Not over Arizona, the Cats had a better resume.

The committee says every year they reward teams that play more difficult schedules. ASU has nobody to blame but themselves for their NIT berth. Their OOC schedule is an embarrassment and you simply can't lose to Washington and Cal at home.

Excellent job this year on your difficult schedule...you managed to play quite a few good teams and lost to every one of them. Xavier is far superior to anyone you beat this year. We beat you twice, and had a better conference record. Only an idiot would claim that U of A had a better year than ASU. It's another crap college system that rewards teams for idiotic reason such as reputation and injuries. It's pretty obvious when every analyst says ASU got screwed.

ASU beat the Cats TWICE AND finished ahead of them in the PAC. Strength of schedule is nothing compared to that.

Yeah, but you arent competeing against us for a seed you were competing against Baylor, Nova, ect...

ASU should be in, but UA was not one of the last 4 in. ASU definately should be in over at least Baylor. That Georgia win and the refs cost you guys a birth.

Our SOS was 2 while yours was 82. Your team would be well below .500 with the same SOS.

Xavier is about the same as USC and Wazzu, both of whom we beat away from home. UNLV is another quality road W. Your only quality win away from Tempe this whole year came against us in Tucson. And since UA is such a joke according to you ASU fans that probably shouldn't count as a quality W unless you insist on talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Two of the selection comittee big points are quality scheduling and performance away from home. We have you dead to rights in both of those areas along with multiple other factors. The only one you have on us is the one game margin in the Pac-10 but everything else we have in our favor clearly outweighs that.

Trust me, we don't consider the two wins over U of A on the same level as Xavier, Stanford and USC. I think everybody knows U of A got in on reputation.

So you agree, ASU had no quality wins away from Tempe?

I personally feel ASU deserved to be there, but not at the expense of Arizona. And not surprisingly the committee agreed with me as Arizona was safely in.

No, we got in based on the rpi, sos, top 100 wins, and injuries. If Wise and Bayless are healthy all year and we still finish 19-14 we are either last 4 in or last 4 out.

We were sent to D.C. based on reputation (potential match up with Duke), we were selected based on what I said above. Im not gonna sit here and make fun of ASU, because they got hosed in Staples by the refs and should have been in over Baylor at least.

ASU belonged, Baylor belonged, Arizona did not. Sure, the Wildcats played a difficult schedule, but they lost all but Texas A&M and UNLV of their good opponents. That and the two Sun Devil victories should have put ASU in over Arizona.

I could really care less, the team I care about won't even make the NIT. But the wrong Pac-10 team from Arizona is in the NCAA Tournament.

I am not shocked that ASU is not in based on the system, but I don't think the system is designed to get the top 64 teams playing each other. Therein lies the major problem. I am not as mad at U of A, as I am with South Alabama, Nova, Kentucky. Regardless, head to head, I just can't understand how you could say U of A had a better year than ASU.

But between the two teams, which one do you honestly think has the best chance of making a deep run in the tournament?

The team that beat better top end teams and ended up with a better record. Oh, and the team that beat the other team twice and convincingly on their home floor. Let's see how deep a run U of A makes...

You mean like how we played the same Pac schedule and we finished 9-9 while UofA finished 8-10?

I think they both should have been in but having the team that finished 7th in the conference gets in while the team with the 5th best conference record is left out seems screwed up to say the least.

U of A got a lot of respect based purely on reputation IMO.

Actually it's pretty easy to understand. Arizona's dancing and ASU's in the NIT. Not hard to see who had the better year no matter what happens from here on out.

One game difference and ASU's only good road win was at UofA, and the way you are all talking, that wasn't really a good win to begin with.

If the tournament games were played at Wells Fargo you'd have a real strong case.

Honestly, I don't see much difference between the chances of the two. Either team getting to the sweet 16 would be about as good as they can do.

Excellent point, U of A is better because the tournament committee said so.

IMO, Sun Devil fans shouldnt be pissed @ UofA or the selection committee, they should be mad at the Pac 10 officials. That call in the USC game pretty much cost you any chance of getting in

I'll give this to UofA. They established a precedent for the PAC 10 getting in a team with a losing conference record. Remember how often we heard 9-9 in the PAC 10 had never made the tournament?

Maybe our mediocre teams will continue to get more respect than they deserve in the future -- ala the Big East.

No, because the factors that play into the committee's decisions (which aren't some big secret mind you) have UA as the better team and by a fairly large margin as well. Every coach and athletic director in the country knows how the Tournament field is chosen, maybe you should give them a buzz and tell them to schedule teams with a pulse before trying to bring down some elaborate conspiracy theory.

Arizona shouldn't boast too much. Local media aren't going to be so cordial anymore. I was just sent this short note from a reporter who graduated from UA -- twice, with a bachelor's and a masters:

Famous asterisks in sports record books:

1919 Chicago White Sox, world series champs *
Barry Bonds, 762 home runs *
Arizona, 24 tournament appearances in a row *

Yeah, I'm sure the UA Athletic Department and fans are really worried about what journalistic brilliance like John Gambadoro is going to say tomorrow. I mean, we should simply not accept our Tournament bid so small-timers like Dan Bickley and Greg Hansen can sleep at night.

Aren't UofA fans always the ones that bitch and moan when others come to their section of the boards? Interesting.
