun Hill.

BTW you've been spouting this for awhile--don't act like you just came to this decision about Leinart.

Will Whiz receive any pressure from the GM to play Leinart regardless of his performance?
I hope not but you never know. This clearly is the decision year for Leinart as next year he is due something like 11 mil and that we are not going to pay unless he is the next coming. How many games do you let him play if he is not doing well? At what point will we have seen enough to know he is not the man?

Whiz doesn't work that way. He is not a "Yes Man". He will do what HE thinks is best for the football team.

IMO, the day that Graves tries to call the shots on the field is the day Whiz tenders his resignation...

The Seahawks threw the rest of the league a curve ball earlier this year, trading for the No. 3 guy on the Chargers' quarterback depth chart. Immediately, Charlie Whitehurst was installed as the backup to Matt Hasselbeck and the heir apparent as the starter.

With the regular season only one preseason game away, there's a sense in Seattle that Whitehurst isn't as good as advertised.

The Clemson product drew raves in the preseason opener, generating a passer rating of 107.0 via 14 completions on 22 attempts for 214 yards and two touchdowns, along with an interception.

Since then, he has put up a dreadful 31.0 against the Packers (9-for-20 for 73 yards, with a touchdown and two picks) and 46.6 against the Vikings, with 12 completions in 26 attempts for 138 yards and a pick.

Said coach Pete Carroll, per Percy Allen of the Seattle Times: "He's had a play in there in each game that is really regrettable, you know the turnovers."

Whitehurst's subpar performances come at an interesting time for the team, given that Matt Leinart likely will be available on Saturday -- and given the growing belief that Leinart's former college coach will pounce on Leinart once he's available.

If Whitehurst can't get it done against the Raiders, it could be that Leinart will land at No. 2 on the depth chart, that Whitehurst will return to his familiar No. 3 spot, and that both of them will compete next year to replace Hasselbeck.

If we give up a 3rd for this guy I will :barf:

Just saw the repeat of the Vikes Seahawks game. This guy is even worst than Anderson. And you that the he was Whiz's first choice. Man Whizen STUPID really doesn't Know Jack about the QB position.

Matt is really getting Screwed. Shane Trust Me Whiz is making a big mistake...!!! ERO is what EGO is...???

I still wonder what the coaching staff/front office saw in this guy in that we were bidding for him and willing to give up a pick. 3 games this season...

53%, 5.5 yards per pass attempt, 1 TD & 3 INTs and that so called mobility we were told he had .9 yds per rush (on 9 attempts)....QB rating of 49

He was awful again today against the Bucs.

I'd much rather have 22 yr old John Skelton than 28 yr old Whitehurst.

I am glad a division rival got him. We were extremely lucky.

Just makes the argument more clear....

Our coaching staff has no clue how to evaluate QB's. Furthermore, The entire organization sucks at it.

And I seemed like the only voice in a void of madness that was calling everyone crazy for falling in love with this guy. Man, I'm glad I was right, but I'm even more glad that we didn't trade for him.

There's no way to claim being right or wrong on Whitehurst. The guy has played what, 3 games. Their WR's are nothing special and it's a first year for everyone in that system. It's not like Hasselback was setting the world on fire either. He had a couple of decent games but was pretty much a below-average QB.

I got nine pages into this old thread before it started going around and around in circles, but it's interesting stuff. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I think it's been expected that the Cards are going to draft a QB. If that's the case, I'm sure Whitehurst is already way ahead of any rookie that would be brought in. I've seen people have us taking McCoy, Tebow, Skelton, the kid from WVU, Lefevour, and others. Those are likely 3rd/4th round picks. I'd take Whitehurst over any of them.

LOL.

No, we're talking about a potential starting QB here. Leinart has NOT locked up the starting job, and all indications based on the moves the club is trying to make and what Whiz has said point to the fact that he desperately wants someone who can push Leinart for the the starting job.

Derek Anderson has probably proven he can't start in this league and neither can any of the other FAs out there. Also, unless were using a 1st or 2nd round pick, none of the other QBs have the skill set or pedigree that Whitehurst has. Nor do any of the draftees this year have any experience either.

Whitehurst has a 1st round arm and 1st round size. He can also move around the pocket well. In fact if we're just rating QBs on pure physical attibutes, he blows Leinart away.

Now should we use a 3rd rounder on the guy? Unless the Cards are secretly NOT sold on Leinart, then no. If Whiz thinks that Leinart is a total dud, then I'll have to defer to Whiz's judgement on these matters. I want Leinart to succeed, but you have to remember that we don't see what goes on at the training facility or on the practice field. I'm seriously leaning towards the notion that Whiz thinks that Leinart is going to fail and is hedging his bets.

Turns out that Whis may be able to recognize failures, but struggles a little bit more finding guys who can succeed.

I don't see it, but in Whiz I trust and I know for a fact he's making the call on QB's and not Rod Graves.

More good stuff here.

I think people may be over-valueing a pick in the bottom of the 3rd round. If Whisenhunt thinks this guy can eventually be an NFL starter a low 3rd round pick is nothing. Granted you can get a steal in the bottom of round 3 but you could also get a Dennis Johnson.

Good to know that Cbus has a long history of not valuing mid-round picks for fairly capricious reasons.

I don't need to look back through the thread to know I put a lot of vociferous opposition to Whitehurst on it :)

Yeah but you also bashed me when I said Boldin was going to be better than Bryant Johnson. :pSUHOMER:

Other than Skelton(and we'll see about him) I'd still take Whitehurst over any of those guys. Of course, that's not saying much. I'd even take Alex Smith over that bunch :D.

Not capricious, just factual.
