Trust me, ya'll are analyzing minutia. It was a bad snap, and a missed field goal. The lone issue isn't our long-snapper or our punter Butler. The issue is special teams. Big picture items: like all our kickoffs, kick returns, punts, punt returns, and now FG's and long-snapping. Our special teams will lose us more games. I will give Cat some leeway on his kickoffs, because with the new rules, you don't really want it deep in the endzone anyway, it's better if you kick it to about the 5, but only if your kickoff coverage teams can get there, and we can't, because we're awful on ST's.
I agree our ST's are bad right now but the biggest issues this past game were Butler's poor punting and our rookie long snapper blowing it at the end of the game.
Disagree about practicing "botched snap" drills, that's a waste of valuable time and resources. That happens so infrequently. If the special teams were coached in a professional manner in the first place this wouldn't be an issue.
Completely disagree, the resources being "wasted" are the punter, kicker and long snapper. They aren't needed when the O and D are practicing so they could spend time practicing handling bad snaps better.
Disagree about Fitz handling the holding duties, that's just ignorant. In so many ways I don't even...let's call it laziness on my part, I don't have time to explain why this idea is stupid.
Fitz has fantastic hands but I agree I don't want him doing this job.
Butler is fine holding. The dude snatches hikes out of the air while he's punting. He's used to the different rotation as it comes out of the long-snappers hands, which is different than a pass (if you had Fitz back there). It's fine if you don't like him as a punter, but he's got the hands to hold down a kick, and he did a good job on Sunday.
I agree with the above. Buthead actually did a good job getting that bad snap into a kickable position.
The reason this thread is minutia is because we never should have been in that situation. We have a good team. I'm more concerned with why it was even that close. And that's the responsibility of the offense and defense. They didn't do their jobs. That worries me a hell of a lot more than a missed FG on a freak snap.
